1.My dream homeI think my dream home must be very large, at the same time it must be very splendid. Abasketball field in front of my house and a swimming pool is must. There are at least two gardens. One is at front and the other is at back. Around a pond in the center there are many flowers inmy gardens. Then when I'm near my home, I can smell aroma from my flowers. I can plant many kinds of fruit trees .In this way I can eat fruits all the year.In my home, there is a big sitting room. With many sweet snacks on the coffee table where I can drink at any time with my wife .There is a kitchen and a cinema on the ground floor. The kitchen must be modern. That means there is always more than enough foodautomatically. The second floor are bedrooms and studyrooms. In my bedroom, there should be a big double bed, and near the bed, is a big window. So I can see books on the bed and enjoy the scene outside the window. It must be amazing when you wake up and find that there is moonlight now and then. On the other side, enough bedrooms is needed and each room has a new computer and all the beds are comfortable. Sometimes my friends like to come and play with me.All my rooms must be tidy and beautiful. It's my dream home, and I think my dream life will become true sooner or later!.2.What is your favorite way to travel?Traffic is very important for all of us. Different people like different way to travel. I like travel by moto, because i think moto are convenient, and can take me to more place than travel by bike and car.1. I can enjoy more scenery because it has a better contact withnature.Sometimes, the best scenery is often in inaccessible placesby car.2. It’s faster than by bike and can take more things. The most of all,Ifeel so cool when I ride a moto. On the other hand ,I will feel tiredby bike.3. By moto, your can do some exercise,it’s good for our body. And youcan enjoy the fresh air, andI think it’s more freedom than by car.4. More economical than by car.As we all known, the oil is soexpensive that we can’t afford it.5. If there is something wrong with my moto, It is easy to repair it. Soif I travel by car ,I don’t think I can mend it well easily.6. It has a contribute to relieving the traffic pressureSo ,I think the best way to travel is by moto.3.Whatis the biggest problem with transportation in your city?I came from a small town of Hebeiprovince, there are not so many cars like Guangzhou. I think Guangzhou is too big and the there are so many cars in the city. Public transportation is quite convenient in this city. But there are also many problems with the transportation. For example, I think the biggest problem is the traffic jams(交通拥挤) issue. There are too many cars on the road especially the rush time(上下班时间), so if you go somewhere else in the rush time, you will get into a traffic jam, it will waste you too much time. When I want to go to the Tianhe Sports Center, it often take me almost an hours by bus.Thought the subway is very fast and can take you almost anywhere you want to go, but there are also too many passengers on the train and I think th air is not fresh especially When you take the subway on commuter time(上下班时间).Another problem about the transportation is the travelling charges. The charges are much too expensive. In other city like Beijing, the charges are much more cheaper than Guangzhou. The two city are also rich cities. I think if our government control the traffic fee, much more people will chose the public transportations other than private cars. Then , our city will be much more convenient and it is better for the traffic jams and environment.4.How to stay heathy?Heath is very important for everyone of us. Everyone only has one body for our life. If it is not on health, what thing can we do well? But, how can we stay heathy?First, keep healthy mood. Healthy mood is necessary for us. If we stay low mood, we will find that we are easy to get ill and to get high pressure. High pressure sometimes can lead to worse things affected on our body. Second, keep Exercise every day to keep healthy! The mean of life is exercise!I like play basketball, and I will play basketball with my friends When I am not busy,.The third one is to eat healthy food. I think healthy food is also very important for our body. Food preference(偏食) is not good, we should have all kinds of food to take in kinds of nutrients.Eat just enough to get full, and never take more than you need.Forth,I think friends are an important part of one’s health. Many studies show that people with a wide range of social contacts get sick less than those who don't. I always feel better when I am with friends than when I am alone. When I am with my friends, I always laugh. Laughing is also an important part of health. I like to laugh with my friends. If you do that all, I think you can easily stay healthy.parison shopping:Supermarket shopping andOnlineshoppingNow online shopping is developing very fast. Almost five years ago ,I have never hear about the words----“online shopping”. But todaythings is different.I like Shopping online:Shopping online is easy and convenient. We can get what we want just by clicking our mouse in front of our computer. It’s much more cheaper and convenient than Supermarket shopping with the same quality. When you buy something online, often the next day, the delivery man will knock on your doorbell or phone you.So I like this.Online shopping, you will never feel tired, at the same time you can enjoy all kinds of things and beautiful pictures. But you should have at least one account of e-bank. Because sometimes you need pay them online.Shopping online you also can choose to pay for the goods to the courier(快递员) when you get it. It allows us examine the goods and then decide whether to pay for it.Supermarket shopping is also very attractive(有吸引力的). For we can get all what we need from one supermarketWhen we shop on supermarket, we can see the real goods and check it and select the best one. When we are shopping online, we can just see the picture of the goods. We can’t check all details of the goods. So sometimes we’ll regret about what we buy online.6. Crime problems in your city (p91)Although there are some crimes in our city, I think the most serious crime is youth crime.Generally speaking, there are several reasons accounting for this phenomenon.Firstly, some TV shows and video games have a bad influence on juvenile's behavior, which attribute to the violent .Secondly, in modern times, people are so busy that parents don't pay much time on juvenile's education. Parental neglect play a pivotal role in the increase of youth crimes.Because the youth is the hope of our nation, the youth crime's influence is terrible:1.It make us feel unsafe in our daily life ,when we walk along the street, we must look here and there to make sure that we are safe.2.Now, we are busy in our work in day ,so sometimes we want to have a break in night. But unsafe environment makes us afraid of going out of home.3.Youth crime maks a bad influence on our city, it will reduce the income of tourism.Only we solve the problem of youth crime ,will we have a better future. So for a better future of our country, we should pay more attention to the youth crime. And try our best to make a better growth environment for the youth.7. Your career choices (p108-110)One of the most important problems a young man face is the career choices in his life. There are some people, of course, who have dreams in their children time, and they can try their best to make their dreams come true. But to most people, they have to make their choices in many crosses.Choosing an occupation rightly needs some time. Because there are so many things you have to think and judge before you make your choice, and certainly, we can’t ensure that the choice is the one which can lead us to success and make us feel happy in the future. So we need take some special courses to qualify ourselves for a wise choice or even work for a period of time to get some experience.Besides, there is also a shortcut we can take, there are a lot of people we can turn to for advice and help when we’re confusing. Generally, ther e are teachers who are professionally qualified to give us detailed information about job qualifications in school. And there are parents and another people we can refer to at home.8. Movie recommendation (p121)Movie is a great invention of human beings. I like watching movie and have watched lots of movies during my spare time. I want to recommend one of my favorite movies 'Avatar'.The movie is directed by James Cameron, who is famous with the product Titanic. The story is about immigration to planet Pandora, and what happened with local NA'VI. The film is such a wonder that I thought it is well worth watching in one's whole life. There are amazing scenes and beautiful plants and strong animals. 'Avatar' is not just a film about the love story between a'human' and a NA'VI princess, but also a educational file. From the movie we learned that we must live in harmony with the nature. And protect the environment we live. Therefore I do not hesitate to recommend this movie to you. The change was based on the findings of many market studies. These studies had shown that the general response to the new product was good. However, the change of the traditional Coca-cola by New Coke was rejected by the majority of drinkers. In fact, the company had to step back and restart production of the old formula of Coca-cola.The most important reason why New Coke was rejected was the emotional relationship that existed between drinkers and the old soft drink formula. Drinking Coca-cola had become a tradition for many people over its 99 years of existence. The change made by the company was not only in Coke’s formula but also in the traditional values and memories that it represented to the drinkers. ”We had taken away more than the product Coca-cola. We had taken away a little part of them and their past.” The drinkers rejected this “improvement”, because “they believed that Coke stood for traditional val ue….so they felt betrayed when the product changed completely overnight”.Although a lot of research was done by Coca-Cola Company, it didn’t show the depth of drinkers’ emotion for the product. The studies took many forms, but none of the tests wasable to measure the degree of personal and emotional reactions caused by the disappearance of the old, traditional Coca-cola. The weakness of the research was that it was mainly quantitative in form. The result was only numbers that could not show the deep meaning the product had for many people. A more extensive study focusing on the qualitative aspects of the change would perhaps have been able to demonstrate the close relationship existing between drinkers and product.31. Coca-Cola Company changed the formula in 1985 because __________ . [单选题]A. it led the soft drink industry in the marketB. its market studies supported the change in the formula(正确答案)C. it carried out market research for expansionD. it simply felt the need to make the change32. According to the passage, the drinkers rejected New Coke because of __________ . [单选题]A. the late response to the market by Coca-Cola CompanyB. the reproduction of Coca-cola’s old drinks formulaC. a strong dislike by Coca-cola’s regular drinkersD. the emotional relationship between the drinkers and the old soft drink(正确答案)33. The product Coca-cola was believed to stand for __________ . [单选题]A. traditional values and good memories(正确答案)B. traditional customs and happy daysC. past honors and efficient managementD. top quality and wonderful taste34. Which of the following statements is true? [单选题]A. Research by Coca-cola considered emotional factors.B. Coca-Cola did little research before they made the changeC. Research by Coca-cola was quantitative rather than qualitative(正确答案)D. Research by Coca-cola was both quantitative and qualitative35. The author of the article clearly indicates that __________ . [单选题]A. the weakness of the research could have been removedB. Coca-Cola should have measured the quantitative factors more carefullyC. Coca-Cola should have done a more extensive qualitative study(正确答案)D.A slower change of the product might have improved the sales of the company四、阅读理解二Hollywood no longer rules South Korean cinema, which is breaking out all over. Since 1999 filmmakers have been turning out ’s first critically applauded films, and “My Wife Is a Gangster” and “Phone” are the most stunningly good examples. In the way Americans tour , Asians visit to see sites featured in their favorite movies.Korea once looked to for idea, but now the reverse is true. is snapping up remake rights to dozens of Korean films. Madonna’s Maverick Films is remaking the horror film “Phone”. And Dream Works recently bought the rights to another horror film “A Tale of Two Sisters.” To capitalize on all the attention, has moved aggressively to cast itself as the center of ’s film market. The Seoul government and industry leaders are working to rank the Pusan Film Festival as Cannes(嘎纳) East, the festivals where deals get done, a one-stop place where moviemakers can shop for financing, exports, even location. In preparation for the next Pusan Festival this fall, delegations from Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan and all over Asia have been flocking to Seoul to study the Korean film revival. ”We look at Korea with an envious eye,” says one of Hong Kong moviemakers, “Filmmakers and audiences have found a real vibes (i.e. good atmosphere) between them, like in the 1970s and ‘80s inHong Kong.”The Korean film industry, however, is still uphill struggle on the way. The annual receipts of Korean films ($580 million) are gaining on those of Asia’s largest film industry: ($820 million) and ($1.93 billion). Yet, financial markets still tend to see movies as cultural venture, rather than a business. As a moviemaking company in , yet KangJeGyu Films had to team up with another filmmaker and an auto-manufacturer in a new company in order to win a listing on the stock market last year.Despite the restriction, Korean films are capturing a rising share of the local and even Asian markets. The lesson of the Korean revival is that money should be invested both into films and into comprehensive theaters that can sustain a film culture.36. Communication is about conceiving, sending, receiving, and interpreting messages as well as confirming reception of these messages. A failure at any point in this chain can result in ineffective communication.Ineffective communication can be disastrous. There is a famous story of a British Army Commander who sent the message “Send reinforcements, we're going to advance. ” back to his Command Center, through a long chain of subordinates. When the message finally reached the Command Center, it had become “Send three and four-pence, we're going to a dance. ” The reinforcements never arrived. You can demonstrate this same principle, albeit (尽管) on a less dramatic scale, by trying to play Chinese Whispers with more than 20 people. It is highly unlikely the samemessage you started with will be the one you end with.In a business, there are three main types of communication failure. Each has its own indicative signs. The first type is known as allocative failure. This occurs when a firm is not gathering enough intelligence about its market or (most often), the information is not reaching the right points. The firm will not be allocating resources in step with the shifts in demand. If demand is rising but the firm is suffering from allocative communication failure, then stocks will fall and there will be understaffing. If the inverse happens, there will be a surplus of stocks and overstaffing. The second type is executive failure, where communication to trigger specific events/actions is either late, lacking or in error. The symptoms of this are a general loss of direction in the company or departments, a loss of co-ordination and an increase in complaints from customers as things happen late or not at all.The final type is human failure. This occurs when the general culture of a business or the relationships between particular individuals or departments do not foster effective communication. This leads to alienated staff, an increase in staff turnover, an increase in absenteeism and general frustration among staff. Creativity, especially that which takes place across departmental boundaries, is likely to suffer hugely as team synergy slips.41. Confirming reception of the sent messages means _________. [单选题]A. the messages are sent to right receiversB. the messages are correctly understoodC. the messages are correctly understood by right receivers(正确答案)42. In the famous British Army Commander story, which step probably did NOT go wrong in the communication chain? [单选题]A. Conceiving.(正确答案)B. Sending.C. Receiving.43. What is Chinese whispers? [单选题]A. Who whispers in Chinese.B. A game to pass message around in a whisper.(正确答案)C. Chinese people who don't normally talk very loudly.44. Allocative failure does NOT happen when ___________. [单选题]A. the right information goes to the right place(正确答案)B. a company gathers false informationC. the correct information is not received by the right department or person45. According to the passage, which of the following cases does NOT belong to human failure? [单选题]A. Decreasing creativity across departments.B. Inadequate communication between departments.C. Increasing customer complaints.(正确答案)。

You can only form the minds of reasoning animals upon Facts: nothing else will ever be of any service to them. This is the princi ple on which I bring up my own children, and this is the principle on which I bring up these children. Stick to Facts, sir!”The scene was a plain, bare, monotonous vault of a schoolroom, and the speaker’s square forefinger emphasized his observation s by underscoring every sentence with a line on th e schoolmaster’s sleeve. The emphasis was helped by the speaker’s square wall of a forehead, which had his eyebrows for its b ase, while his eyes found commodious cellarage in two dark caves, overshadowed by the wall. The e mphasis was helped by the speaker’s mouth, which was wide, thin, and hard set. The emphasis wa s helped by the speaker’s voice, which was inflexible, dry, and dictatorial. The emphasis was helped by the speaker’s hair, which bristled on the skirts of his bald head, a plantation of firs to keep the wind from its shining surface, all covered with knobs, like the crust of a plum pie, as if the head had scarcely warehouse-room for the hard facts stored inside. The speaker’s obstinate carriage, square coat, square legs, square shoulders—nay, his very neckcloth, trained to take him by the throat with an unaccommodating grasp, like a stubborn fact, as it was—all helped the emphasis.“In this life, we want nothing but Facts, sir; nothing but Facts!”The speaker, and the schoolmaster, and the third grown person present, all backed a little, and swept with their eyes the inclined plane of little vessels then and there arranged in order, ready to have imperial gallons of facts poured into them until they were full to the brim.。

The dances of course have something to do with its deep-rooted Buddhist religion, fighting arts and beautiful clothing. Thai classical dance performances are generally performed by gracious (高雅的) Thai ladies wearing beautiful Thai local costumes. Most resort (旅游胜地) areas and many hotels frequently offer these Thai culture dance shows for foreign visitors.Thai GreetingThe unique Thai gesture of greeting another person, the wai, is especiallyone of the great aspects of Thai culture. The wai is when a person joins both hands to either head or chest level while bending their head slightly towards his hands. This way of greeting is especially done when a younger person greets an older person and it indicates a sign of respect to their elders. Employees would also wai their managers even if the manager would be younger than themselves.BangkokBangkok is the culture center of Thailand and has been the Thai capital since the end of the eighteenth century. Observing Thai culture in Bangkok can be great experience as the combination of modern times and traditions have created a kind of unique atmosphere. Bangkok offers a package of Thai culture which is shown by numerous beautiful Buddhist temples and many examples of modern Thai architecture.Bangkok National MuseumAnother location in Bangkok where one can enjoy and see Thai culture is at the famed Bangkok national museum, which offers tourists an opportunity to view national treasures and unique Thai art pieces with its culture feature dating back as early as the late sixteenth century.1.Thai classical dance is related to ________.A.its living level and educationB.its history and architectural styleC.its customsD.its religious belief2.In Thailand a worker uses the gesture, the wai , to greet________.A.his close friend.B.a young stranger.C.his younger colleagues.D.his young boss.3.What make Thai culture in Bangkok so unique?A.The long history and fine weather of Bangkok.B.The mixture of the modern culture and traditions.C.A number of beautiful Thai Buddhist templesD.Many examples of modern Thai architecture.BA PhD student inMichigandefended her paper while wearing a skirt madeof rejection letters she received while studying. 29-year-old Caitlin Kirby printed out 17 of her rejection letters — from scholarships, academic journals, and conferences — then folded each one into a fan. She connected them in rows, and by the end she designed the item into a skirt and wore it.She said that the idea behind her unique clothing item came out of a desire to normalize rejection and take pride in overcoming it. "The whole process of revisiting those old letters and making that skirt sort of reminded me that you have to apply to a lot of things to succeed," she said. "A natural part of the process is to get rejected along the way."Caitlin's adviser, Julie Libarkin, a professor of earth and environmental science atMichiganStateUniversity, also encourages the acceptance of failure in her students. Libarkin believes it's important for students to get into habit of applying for things, and to get used to the feeling of rejection, so she encourages them to chase after any opportunity that comes their way. If a student doesn't get the grant or the spot in the academic journal, that's okay. They'll still have learned something in the process. As for Caitlin? Her rejections over the years have led to great things: Since her doctorate, she's won a scholarship to do further research on urban agriculture inGermany.Currently, she's a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As for what the future holds? "I'm prepared to receive a few more rejection letters along the way," she joked heartily, "Maybe I'll make a longer skirt."4. What can we learn about Caitlin Kirby's rejection letters?A. She received 17 rejections in total.B. 29 of her rejections were from journals.C. The rejections were connected into a fan.D. She made some rejection letters into a skirt.5. What is Julie Libarkin's attitude towards Caitlin's action?A. Favorable.B. Ambiguous.C. Skeptical.D. Opposed.6. Which of the following words can best describe Catlin?A. Creative and considerate.B. Caring and determined.C. Optimistic and humorous.D. Generous and intelligent.7. Which of the following may Caitlin agree with?A. Hard work pays off.B. Education is the entrance to success.C. Self-respect earns more respect.D. One needs to normalize failures.CNowadays organic food hasbecome a fashion. Organic food sales reached a record of $ 45.2 billion in 2017, making it one of the fastest-growing parts of American agriculture. Some people may buy organic food for these reasons like resource cycling and biodiversity, but most people may choose organic food because they think it's healthier. While a small number of studies have shown relationships between eating organic food and reducing risks of being ill, no studies, up to now, have answered the question whether eating organic food can improve health.According to the United States Department of Agriculture(USDA), organic food does not suggest anything about health. In 20155 Miles McEvoy, then chief of the National Organic Program for the USDA, refused to admit any health benefits of organic food, saying the question has nothing to do with the National Organic Program. Instead, the USDA thinks that organic refers to a production method that increases cycling of resources keeps ecological balance, and protects biodiversity.I'm an environmental health scientist who has spent over 20 years studying pesticides that do harm to human beings. Several years ago, I was part of the study on whether an organic diet can reduce pesticide exposure. This study focused on a group of pesticides which have always been harmful to children's brain development. Wefound that children who ate traditional diets had nine times higher exposure to these pesticides than children who ate organic diets.Last month, I published a small study that suggested a path forward to answering the question whether eating organic food actually improves health. My study got a lot of attention. While the results were novel, they didn't answer the big question. As I toldThe New York Timesin 2003, “What does this really mean for the safety of my kids? But we don't know. Nobody does. It was true then, and it's still true now.”8. Why do most people prefer to buy organic food?A. For its health benefits.B. For biodiversity.C. For its delicious taste.D. For resource cycling.9. What does the USDA suggest about organic food?A. It can improve people's health.B. It is produced in an environment-friendly way.C. It can reduce risks of being ill.D. It has nothing to do with the National Organic Program.10. What can be concluded from the author's study?A. Pesticides don't harm children's brain.B. Traditional diets benefit people's health.C. Organic diets can reduce pesticide exposure.D. The results are meaningful to children's safety.11. What is the best title for the text?A.What Is Organic Food?B. Is Organic Food Healthier?C. How Should We Avoid Pesticides?D. What Are the Benefits of Organic Food?DPaper is an important part of modern life. People use it in school, at work, to make artwork and books, to wrap presents and much more. Trees are the most common material for paper these days.So how do people make paper out of trees today? People first cut trees, load them onto trucks and bring them to a factory. Machines cut open the outer coverings of the trees, and cut the trees into pieces. Those pieces are boiled into a soup. After that, it is hit flat, dried and cut up into sheets of paper. The entire process, from planting a small tree to buying your school notebook, takes a very long time. Just growing the trees takes 10 to 20 years.Making tons of paper from trees can harm the planet. Humans cut down 80, 000 to 160,000 trees around the world every day, and use many of them to make paper. Some of those trees come from tree farms. But people also cut down forests for paper, which means that animals and birds lose their homes.Cutting forests down also contributes to climate change, and paper factories pollute the air. After you throwpaper, it often takes the paper six to nine years to break down. That's why recycling is important. It saves a lot of trees, slows climate change and helps protect endangered animals, birds and all creatures that rely on forests for their homes and food.So if paper isn't good for the environment, why don't people write on something else? The answer: They do. With computers, tablets and cellphones, people use much less paper than in the past. Maybe a day will come when we won't use paper at all — or will save it for very special books and artworks.12. What can we know about making paper out of trees?A. It costs much money.B. It takes a lot of time.C. It is very easy and fast.D. It is dangerous and difficult.13. What is the impact of paper production?A. It promotes the recycling.B. It does harm to the environment.C. It slows down the climate change.D. It protects the animals from losing homes.14. How will we use paper someday in the future according to the text?A. Use it for books only.B. Use the recycled paper.C. Treasure it occasionally.D. Use it for artworks.15. What idea does the author want to express from the text?A. The influence of making paper on environment.B. The wonderful experience of making paper.C. The necessary process of making paper.D. The good reasons for making paper.
ANew events and changes of junior golf competition calendarNew eventsNotah BegayⅢJunior Golf National ChampionshipWhat does a junior golfer aim to pursue? One thing is to be noticed, ideally by a college coach. A remarkable opportunity will be offered by the Notah BegayⅢJunior Golf National Championship to its participants: an event broadcast by Golf Channel. Players aged between eight and 18 can compete in the new event; information about where and when it will be held will be released later.Barbasol Junior ChampionshipBeginning the career in the PGA Tour is something that a junior golfer tends to dream of. The Barbasol Junior Championship, which is scheduled to take place between June 29 and July 2 at Keene Trace Golf Club inNicholasville,Kentucky, will provide such an opportunity. Boys under 19 years old will qualify for this new 54-hole event, and the winner will be awarded a spot at the PGA Tour's Barbasol Championship in July.Changed eventsThunderbird International JuniorThe dates of the AJGA's Thunderbird International Junior have to be changed since the NCAA Championships move to Grayhawk Golf Club inScottsdale,Arizona, for the next three years. Generally, the Thunderbird is played at the end of May. However, this year it is scheduled on different dates for the first time, from April 9 to 12, which means, of course, that the finish date is on Masters Sunday.Gator InvitationalJunior golf intends to prepare for the following college golf. If this is the case, then it is crucial to simulate the higher-level experience as much as possible. Because of that, the Gator Invitational, as a junior boys' event, has made a significant decision on becoming a 54-hole event by adding a round this year. The new version will be played from March 13 to 15 at The Country Club of Jackson inJackson,Mississippi.1. Which event can be watched on TV?A. Notah BegayⅢJunior Golf National Championship.B. Barbasol Junior Championship.C. Thunderbird International Junior.D. Gator Invitational.2. When will the Thunderbird International Junior be played?A. At the end of May.B. From April 9 to 12.C. Between June 29and July 2.D. From March 13 to 15.3. What has been changed about the Gator Invitational?A. The award given to the winnerB. The place where it is played.C. The required age of the players.D. The number of rounds it has.BThe air is thin and we have to rest several times on the shore hike from camp. To our left, snow-covered mountains disappear into clouds that seem almost close enough to touch. On the plain in front of us, we can just make out a herd of graceful animals. This is why we stay here.Tibetan antelopes live mainly on the plains of Tibet. Watching them move slowly across the green grass, I'm struck by their beauty. I'm also reminded of the danger they are in. They are being hunted illegally for their valuable fur.My guide is Zhaxi, a villager from Changtang. He works at the Changtang National Nature Reserve. The reserve is a safe place for the animals and plants of northwestern Tibet. To Zhaxi, protecting the wildlife is a way of life. “We're not trying to save the animals,” he says. “Actually, we're trying to save ourselves.”In the 1980s and 1990s the population of Tibetan antelopes dropped by more than 50 percent. Hunters were shooting antelopes to make money. Their living places were becoming smaller as new roads and railways were built. In order to save Tibetan antelopes, the Chinese government placed them under national protection. Zhaxi and volunteers watched over the antelopes day and night to keep them safe from attacks. Bridges and gates were added to let the antelopes move easily and keep them safe from cars and trains. The measures were effective. The antelope population has recovered and in June 2015, the Tibetan antelope wasremovedfrom the endangered species list. The government, however, does not intend to stop the protection program since the threat to the Tibetan antelope has not yet disappeared. Only when we learn to exist in harmony with nature can we stop being a threat to wildlife and to our planet.4. What can we learn from Zhaxi's words in paragraph 3?A. Protecting the animals can make money.B. Protecting the animals is protecting ourselves.C. He is not fond of protecting the animals.D. The reserve is only safe for wild animals.5. What is mainly talked about in paragraph 4?A. Why hunters hunt Tibetan antelopes.B. Why antelopes' living places changed.C. Why antelopes' number dropped greatly.D. Why the 1980s and the 1990s are unusual.6. What does the underlined word “removed” in the last paragraph probably mean?A. Deleted.B. Changed.C. Migrated.D. Recognized.7. What might be the future condition of Tibetan antelopes according to the last paragraph?A. They will be over-populated.B. They will be a threat to man and other wildlife.C. They will be on the endangered species list again.D. They will be in harmony with nature and humans.C“They’re harming your brain.” “They’re ruining your eyes.” “They’re turning you into a violent person.” The words said publicly against video games are so common, but are these worries founded on actual science? Countless studies have offered different opinions on whether video games are bad for you. We’ve rounded up the most notable reports and studies below, so you can weigh up the evidence for yourself. In 2013,psychologist(心理学家) Simone Kuhn studied the influences of spending long hours on video games on the brains of young adults and found that several areas became bigger than before. These areas are connected with highercognitive functions(认知功能), memory formation andfinemotor(精细运动) function.Last year, psychologists said that video game players who favour violent games are more likely to be violent when offline. Dr. Mark Appelbaum of the American Psychological Association said that there was a relation between violent video game use and increases in violent behaviour.Dr. Daphne Bavelier is an expert in the field of Brain & Cognitive Sciences. Bavelier presented the audience with a colour-word test, where non-gamers are easily puzzled by the test, and those who spend long periods playing on their computers are more likely to pass the test with flying colours.“Actually, those video game players have many other advantages in terms of attention,” said Bavelier, “and one part of attention which is also improved for the better is our ability to follow the movements of objects.”“So, in a sense, when we think about the influence of video games on the brain, it’s very similar to the influence of wine on the health. There are some very poor uses of wine. There are some very poor uses of video games. But when drunk in reasonable amounts, and at the right age, wine can be very good for health,” saidBavelier.8. What can be learned from Simone Kuhn’s study?A. Video games make you happier.B. Video games make your brain grow.C. Video games play a key role in memory.D. Video games teach you how to learn fast.9. What was Dr. Mark Appelbaum’s attitude towards video games?A. He was against them.B. He was hopeful of them.C.He was in favour of them.D. He was uncertain about them.10. Which of the following may Dr. Daphne Bavelier agree with?A. Video games fix attention problems.B. Video games make kids do well in exams.C. Video games encourage violent behaviour.D. Video games help increase colour knowledge.11. Why are the uses of wine mentioned in the last paragraph?A. To remind people to avoid video games.B. To show the disadvantages of video games.C. To help people learn more about video games.D.To ask people to make good use of video games.DDengue is a very painful illness spread by mosquitoes. In severe cases, dengue can even be deadly. Dengue is a serious disease affecting people in around 120 countries. It can cause high fevers, headaches, and severe pain. It’s caused by a virus spread by bites from mosquitoes. Therefore, dengue is more common in warm areas. Every year, roughly 390 million people get dengue, and as many as 25,000 die from it.Now scientists seem to have found a way to protect humans from dengue by first protecting mosquitoes. Dengue fever is caused by a virus. Though it may seem strange to think of it this way, the mosquitoes that spread the dengue virus are also infected with it. But the virus doesn’t seem to hurt the mosquitoes.Wolbachia is a kind of bacteria commonly found in many insects. In some insects, Wolbachia can keep some viruses fromduplicatingthemselves, which is how viruses grow inside a body. Wolbachia isn’t naturally found in mosquitoes. But by infecting these mosquitoes with Wolbachia, scientists can keep the mosquitoes from catchingthe dengue virus. Even better, the young mosquitoes coming from the eggs of the infected mosquitoes also carry Wolbachia.Researchers working with the World Mosquito Program (WMP) ran a 27-month study in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. They split a 10-square-mile area up into 24 smaller areas. In half of the areas, the scientists did nothing. In the other half, they set out containers of eggs from mosquitoes that had Wolbachia. They did this every two weeks for just 4 to 6 months.Ten months later, 80% of the mosquitoes in the treated areas carried Wolbachia. The researchers report the number of dengue cases in the treated areas was reduced by 77% and that the number of people needing hospital care for dengue dropped by 86%.Because the results of the experiment were so good, the WHO has placed Wolbachia-infected mosquito eggs in all parts of Yogyakarta and surrounding areas. The WHO says that within a year, their efforts will protect 2.5 million people against dengue and that their efforts will be turned into a program that can be repeated worldwide.12. What kind of disease is dengue?A. It is likely to cause death.B. It causes no pain but fevers.C. It happens less often in hot areas.D. It hurts both people and mosquitoes.13. The underlined word “duplicating” in paragraph 3 most probably means “________”.A. worsening the harm ofB. expanding the size ofC. increasing forces ofD. making copies of14. What can be inferred about the method from the figures listed in paragraph 5?A. Its wide use.B. Its effectiveness.C. Its complexity.D.Its easy operation.15. What’s the WHO’s attitude towards the method?A. Ambiguous.B. Positive.C. Tolerant.D. Skeptical.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。
