Title: Navigating the Risks of AI: Strategies for Mitigation and Safe AdoptionIn the rapidly advancing era of technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force, reshaping industries, enhancing efficiencies, and fostering innovation. However, like any groundbreaking technology, AI also presents a myriad of risks that must be carefully navigated to ensure its safe and ethical adoption. This essay explores strategies for mitigating the risks associated with AI, focusing on transparency, regulation, ethical guidelines, education, and continuous monitoring.1. Enhancing TransparencyOne of the fundamental challenges in managing AI risks lies in the opacity of many AI systems. The complex algorithms and machine learning processes often make it difficult for non-experts to understand how decisions are made. Enhancing transparency by explaining the logic behind AI decisions can help mitigate this risk. This can be achieved through the development of explainable AI (XAI) techniques, which make AI models more comprehensible to humans. Additionally, requiring AI developers to disclose key information about their systems, such as the data sources, biases, and limitations, can increase public trust and enable better oversight.2. Implementing Effective RegulationAs AI becomes increasingly integrated into our lives, robust regulatory frameworks are essential to ensure its responsible use. Governments and international organizations should collaborate to develop comprehensive regulations that address the unique challenges posed by AI. These regulations should cover areas such as data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the ethical use of AI in various sectors. By establishing clear guidelines and enforcing them consistently, we can mitigate the risks of misuse and ensure that AI benefits society as a whole.3. Adhering to Ethical GuidelinesIn addition to regulation, ethical guidelines play a crucial role in guiding the development and deployment of AI. Organizations and individuals working with AI should adopt a strong ethical code that prioritizes human values and rights. This includes ensuring that AI systems are designed to be fair, unbiased, and respectful of privacy. Adhering to ethical guidelines can help prevent the development of harmful AI applications and foster a culture of responsible innovation.4. Promoting Education and AwarenessRaising awareness about the risks and benefits of AI is essential for building a more informed and engaged public. Educational programs and initiatives should bedeveloped to teach people about the basics of AI, its potential impact on society, and how to identify and mitigate risks. By empowering individuals with knowledge and tools, we can foster a more responsible and critical approach to AI adoption.5. Continuously Monitoring and EvaluatingAI is a rapidly evolving field, and new risks can emerge at any time. To stay ahead of these risks, it is crucial to continuously monitor and evaluate AI systems. This includes regularly assessing their performance, identifying potential biases or vulnerabilities, and taking corrective actions as needed. By maintaining a proactive and vigilant approach, we can minimize the harm caused by AI and ensure its continued safe and ethical use.In conclusion, navigating the risks of AI requires a multifaceted approach that encompasses transparency, regulation, ethical guidelines, education, and continuous monitoring. By adopting these strategies, we can harness the immense potential of AI while mitigating the risks it poses to society. As we move forward in this exciting new era, it is essential that we remain vigilant and committed to responsible innovation.。
Ⅰ. Supply the missing paragraph.(20 points)The following passage is incomplete with one paragraph missing. Study the passage carefully and write the missing paragraph in about 100 words. Make sure that your tone and diction are in unity with the passage provided.Chat Rooms in the Smartphone EraChat rooms have become an integral aspect of people's lives in the smartphone era. People share news, thoughts, and feelings through lively phone messages. It is no exaggeration to say that every smartphone user belongs to at least one group chat room. Their chat room buddies are mostly family, friends,or people from work. The majority enjoy the casual chats while some occasionally complain about the constant messages from the workplace. Admitedy, chat rooms strengthen family ties and friendships thoughwork-related chat rooms may bother some who care much about their after-work leisure. To start with, smartphone chat rooms can help narrow emotional distance between family members who live together under the same roof. Words like“thank you” and “sorry”that can be heard frequently among colleagues and strangers are less often spoken among family members. Thanks to chat rooms, these emotions can now be shared through a wide selection of expressive emoticons(表情符号). Specifically, chat rooms can serve as a helpful connection between parents and children, who may otherwise be out of touch with each other most of the time. Listening to their children and being aware of even little things going on in their lives through family chat rooms contribute to better parenting._______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Are group chat rooms just as beneficial in the workplace? The answer is no.The chief reason is that employees have to be available 24/7. While a chat room keeps them informed, employees often feel harassed by messages from the boss, especially after work hours. For example, the boss may check an employee's work, giving more instructions, even long after office hours. If the employee does not reply to the message,it would be the same thing as ignoring the boss. Worse still, employees are not free to simply leave the chat room. They are afraid if they are not part of that online space, they will be left out of real-life interaction with their colleagues. That is why some people view the chat room as prison in the workplace. In a word, while people appreciate the benefits of connecting and communicating with family members, friends and workmates, they may also suffer from the harassments of work messages in their leisure time. Yet,like it or not, chat rooms are here to stay.Ⅱ. Write an outline.(20 points)Read the following passage carefully and compose a “Topic Outline” for it.Deadline TraumaKelly's last day at high school was full of nostalgic sentimentalities.“All my friendswere posting,‘I'm going to miss you!Have fun at Queen's or Western or wherever!’”Though her school had reminded her of the university applicaton deadline in January,Kelly hesitated between arts and medicine as she was enthuIsiastic about both. Thedeadline came and went, but she applied for neither. Kelly is not alone;many high school graduates delay their applications.Every year around this time, prospective university students slave over applications to their preferred programs and schools. In Ontario, almost 90,000 bombard the Ontario University Applications Centre with a total of 480,000 applications by the end of January. A few keeners submit early, the majority apply in the few days before the deadline, and the rest wait until the last minute. It can be tempting to fall into stereotypes about teens as irresponsible, unfocused and immature, but it's not so simple. “Procrastination(拖延)is never just laziness, even if it sometimes looks that way,”says a guidance counselor who has spent 18 years at high schools. “Most kids are somewhere in the middle, but about 15 percent of kids have a plan and are ready—they don't eveb need talking to. About a quarter need to be reminded and pestered and re-pestered.”Hardcore procrastinators usually fall into two camps, the counselor says. Some students just aren't ready.“Those students often take a year or two to explore the work world and decide what they're really looking for.” Others have so many choices that they have a hard time choosing a program. Used to being excellent, they deeply fear missteps. They're often operating under the myth that if they choose and change their mind, that's a failure.Kelly was a bit of both. For a well-rounded student with good grades, the options were daunting. She thought the choice would determine her future job prospect and even her life. Scared and overwhelmed, she simply gave up the choice. To helpreduce the stress, parents should resist the urge to monitor the application process. As education costs climb higher, parents have a larger stake in their kids' success, but“too much parental involvement gets problematic,”warns a senior registrar.“We want students tow do the soul searching and make decisions themselves.”Still, students shouldn't panic if they miss a deadline. They might just pick up the telephone, like Kelly did in August when she decided she was ready for university and wanted to study at Ryerson. The admissions officers worked some magic and found her a spot.“Despite all the procrastination,”says a Ryerson registrar,“it's never too late to check if it's really too late.”Mest students may find university application stressful or traumatic;therefore,it is normal for students to procrastinate. Behind their procrastination could be laziness or indecision out of a scare for future uncertainty. Since missteps cannot be avoided,it iswell-advised for university applicants to break the myth of failure.Ⅲ. Compose an essay.(60 points)Food waste is a common problem today. Many people order more food than they can consume and throw away food that is no longer good to eat.Write a 300-word essay discussing the causes and offering the solutions.2021年10月高等教育自学考试全国统一命题考试英语写作试题答案及评分参考(课程代码00603)Ⅰ. Supply the missing paragraph.(20 points)Chat rooms also connect friends who live far apart. In a recent survey,an interviewee said that she chatted with her friends almost every day thanks to the quicker, easier, and simpler way of communication. She admitted that she could write“I miss you”and“I love you”more often, whereas these words did not come so easily to her on the phone. In the group chat rooms, old schoolmates and childhood pals having migrated to other countries are blessed with a place online for an instant reunion. Friends can communicate freely without much limitation of time and space.(99 words)【评分参考】1.本部分满分20分,按四个档次给分,其中12分为及格分,需要慎重把握。

反对战争的英语作文Opposing War。
War is a destructive and devastating force that brings about immense suffering, loss of life, and destruction. Itis a manifestation of human failure to resolve conflicts through peaceful means. As such, I firmly believe that war should be opposed at all costs. In this essay, I will explore the reasons why war is detrimental to society and why it is crucial to seek alternative solutions toconflicts.First and foremost, war leads to the loss of countless lives. Every war results in the deaths of soldiers and civilians, leaving behind grieving families and communities. The toll of war extends beyond the battlefield, as it often leads to long-term physical and psychological trauma for those who survive. The human cost of war is immeasurable, and it is a tragedy that should be avoided at all costs.Additionally, war causes widespread destruction and displacement. Infrastructure, homes, and livelihoods are destroyed, leaving communities in ruins. The aftermath of war often leads to a refugee crisis, as people are forced to flee their homes in search of safety and security. The impact of war on the environment is also significant, as it can lead to pollution, deforestation, and loss of biodiversity. The long-term consequences of war on the environment are devastating and can have far-reaching effects for future generations.Furthermore, war perpetuates a cycle of violence and retaliation. It breeds hatred and resentment, making it difficult to achieve lasting peace and reconciliation. The animosity and distrust that result from war can hinder efforts to build a more harmonious and cooperative global community. Instead of fostering understanding and cooperation, war only serves to deepen divisions and perpetuate conflict. In light of these reasons, it is imperative that we seek alternative solutions to conflicts. Diplomacy, dialogue, and negotiation are essential tools for resolving disputes and preventing the escalation of violence. By engaging in peaceful dialogue and finding common ground, it is possible to address grievances and work towards sustainable solutions. Furthermore, investing in conflict prevention and peacebuilding efforts can help to addressthe root causes of conflict and build a more just and equitable world. In conclusion, war is a destructive force that brings about immense suffering and loss. It is essential that we oppose war and work towards peaceful solutions to conflicts. By prioritizing diplomacy, dialogue, and peacebuilding, we can create a more peaceful and just world for future generations. It is only through collective efforts and a commitment to non-violence that we can hope to build aworld free from the scourge of war.。

战争会给国家和人民带来什么英语作文What Does War Bring to a Country and Its People?War is a really big deal that happens when different countries or groups of people cannot agree and decide to fight each other with weapons and armies. I've learned about many wars in history class, like World War I, World War II, the American Civil War, and more. While I know wars are meant to help one side win over the other, they often lead to lots of bad things happening too.The first major impact of war is destruction. When armies fight each other, they use big bombs, tanks, guns, and other weapons that can badly damage buildings, roads, farms, forests and more. I saw pictures in my history book of cities in Europe and Japan that were practically demolished after World War II from all the bombing raids. Even if a city isn't totally flattened, structures like schools, hospitals, bridges and homes often get hit hard. All this destruction costs a lot of money to repair and rebuild later.Another sad outcome of war is lives getting lost. Soldiers fight on the battlefields and many get killed by the enemy's attacks. But innocent civilians also tragically die, whether frombeing caught in the crossfire, diseases spreading through damaged cities with no medicine, or not having access to food and clean water. After major wars, there are always huge numbers of people who passed away, leaving behind grieving families and friends. No one should have to go through that pain and heartbreak if it can be avoided.Wars also force many people to flee from their homes and become refugees in other, safer countries. If your city or town is getting bombed and buildings are crumbling, you would definitely want to escape somewhere else! However, refugee camps are often very crowded and it's tough being displaced with nowhere permanent to live and no belongings except what you could carry. Kids' educations get interrupted too when they have to abruptly move away. It's an incredibly difficult situation.Along with all the physical damage, wars bring lots of emotional trauma too, especially for soldiers who witness terrible violence and nightmares on the battlefield. But even civilians back home get traumatized by loud air raid sirens, hiding in shelters, or having their communities torn apart. This emotional pain can stick with people for years and years after fighting ends through conditions like PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). No one should have to live in constant fear and terror.Economically, wars also do a lot of damage by draining a country's money and resources. All that funding has to go towards manufacturing weapons, vehicles, ammunition, supplies for the military instead of towards things that could help society like schools, roads, hospitals, and businesses. If the war goes on long enough, economies can collapse from being so drained. After wars end, it then takes a very long time and incredible money to rebuild cities and get economies working again. On the environment front, wars represent one of the biggest human-caused catastrophes for plant and animal life. Bombs and chemicals released during warfare poison the air, land and water for many miles around. Big fires and explosions can devastate woodland forests that took centuries to grow. If dangerous chemicals leak, it makes areas unsafe for any living thing. Lots of animals get hurt or killed either directly from the attacks or by losing their natural homes and food sources to the destruction.I could probably go on, but those are some of the biggest negative impacts wars wage on countries and their people based on what I've learned so far. While I know wars aim to help one side gain power over the other through fighting, they really seem to leave incredible paths of devastation in their wake that make everyone involved suffer tremendously. Massive amounts ofhomes, businesses, lives, money, and environmental treasures get lost for often decades after the violence finally stops. In my opinion, wars might be necessary sometimes if a country absolutely has to defend itself from being invaded and conquered by hostile forces. But it seems like such an awful last resort that every other solution like diplomacy and negotiating should get tried first before sending people into combat. Maybe if world leaders really put in more effort to understand each other's perspectives and make compromises, wars could potentially get avoided all together. That's just what I think though as a kid who has learned how tragic these huge conflicts tend to turn out.Of course, I don't have the life experience of actually going through a war myself. But from what I've studied in books and seen in documentaries, war looks like one of the most nightmarish, destructive things humans can put ourselves and our planet through. Sure, there are momentary victories on battlefields, but the larger devastation seems to outweigh any rewards in the long run. Death, trauma, displacement, economic collapse, environmental ruin - I really hope humanity can find ways to resolve disagreements without such catastrophic harm in the future.I just want to live in a world of peace where people take care of each other instead of fighting. Where countries put their money towards teachers, doctors, scientists and programs that help society grow. Where conflicts get solved with words rather than weapons so no more innocent lives get lost. Perhaps that's an idealistic dream for now, but it's the world I'll aim to work towards as I get older. War might sometimes seem unavoidable, but I believe if we learn from the past, we can strive to make a future without such senseless destruction.。
悲伤逆流成河英语名Sadness, a powerful emotion that can overwhelm the human spirit, is often described as a river. The analogy is apt, for just as a river flows relentlessly, sadness can engulf us, sweeping us away in its current. It is a force that knows no boundaries, transcending cultures, ages, and backgrounds. The experience of sadness is universal, yet it manifests itself in unique ways for each individual. For some, it may be a gentle stream, a quiet melancholy that lingers in the background, while for others, it is a raging torrent, crashing against the shores of their lives with devastating intensity.Sadness can arise from a myriad of sources – the loss of a loved one, the end of a cherished relationship, the disappointment of unfulfilled dreams, or the weight of unresolved trauma. It can be a response to the harsh realities of the world, a reaction to the pain and injustice that permeate our existence. Regardless of its origin, sadness has the power to transform our perspective, coloring our perceptions and shaping our experiences. As the river of sadness flows, it carves deep channels in our psyche, leaving indelible marks on our hearts and minds. It can erode our sense of self, undermining our confidence and leaving us feeling adrift in a sea of emotion. The weight of sadness can be crushing, making it difficult to find the strength to carry on.Yet, even in the darkest moments, the river of sadness can also serve as a conduit for growth and transformation. It is within the depths of our sorrow that we often find the courage to confront our demons, to face the painful truths that we have long avoided. It is in the midst of this emotional turmoil that we can discover the resilience and fortitude that lie within us, waiting to be unleashed. The process of navigating the river of sadness is often a solitary one, a journey that we must undertake alone. However, it is during these times that the support and understanding of others can be most invaluable. The presence of loved ones, the empathy of friends, and the guidance of professionals can provide the lifelines we need to keep afloat, to find our way through the turbulent waters. As we traverse the river of sadness, it is important to remember that it is not a permanent state of being. The waters may rise and fall, the current may quicken or slow, but the river itself will not last forever. With time, patience, and the right coping mechanisms, the sadnesscan subside, giving way to a newfound sense of hope and healing. In the aftermath of the river's passage, we may find ourselves changed, transformed by the experience. The scars of our sadness may remain, but they can serve as reminders of our resilience, our ability to endure and emerge stronger. The lessons we learn, the insights we gain, can become the foundation upon which we build a more meaningful and fulfilling life.Ultimately, the river of sadness is a testament to the human experience, a reminder that we are all connected by the shared experience of emotion. It is a powerful force that can both overwhelm and uplift us, depending on how we choose to navigate its currents. By embracing the depth of our sadness, by allowing ourselves to feel its weight and its ebb and flow, we can unlock the transformative potential that lies within it, and emerge from its depths with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper appreciation for the fragility and beauty of life.。
不要做冒险运动英语作文Adventure sports can be exhilarating and often attract thrill-seekers looking to push their boundaries. However, participating in these activities carries inherent risksthat may not be worth the adrenaline rush. This essay discusses why people should avoid engaging in risky adventure sports, focusing on safety, health, and theimpact on loved ones.To begin with, safety is a significant concern when it comes to adventure sports. Whether it's skydiving, rock climbing, or bungee jumping, the potential for accidents is ever-present. Equipment failures, human errors, or environmental factors can lead to severe injuries or even fatalities. These risks are often underplayed by those who promote adventure sports, but the statistics tell adifferent story. According to a report by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, extreme sports injuries havebeen on the rise, with thousands of cases reported annually. These numbers suggest that engaging in such activities isnot just dangerous; it's potentially life-threatening.Moreover, the impact on physical health can be detrimental. Even when participants survive accidents, the injuries sustained can lead to long-term health issues. Broken bones, spinal injuries, and brain trauma are common outcomes of adventure sports mishaps. The recovery process can be lengthy and costly, often requiring extensive medical care and rehabilitation. Furthermore, the physical limitations caused by such injuries can affect one'squality of life, restricting mobility and causing chronic pain. It's essential to consider whether the fleeting excitement of an adventure sport is worth a lifetime of physical challenges. In addition to physical health, mental health is also at risk. The stress and trauma from experiencing or witnessing a severe accident can lead to psychological issues like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, or depression. These mental health issues can have a profound impact on one's ability to work, maintain relationships, and lead a fulfilling life. It's notuncommon for individuals who survive traumatic events to struggle with these challenges for years, if not decades.Beyond personal health and safety, adventure sports can significantly affect loved ones. The anxiety and fear experienced by family and friends while their loved one is engaged in risky activities can be overwhelming. In the event of an accident, the emotional toll on those close to the participant can be devastating. The uncertainty of not knowing whether a loved one will return safely from an adventure sport can create constant stress and worry. This impact on family and friends is often overlooked by those who pursue these activities, but it is a critical factor to consider.Furthermore, the financial costs associated with adventure sports accidents can be substantial. Medical bills, rehabilitation costs, and lost income due to injury-related work absences can create a significant financial burden. Insurance may not always cover the full extent of these expenses, leaving families to shoulder the costs. This financial strain can add to the stress experienced byloved ones and create additional challenges for those recovering from injuries. Finally, there are alternative ways to experience excitement and adventure without putting oneself at significant risk. Activities like hiking, cycling, and camping offer opportunities to explore nature and challenge oneself without the same level of danger. These pursuits can be equally fulfilling and provide a sense of accomplishment without the inherent risks associated with adventure sports. In conclusion, while adventure sports may seem enticing due to the thrill and adrenaline rush they offer, the risks far outweigh the benefits. The potential for severe injury, long-term health issues, mental health challenges, and the impact on loved ones make it clear that these activities should be avoided. There are safer ways to seek adventure and excitement that do not carry such high stakes. By choosing safer pursuits, individuals can protect their health, well-being, and the peace of mind of their loved ones.。

Programming Trauma: Can it be avoided?M. Huggard The difficulty in the transition of students into degree courses in Computer Science is a major contributor to non-completion. The nature of a computer science degree programme is such that there is very little continuity between subjects studied during the secondary education senior cycle and those encountered during the first year in university. Courses in areas such as computer programming and computer networking require a style of logical thinking that many students have not experienced prior university entry. Moreover, many students are experiencing university life for the first time and haven't developed an appropriate sense of their own responsibility for, or owernership of, their learning. This is a complex and multi-dimensional problem and consequently there is no single solution. However, most students experiencing difficulties during their first year at university cite the challenges encountered while learning to programme as one of the major causes of their trauma. Psychological studies of programming date back over 30 years, but appear to have had little impact on the culture of learning in a programming class, with many students having little or no confidence in their programming abilities. Hence one of the grand challenges in computing education is to design an effective learning environment which results in a significant improvement in students' attitude to and attainment in programming.A negative attitude toward programming appears to be firmly established in many students' minds, even amongst those who have elected to take a computing degree course. In a recent survey of first year undergraduates, over half expressed anxiety about learning to programme before their university studies commenced. The factors that cause students to become disaffected with programming courses need to be clearly established and, where possible, early intervention taken. In particular, student programmers need to be actively encouraged to take an intrinsic pleasure in learning and hence become self-motivating, independent problem solvers. Some studies hypothesise that students who find programming difficult are those for whom programming is difficult. Proponents argue that “there is nothing inherently difficult in the subject; it is simply that some students have no aptitude” [1]. Various tests for determining a student’s aptitude for programming exist, but it has proven difficult to provide evidence for their effectiveness [2]. More recent work in this field has also proved inconclusive: In [3] it is suggested that a relationship exists between programming skills and experience in mathematics. While a study at the University of Leeds [4] which streamed students based on the results of an aptitude test, concluded that no relationship existed between the final result in programming and the measured aptitude. Other work has shown that demographic factors may not be used as predictors of success in programming [5].Winslow [6] gives an excellent overview of psychological studies into computer programming since the 1970s. He notes that “little of these results have been incorporated into curricular or text books” and details how these results can affect course design. He concludes that, by the end of a four year degree program, it should be possible for students to be competent computer programmers, capable of consciously choosing an organized plan to achieve a desired goal.“The key to reaching this level is practice, practice, practice – starting withsimple facts and problems and working up to more and more complicatedfacts, strategies and problems.”(Winslow, 1996, p21)Research by Boud [7] into university teachers views of assessment found that many had encountered very negative experiences of being assessed.“This hurt ... caused them to loose confidence, it dented their self-esteemand led them never to have anything to do with some subjects ever again.”(Boud, 1995, p35) He argues that if successful students (those who later become university teachers) have such a traumatic experience, then we can only surmise that assessment must have had an even more negative impact on the less academically able students. Hence assessment should be at the heart of any effective teaching and learning strategy for computer programming.Collaborative learning has proved highly successful in programming courses, with many students benefiting from interaction with their peers. However, the educator is then faced with the difficulty of trying to effectively evaluate and assess an individual's programming ability based on the outcomes of a collaborative project. The phenomenon of less able students hiding behind their more competent peers is common in programming courses. Recent research in this area includes that of Chamillard and Braun [8] which successfully combined a number of evaluation techniques to assess programming ability. In particular, Chamillard and Joiner [9] explored the use of lab practica to assess individual programming ability. Moreover, even when assessed individually, it may be argued that students who obtain a passing grade of between 40% and 50% in their first year programming examinations experience major difficulties with programming in the later years of their degree programme. To conclude, computer programming presents educators with many challenges; in particular how do we:• overcome the negative attitudes many students have towards programming?• establish student aptitude for programming?• incorporate the results of psychological studies into our curricula and textbooks?• encourage students to practice programming?• establish assessement methods that assess individual programming competency effectively?• prevent students “hiding” behind their more able peers? While educational researchers have sought to address individual issues, a more coherent approach is needed if we are to radically alter the learning environment in which programming is taught and assessed.References[1] Jenkins, T., “On the Difficulty of Learning to Program”, in Proc. 3rd LTSN for Information and Computer Science Conference, Loughborough, UK, pp. 65-71, 2002.[2] Mazlack, L.
