She'd wake up early, turn on her laptop and chat on Internet dating sites and instant-messaging programs—leaving her bed for only brief intervals. Her household bills piled up, along with the dishes and dirty laundry, but it took near-constant complaints from her four daughters before she realized she had a problem."I was starting to feel like my whole world was falling apart—kind of slipping into a depression," said Carla. "I knew that if I didn't get off the dating sites, I'd just keep going," detaching (使脱离) herself further from the outside world.Toebe's conclusion: She felt like she was "addicted" to the Internet. She's not alone.Concern about excessive Internet use isn't new. As far back as 1995, articles in medical journals and the establishment of a Pennsylvania treatment center for overusers generated interest in the subject. There's still no consensus on how much time online constitutes too much or whether addiction is possible. But as reliance on the Web grows, there are signs that the question is getting more serious attention: Last month, a study published in CNS Spectrums claimed to be the first large-scale look at excessive Internet use. The American Psychiatric Association may consider listing Internet addiction in the next edition of its diagnostic manual. And scores of online discussion boards have popped up on which people discuss negative experiences tied to too much time on the Web."There's no question that there are people who are seriously in trouble because they're overdoing their Internet involvement," said psychiatrist (精神科医生) Ivan Goldberg. Goldberg calls the problem a disorder rather than a true addiction.Jonathan Bishop, a researcher in Wales specializing in online communities, is more skeptical. "The Internet is an environment," he said. "You can't be addicted to the environment." Bishop describes the problem as simply a matter of priorities, which can be solved by encouraging people to prioritize other life goals and plans in place of time spent online. The new CNS Spectrums study was based on results of a nationwide telephone survey of more than 2,500 adults. Like the 2005 survey, this one was conducted by Stanford University researchers. About 6% of respondents reported that "their relationships suffered because of excessive Internet use." About 9% attempted to conceal "nonessential Internet use," and nearly 4%reported feeling "preoccupied by the Internet when offline."About 8% said they used the Internet as a way to escape problems, and almost 14% reported they "found it hard to stay away from the Internet for several days at a time.""The Internet problem is still in its infancy," said Elias Aboujaoude, a Stanford professor. No single online activity is to blame for excessive use, he said. "They're online in chat rooms, checking e-mail or writing blogs. [The problem is] not limited to porn (色情) or gambling" websites.Excessive Internet use should be defined not by the number of hours spent online but "in terms of losses," said Maressa Orzack, a Harvard University professor. "If it's a loss [where] you're not getting to work, and family relationships are breaking down as a result, then it's too much."Since the early 1990s, several clinics have been established in the U.S. to treat heavy Internet users. They include the Center for Internet Addiction Recovery and the Center for Internet Behavior. The website for Orzack's center lists the following among the psychological symptoms of computer addiction:·Having a sense of well-being (幸福) or excitement while at the computer.·Longing for more and more time at the computer.·Neglect of family and friends.·Feeling empty, depressed or irritable when not at the computer.·Lying to employers and family about activities.·Inability to stop the activity.·Problems with school or job.Physical symptoms listed include dry eyes, backaches, skipping meals, poor personal hygiene (卫生) and sleep disturbances.People who struggle with excessive Internet use may be depressed or have other mood disorders, Orzack said. When she discusses Internet habits with her patients, they often report that being online offers a "sense of belonging, an escape, excitement [and] fun," she said. "Some people say relief... because they find themselves so relaxed."Some parts of the Internet seem to draw people in more than others. Internet gamers spend countless hours competing in games against people from all over the world. One such game, called World of Warcraft, is cited on many sites by posters complaining of a "gaming addiction."Andrew Heidrich, an education network administrator from Sacramento, plays World of Warcraft for about two to four hours every other night, but that's nothing compared with the 40 to 60 hours a week he spent playing online games when he was in college. He cut back only after a full-scale family intervention (干预), in which relatives told him he'd gained weight."There's this whole culture of competition that sucks people in" with online gaming, said Heidrich, now a father of two. "People do it at the expense of everything that was a constant in their lives." Heidrich now visits websites that discuss gaming addiction regularly "to remind myself to keep my love for online games in check."Toebe also regularly visits a site where posters discuss Internet overuse. In August, when she first realized she had a problem, she posted a message on a Yahoo Internet addiction group with the subject fine: "I have an Internet Addiction.""I am self-employed and need the Internet for my work, but I'm failing to accomplish mywork, to take care of my home, to give attention to my children," she wrote in a message sent to the group. "I have no money or insurance to get professional help; I can't even pay my mortgage (抵押贷款) and face losing everything."Since then, Toebe said, she has kept her promise to herself to cut back on her Internet use. "I have a boyfriend now, and I'm not interested in online dating," she said by phone last week. "It's a lot better now."1. Already, by paying close attention to and (40) with the world and people around him, and without any school-type (41) instruction, he has done a task far more difficult, complicated and (42) than anything he will be asked to do in school, or than any of his teachers has done for years. He has solved the (43) of language. He has discovered it—babies don't even know that language exists—and (44) He has done it by exploring, by experimenting, by developing his own model of the grammar of language, (45) until it does work. And while he has been doing this, he has been learning other things as well, (46) and many that are more complicated than the ones they do try to teach him.Part ⅣReading Comprehension (Reading in Depth)Section AQuestions 47 to 56 are based on the following passage. When we think of green buildings, we tend to think of new ones—the kind of high-tech, solar-paneled masterpieces that make the covers of architecture magazines. But the U.S. has more than 100 million existing homes, and it would be (47) wasteful to tear them all down and (48) them with greener versions. An enormous amount of energy and resources went into the construction of those houses. And it would take an average of 65 years for the (49) carbon emissions from a new energy-efficient home to make up for the resources lost by destroying an old one. So in the broadest (50) , the greenest home is the one that has already been built. But at the same time, nearly half of U.S. carbon emissions come from heating, cooling and (51) our homes, offices and other buildings. "You can't deal with climate change without dealing with existing buildings," says Richard Moe, the president of the National Trust. With some (52) , the oldest homes tend to be the least energy-efficient. Houses built before 1939 use about 50% more energy per square foot than those built after 2000, mainly due to the tiny cracks and gaps that (53) over time and let in more outside air.Fortunately, there are a (54) number of relatively simple changes that can green older homes, from (55) ones like Lincoln's Cottage to your own postwar home. And efficiency upgrades (升级) can save more than just the earth; they can help (56) property owners from rising power costs.A) accommodations B) clumsy C) doubtfully D) exceptionsE) expand F) historic G) incredibly H) poweringI) protect J) reduced K) replace L) senseM) shifted N) supplying O) vastSection BPassage OneQuestions 57 to 61 are based on the following passage. You never see them, but they're with you every time you fly. They record where you're going, how fast you're traveling and whether everything on your airplane is functioning normally. Their ability to withstand almost any disaster makes them seem like something out of a comic book. They are known as the black box. When planes fall from the sky, as a Yemeni airliner did on its way to the Comoros Islands in the Indian Ocean June 30, 2009, the black box is the best bet for identifying what went wrong. So when a French submarine (潜水艇) detected the device's homing signal five days later, the discovery marked a huge step toward determining the cause of a tragedy in which 152 passengers were killed. In 1958, Australian scientist David Warren developed a flight-memory recorder that would track basic information like altitude and direction. That was the first model for a black box, which became a requirement on all U.S. commercial flights by 1960. Early models often failed to withstand crashes, however, so in 1965 the device was completely redesigned and moved to the rear of the plane—the area least subject to impact—from its original position in the landing wells (起落架舱). That same year, the Federal Aviation Authority required that the boxes, which were never actually black, be painted orange or yellow to aid visibility.Modem airplanes have two black boxes: a voice recorder, which tracks pilots' conversations, and a flight- data recorder, which monitors fuel levels, engine noises and other operating functions that help investigators reconstruct the aircraft's final moments. Placed in an insulated (隔绝的) case and surrounded by quarter-inch-thick panels of stainless steel, the boxes can withstand massive force and temperatures up to 2,000°F. When submerged, they're also able to emit signals from depths of 20,000 ft. Experts believe the boxes from Air France Flight 447, which crashed near Brazil on June 1, 2009, are in water nearly that deep, but statistics say they're still likely to turn up. In the approximately 20 deep-sea crashes over the past 30 years, only one plane's black boxes were never recovered.57. What does the author say about the black box?A) It ensures the normal functioning of an airplane. B) The idea for its design comes from a comic book.C) Its ability to ward off disasters is incredible. D) It is an indispensable device on an airplane.58. What information could be found from the black box on the Yemeni airliner?A) Data for analyzing the cause of the crash. B) The total number of passengers on board.C) The scene of the crash and extent of the damage. D) Homing signals sent by the pilotbefore the crash.59. Why was the black box redesigned in 19657A) New materials became available by that time. B) Too much space was needed for its installation.C) The early models often got damaged in the crash. D) The early models didn't provide the needed data.60. why did the Federal Aviation Authority require the black boxes be painted orange or yellow?A) To distinguish them from the color of the plane. B) To caution people to handle them with care.C) To make them easily identifiable. D) To conform to international standards.61. What do we know about the black boxes from Air France Flight 447?A) There is still a good chance of their being recovered.B) There is an urgent need for them to be restructured.C) They have stopped sending homing signals.D) They were destroyed somewhere near Brazil.Passage TwoQuestions 62 to 66 are based on the following passage. The $11 billion self-help industry is built on the idea that you should turn negative thoughts like "I never do anything fight" into positive ones like "I can succeed." But was positive thinking advocate Norman Vincent Peale fight? Is there power in positive thinking?Researchers in Canada just published a study in the journal Psychological Science that says trying to get people to think more positively can actually have the opposite effect: it can simply highlight how unhappy they are.The study's authors, Joanne Wood and John Lee of the University of Waterloo and Elaine Perunovic of the University of New Brunswick, begin by citing older research showing that when people get feedback which they believe is overly positive, they actually feel worse, not better. If you tell your dim friend that he has the potential of an Einstein, you're just underlining his faults. In one 1990s experiment, a team including psychologist Joel Cooper of Princeton asked participants to write essays opposing funding for the disabled. When the essayists were later praised for their sympathy, they felt even worse about what they had written. In this experiment, Wood, Lee and Perunovic measured 68 students' self-esteem. The participants were then asked to write down their thoughts and feelings for four minutes. Every 15 seconds, one group of students heard a bell. when it rang, they were supposed to tell themselves, "I am lovable."Those with low self-esteem didn't feel better after the forced self-affirmation. In fact, their moods turned significantly darker than those of members of the control group, who weren't urged to think positive thoughts. The paper provides support for newer forms of psychotherapy (心理治疗) that urge people to accept their negative thoughts and feelings rather than fight them. In the fighting, we not only often fail but can make things worse. Meditation (静思) techniques, in contrast, can teach people to put their shortcomings into a larger, more realistic perspective. Call it the power of negative thinking.62. what do we learn from the first paragraph about the self-help industry?A) It is a highly profitable industry. B) It is based on the concept of positive thinking.C) It was established by Norman Vincent Peale. D) It has yielded positive results.63. What is the finding of the Canadian researchers?A) Encouraging positive thinking may do more harm than good.B) There can be no simple therapy for psychological problems.C) Unhappy people cannot think positively.D) The power of positive thinking is limited.64. What does the author mean by "... you're just underlining his faults" (Line 4, Para 3)?A) You are not taking his mistakes seriously enough.B) You are pointing out the errors he has committed.C) You are emphasizing the fact that he is not intelligent.D) You are trying to make him feel better about his faults.65. What do we learn from the experiment of Wood, Lee and Perunovic?A) It is important for people to continually boost their self-esteem.B) Self-affirmation can bring a positive change to one's mood.C) Forcing a person to think positive thoughts may lower their self-esteem.D) People with low self-esteem seldom write down their true feelings.66. what do we learn from the last paragraph?A) The effects of positive thinking vary from person to person.B) Meditation may prove to be a good form of psychotherapy.C) Different people tend to have different ways of thinking.D) People can avoid making mistakes through meditation.Part ⅤClozeThe term e-commerce refers to all com mercial transactions conducted over the Internet, including transactions by consumers and business to-business transactions. Conceptually, e-commerce does not (67) from well-known commercial offerings such as banking by phone, "mail order" catalogs, or sending a purchase order to a supplier (68) fax. E-commerce follows the same model (69) in other business trans actions; the difference (70) in the details. To a consumer, the most visible form of e-commerce consists (71) online ordering. A customer begins with a catalog of possible items, (72) an item, arranges a form of payment, and (73) an order. Instead of a physical catalog, e-commerce arranges for catalogs to be (74) on the Internet. Instead of sending an order on paper or by telephone, e-commerce arranges for orders to be sent (75) a computer network. Finally, instead of sending a paper representation of payment such as a check, e-commerce (76) one to send payment information electronically. In the decade (77) 1993, e-commerce grew from an (78) novelty (新奇事物) to a mainstream business influence. In 1993, few (79) had a web page, and (80) a handful allowed one to order products or services online. Ten years (81) , both large and small businesses had web pages, and most (82) users with the opportunity to place an order. 2010年6月19日大学英语四级考试参考答案I、写作:Due Attention Should Be Given to Spelling1.如今不少学生在英语学习中不重视拼写2.出现这种情况的原因3.这种现象导致的结果参考范文:Nowadays fewer and fewer students pay attention to their word-spelling. According to a recent survey, there is a dramatic increase in the number of students who can only imitate the pronunciation of a word but be incapable of spelling it. In this essay I will discuss the factors of this phenomenon and offer my own view on it.There are a number of factors can be accountable for this situation. One of the most common factors is that fewer and fewer students need to write English essays. Besides, the goal of most students to learn English is to speak it and pass the examination which means they just need to select the similar words according to the listening materials and passages. Perhaps the most contributing factor is the wide use of electronic devices such as e-dictionaries and computers and students no longer need to correct the words by themselves. As far as I’m concerned, I firmly argue that we need to attach great importance to word-spelling. To the students, they should write English as much as they can. Meanwhile, to the teachers, the dictations should be reinforced in the class.II、快速阅读:1. A) her daughters' repeated complains2. I am not a mathematician, but I assume the rise from 70p to 90p is a rise of 25 percent. M: Oh yes, I see. And the inflation rate is there for comparison.W: Yes. why do you think the rise in pocket money is often higher than inflation? M: I am sorry I’ve no idea. Perhaps parents in Britain are too generous.W: Perhaps they are. But it looks as if children were not better off in 2001 than the y were in 2002. That’s strange, isn’t it? And they seem to have been better off in 2003 than they are now. I wonder why that is.M: Yes, I don’t understand that at all.W: Anyway, if you had children, how much pocket money would you give them? M: I don’t know. I think I’ll probably give them 2 pounds a week.W: Would you? And what would you expect them to do with it?M: Well, out of that, they have to buy some small personal things, but I wouldn’texpect them to save to buy their own socks, for example.W: Yes, by the way, do most children in your country get pocket money?M: Yeah, they do.Q23 What is the table of figures about?Q24 What do we learn from the conversation about British children’s pocket money?Q25 Supposing the man had children, what would he expect them to do withtheir pocket money?IV、仔细阅读:Part IV Reading Comprehension (Reading in Depth)Section A47 G --- incredibly48 K --- replace49 J --- reduced50 L --- sense51 H --- powering52 D --- exceptions53 E --- expand54 O --- vast55 F --- historic56 I --- protectSection BPassage 157.C --- Its ability to ward off (抗御)disaster is incredible58.D --- Data for analyzing the cause of the crash59.D --- The early models often got damaged in the crash60.B --- To make them easily identifiable61.A --- There is still a good chance of their being recoveredPassage 262. She'd wake up early, turn on her laptop and chat on Internet dating sites and instant-messaging programs – leaving her bed for only brief intervals. Her household bills piled up, along with the dishes and dirty laundry, but it took near-constant complaints from her four daughters before she realized she had a problem."I was starting to feel like my whole world was falling apart – kind of slipping into a depression," said Carla. And scores of online discussion boards have popped up on which people discuss negative experiences tied to too much time on the Web."There's no question that there're people who're seriously in trouble because they're overdoing their Internet involvement," said psychiatrist (精神科医生) Ivan Goldberg. Like the 2005 survey, this one was conducted by Stanford University researchers.About 6% of respondents reported that "their relationships suffered because of excessiveInternet use." About 9% attempted to conceal "nonessential Internet use," and nearly 4% reported feeling "preoccupied by the Internet when offline."About 8% said they used the Internet as a way to escape problems, and almost 14% reported they "found it hard to stay away from the Internet for several days at a time.""The Internet problem is still in its infancy," said Elias Aboujaoude, a Stanford professor. No single online activity is to blame for excessive use, he said. "They're online in chat rooms, checking e-mail, or writing blogs. [The problem is] not limited to porn (色情) or gambling" websites.Excessive Internet use should be defined not by the number of hours spent online but "in terms of losses," said Maressa Orzack, a Harvard University professor. "If it's a loss [where] you're not getting to work, and family relationships are breaking down as a result, then it's too much."Since the early 1990s, several clinics have been established in the U. S. to treat heavy Internet users. They include the Center for Internet Addiction Recovery and the Center for Internet Behavior. The website for Orzack's center lists the following among the psychological symptoms of computer addiction:● Having a sense of well-being (幸福) or excitement while at the computer.● Longing for more and mor e time at the computer.● Neglect of family and friends.● Feeling empty, depressed or irritable when not at the computer.● Lying to employers and family about activities.● Inability to stop the activity.● Problems with school or job.Physical symptoms listed include dry eyes, backaches, skipping meals, poor personal hygiene (卫生) and sleep disturbances.People who struggle with excessive Internet use maybe depressed or have other mood disorders, Orzack said. When she discusses Internet habits with her patients, they often report that being online offers a "sense of belonging, and escape, excitement [and] fun," she said. "Some people say relief…because they find themselves so relaxed."Some parts of the Internet seem to draw people in more than others. In August, when she first realized she had a problem, she posted a message on a Yahoo Internet addiction group with the subject line: "I have an Internet Addiction.""I'm self-employed and need the Internet for my work, but I'm failing to accomplish my work,to take care of my home, to give attention to my children," she wrote in a message sent to the group."I have no money or insurance to get professional help; I can't even pay my mortgage (抵押贷款) and face losing everything."Since then, Toebe said, she has kept her promise to herself to cut back on her Internet use. "I have a boyfriend now, and I'm not interested in online dating," she said by phone last week. "It's a lot better now."注意:此部分试题请在答题卡1上作答。

For questions 8-10, complete the sentences with the information given in the passage.Caught in the WebA few months ago, it wasn't unusual for 47-year-old Carla Toebe to spend 15 hours per day online. She'd wake up early, turn on her laptop and chat on Internet dating sites and instant-messaging programs – leaving her bed for only brief intervals. Her household bills piled up, along with the dishes and dirty laundry, but it took near-constant complaints from her four daughters before she realized she had a problem."I was starting to feel like my whole world was falling apart –kind of slipping into a depression," said Carla. "I knew that if I didn't get off the dating sites, I'd just keep going," detaching (使脱离) herself further from the outside world.Toebe's conclusion: She felt like she was "addicted" to the Internet. She's not alone.Concern about excessive Internet use isn't new. As far back as 1995, articles in medical journals and the establishment of a Pennsylvania treatment center for overusers generatedinterest in the subject. And scores of online discussion boards have popped up on which people discuss negative experiences tied to too much time on the Web."There's no question that there're people who're seriously in trouble because they're overdoing their Internet involvement," said psychiatrist (精神科医生) Ivan Goldberg. Like the 2005 survey, this one was conducted by Stanford University researchers.About 6% of respondents reported that "their relationships suffered because of excessive Internet use." About 9% attempted to conceal "nonessential Internet use," and nearly 4% reported feeling "preoccupied by the Internet when offline."About 8% said they used the Internet as a way to escape problems, and almost 14% reported they "found it hard to stay away from the Internet for several days at a time.""The Internet problem is still in its infancy," said Elias Aboujaoude, a Stanford professor. No single online activity is to blame for excessive use, he said. "They're online in chat rooms, checking e-mail, or writing blogs. [The problem is] not limited to porn (色情) or gambling" websites.Excessive Internet use should be defined not by the number of hours spent online but"in terms of losses," said Maressa Orzack, a Harvard University professor. The website for Orzack's center lists the following among the psychological symptoms of computer addiction:● Having a sense of well-being (幸福) or excitement while at the computer.● Longing for more and more time at the computer.● Neglect of family and friends.● Feeling empty, depressed or irritable when not at the computer.● Lying to employers and family about activities.● Inability to stop the activity.● Problems with school or job.Physical symptoms listed include dry eyes, backaches, skipping meals, poor personal hygiene (卫生) and sleep disturbances.People who struggle with excessive Internet use maybe depressed or have other mood disorders, Orzack said. When she discusses Internet habits with her patients, they often report that being online offers a "sense of belonging, and escape, excitement [and] fun," she said. "Some people say relief…because they find themselves so relaxed."Some parts of the Internet seem to draw people in more than others. Internet gamers spend countless hours competing in games against people from all over the world. One such game, called World of Warcraft, is cited on many sites by posters complaining of a "gaming addiction."Andrew Heidrich, an education network administrator from Sacramento, plays World of Warcraft for about two to four hours every other night, but that's nothing compared with the 40to 60 hours a week he spent playing online games when he was in college.

I thought it was quite interesting, but I don’t quite understand the column entitled change. Can you explain what it means? W: Well, I think it means the change from the year before. I am not a mathematician, but I assume the rise from 70p to 90p is a rise of 25 percent. M: Oh yes, I see. And the inflation rate is there for comparison. W: Yes. why do you think the rise in pocket money is often higher than inflation? M: I am sorry I ’ve no idea. Perhaps parents in Britain are too generous.W: Perhaps they are. But it looks as if children were not better off in 2001 than they were in 2002. That’s strange, isn’t it? And they seem to have been better off in 2003 than they are now. I wonder why that is. M: Yes, I don’t understand that at all.W: Anyway, if you had children, how much pocket money would you give them? M: I don’t know. I think I’ll probably give them 2 pounds a week.W: Would you? And what would you expect them to do with it? M: Well, out of that, they have to buy some small personal things, but I wouldn’t expect them to save to buy their own socks, for example. W: Yes, by the way, do most children in your country get pocket money? M: Yeah, they do. Q23 What is the table of figures about? Q24 What do we learn from the conversation about British children’s pocket money?Q25 Supposing the the man man man had had had children, children, children, what what what would would would he he expect expect them them them to to to do do do with with with their their their pocket pocket money? 。

PASSAGE ONEY ou never see them, but they’re with you every time you fly. They record where you’re going, how fast you’re traveling and whether everything on your airplane is functioning normally. Their ability to withstand almost any disaster makes them seem like something out of a comic book. They’re known as the black box. When planes fall from the sky, as a Y emeni airliner did on its way to the Comoros Islands in the Indian Ocean June 30, 2009, the black box is the best bet for identifying what went wrong. So when a French submarine(潜水艇) detected the device’s homing signal five days later, the discovery marked a huge step toward determining the cause of a tragedy in which 152 passengers were killed. In 1958, Australian scientist David Warren developed a flight-memory recorder that would track basic information like altitude and direction. That was the first model for a black box, which became a requirement on all U.S. commercial flights by 1960. Early models often failed to withstand crashes, however, so in 1965 the device was completely redesigned and moved to the rear of the plane-the area least subject to impact-from its original position in the landing wells(起落架舱). That same year, the Federal A viation Authority required that the boxes, which were never actually black, be painted orange or yellow to aid visibility.Modern airplanes have two black boxes: a voice recorder, which tracks pilot s’ conversations, and a flight-data recorder, which monitors fuel levels, engine noises and other operating functions that help investigators reconstruct the aircraft’s final moments. Placed in an insulated(隔绝的) case and surrounded by quarter-inch-thick panels of stainless steel, the boxes can withstand massive force and temperatures up to 2,000℉. When submerged, they’re also able to emit signals from depths of 20,000 ft. Experts believe the boxes from Air France Flight 447, which crashed near Brazil on June 1, 2009, are in water nearly that deep, but statistics say they’re still likely to turn up. In the approximately 20 deep-sea crashes over the past 30 years, only one plane’s black boxes were never recovered.57. What does the author say about the black box?A) It ensures the normal functioning of an airplane. 无B) The idea for its design comes from a comic book. 无、移C) Its ability to ward off disasters is incredible. 无D) It is an indispensable device on an airplane.答案:D。
1.今年来在学生中出现了忽视中文学习的现象2.出现这种现象的原因和后果3.为了改变这种状况,我认为…Due Attention Should Be Given to the Study of ChineseAlong with the step of globalization, most students’attention has shifted from Chinese to foreign cultures. Such a shift brought on great worries among people because it is not good for the development of Chinese culture. There may be several reasons account for why this phenomenon could happen. First and foremost, the globalization greatly stimulated the spread of foreign cultures, which in turn stirred great interest among Chinese students; second, college students are, to some extent, forced to study certain foreign languages so as to pass exams or find good jobs so that they could not spare any time to study Chinese; last but not least, schools have no strict demand on students’ Chinese standard. No doubt, neglecting the study of Chinese will ultimately hold back the development of Chinese culture, and Chinese people may lose their cultural identity in such a competitive world. In order change this situation and save our identity, due attention should be given to the study of Chinese. To begin with, government should put great efforts on the development of Chinese culture to make more people proud of it; besides, colleges and universities should make exams more balanced, not simply emphasizing the importance of foreign languages; finally, schools should also attach great importance to the study of Chinese, making it a compulsory curriculum. Through these efforts, I think, chances of changing this phenomenon are prosperous.PartII Reading Comprehension (Skimming and Scanning)1. C --- Her daughter’s repeated complaints2. She'd wake up early, turn on her laptop and chat on Internet dating sites andinstant-messaging programs –leaving her bed for only brief intervals. TheAmerican Psychiatric Association may consider listing Internet addiction in the next edition of its diagnostic manual. And scores of online discussion boards have popped up on which people discuss negative experiences tied to too much time on the Web."There's no question that there're people who're seriously in trouble because they're overdoing their Internet involvement," said psychiatrist (精神科医生) Ivan Goldberg. Like the 2005 survey, this one was conducted by Stanford University researchers.About 6% of respondents reported that "their relationships suffered because of excessive Internet use." About 9% attempted toconceal "nonessential Internet use," and nearly 4% reported feeling "preoccupied by the Internet when offline."About 8% said they used the Internet as a way to escape problems, and almost 14% reported they "found it hard to stay away from the Internet for several days at a time.""The Internet problem is still in its infancy," said Elias Aboujaoude, a Stanford professor. The website for Orzack's center lists thefollowing among the psychological symptoms of computer addiction:●Having a sense of well-being (幸福) or excitement while at the computer.●Longing for more and more time at the computer.● Neglect of family and friends.● Feeling empty, depressed or irritable when not at the computer.●Lying to employers and family about activities.● Inability to stop the activity.● Problems with school or job.Physical symptoms listed include dry eyes, backaches, skipping meals, poor personal hygiene (卫生) and sleep disturbances.People who struggle with excessive Internet use maybe depressed or have other mood disorders, Orzack said. When she discusses Internet habits with her patients, they often report that being online offers a "sense of belonging, and escape, excitement [and] fun," she said. "Some people say relief…because they find themselves so relaxed."Some parts of the Internet seem to draw people in more than others. Internet gamers spend countless hours competing in gamesagainst people from all over the world.
一、考证/就业类On College Students’ Job Hunting1. 近几年出现了大学生就业难的现象2. 产生这种现象的原因(如大学生追求的目标过高,专业不对口等)3. 如何解决这一问题(改变就业观念,大学生再培训等)Nowadays, the employment of college students is becoming more and more of a problem. About a decade ago, university students could find satisfactory and enviable jobs after graduation, while the things are quite different at present. In addition, according to statistics, about 30% of graduate students can’t find a job but stay at home after graduation.Employment difficulty of college students is due to the following reasons. Among these, the increasing recruitment of colleges and universities plays a vital role. In addition, many colleges and universities fail to adapt their courses to the development of economy …Considering the seriousness of unemployment of college students, I think it is high time that we took effective measures to solve the problem.Above all, college students should realize their own defects and further improve themselves to keep their competitive edge in society. Moreover, colleges or universities should provide more trainings and internship opportunities before the students enter the society. Besides, college students should hold a right attitude towards jobs and set their job expectations at a suitable level. Only through these ways can the college students find a satisfactory job and have a brighter future.College Students’ Starting Their Own Undertakings1)现在有不少大学生毕业后开始自主创业,政府鼓励这种行为,而且还给大学生创业提供了许多优惠和便利措施2)产生这一现象的原因3)你的看法Nowadays there are many college students who choose to start their own undertakings instead of finding a job after graduation. The government encourages this practice, and provides many preferential policies and facilitation measures for college students. This phenomenon has aroused great concern from the whole society. However, why do so many college students take the way of starting their own undertakings? Firstly, college students are facing severe employment situations. Many college graduates couldn’t find ideal jobs, which forces them to set up their own businesses. Moreover, some ambitious college students are not satisfied with being employed by others. They want to develop and prove their talents by running their own businesses.Besides, the government’s encouragement and the media’s reports on college students venture stars have stimulated more college students’ enthusiasm to take this way.As for me, it is a good choice for college students to start their own undertakings. However, it is a very difficult cause, which needs firm determination, clear mind, ability to endure hardship and a feasible project. Therefore, think it over and make full preparation before you decide to start your own business.Choices after Graduation1)根据下图描述某高校近两年毕业生去向分布情况2)分析这样分布的原因3)你的看法毕业去向就业考研出国留学其它所占比例50% 30% 17% 3%From the above table, we can see that the students of this university have three main choices after graduation. Of these choices, the students who have found a job only take up 50%. In contrast, students who pursue further study by taking the postgraduate entrance exam or going abroad have increased greatly than before, with the total percentage of 47%. Indeed, this phenomenon is also quite common in other universities. The following factors can account for the choices of graduates. Above all, with the enrollment extension of universities, college graduates are facing the severe employment situation, which forces them to find another way out. Moreover, in information age, knowledge is updated very rapidly. Many college students find their knowledge is not enough for their future career. Besides, some college students would not like to enter into the complicated society and want to escape from the reality temporarily by going to further study. From my point of view, one’s choice after graduation should be based on his individual condition. Though taking the postgraduate entrance exam or going abroad for further study is a good choice, it is not necessarily true of everyone, because it might involve many factors, such as your future career direction, your economic condition. Therefore, we should take a full account before we make our decisions.Students’ Craze for CertificatesIn recent years, getting a certificate has become a prevailing trend among college students. Just randomly ask a student on campus what he or she is busy with, quite possibly, you may get the answer that he or she is preparing for a certificate of some kind.●It is the employment pressure that forces college students to getmore certificates.●Diplomas and certificates matter a lot in assessing a student’sability.●In order to be more qualified for a job, students compel themselvesto run from one exam to another. From my point of view, when it comes to certificates, we should hold a rational attitude, and by no means go to the extreme.Obtaining a certificate serves as a way rather than an end.Under no circumstances can we neglect the importance of developing our ability.二、社会生活类Credit Cards on Campus1. 越来越多的人使用信用卡,信用卡有哪些好处2. 信用卡的弊端3. 你自己的观点In recent years, credit cards have gained more popularity among college students. With banks’ more focus on college market, an increasing number of college students have applied for credit cards and begun to consume by them. The following three factors can account for the popularity of credit cards on campus. Firstly, a credit card provides overdrawing service, which is a big attraction for those students who have not much money for their domination. Secondly, a credit card can help release financial burdens on those poor students, and hence reduce the risk of their dropping school for lacking money. Besides, many banks make some preferential policies on credit cards, like sending a gift, lowering year cost. Drawn by these policies, many college students have applied for credit cards. As far as I am concerned, it is not a bad thing for college students to own credit cards. However, there is misuse of credit cards among college students. Many students use credit cards to buy luxurious things they don’t need really, and even some of them owe a big credit card debt. Therefore, schools and banks have responsibility to let college students learn how to use credit cards properly. Only in this way can college students enjoy really the advantages of credit cards. The Moonlight Clan1)现在很多年轻人每个月都把自己赚的钱花光,他们被称作“月光族”2)有人认为这是一种时尚的消费观念,但很多人反对这样消费3)我对此的看法是……Nowadays, more and more people, especially the young are joining in the army of “the moonlight clan”. These people exhaust their earnings every month without any savings. Many people think this is a fashionable life style, while other people object to this kind of consumption style. Those who support “the moonlight clan” think that “the moonlight clan” knows how to enjoy life and have a higher life quality. However, other people c riticize “the moonlight clan”. They say that the consumption habit of “the moonlight clan” is unhealthy and sometimes wasteful. In addition, no savings will place “the moonlight clan” in a difficult position in case of unexpected expenses.Weighing these two arguments, I prefer the latter one. In my eyes, though “the moonlight clan” may acquire temporary satisfaction from their consumption, in the long term, it is unfavorable to their family and career. Just as a proverb says, one should always prepare for a rainy day.Direction: For this part you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic Cars and太热的热点,稍微看看即可1.私家轿车越来越多,有些问题随之产生2.比较明显的大问题有......3.我对这种现象的看法Car and Air PollutionToo many cars have created a lot of serious problems in our world. Besides congestion, accidents and fast fuel consumption, cars are responsible for a good part of air pollution in big cities. All the time, they are pumping huge amounts of waste gases into the atmosphere. These gases are very harmful, causing disease and even death. One possible solution is to design and develop clean cars and clean fuels. In Shanghai, some of the public buses begin to run on natural gas, which does not give off as much carbon dioxide as the petrol. But it may take decades for the new models of clean cars completely replace the traditional ones.Another solution is to develop modern public transportation systems and restrict the use of private cars. If the price of petrol rises constantly and the public vehicles are efficient and convenient enough, most people will not buy private cars. And the total number of cars in big cities will reduce greatly. On the whole, the elimination of air pollution needs the collective efforts from the government, the public and the environmentalists.三、安全类(信息、隐私、食品)Information Security1. 信息安全问题日益重要2. 信息安全事故可能导致的危害3. 如何做到信息安全The human beings are stepping into the information society. The information industry develops very rapidly, so do the hackers, trick-playing teens, exploring children, fraudsters, and serious white-collar criminals. Thus, information security becomes an impending important issue. In case of information breach, the victims——government department, an organization or an institution, or a company will inevitably suffer great or small loss. Government may be threatened with national security. Companies may lose opportunities to develop new projects. And the public's and users' confidence will be damaged…………….Then how to deal with this issue? Technology is only a partial solution to information security. What's more important is that organizations and companies should promote the awareness on information security to its staff. However, since no system can ever be 100 percent secure, a prevention-only approach to information security management is not enough. Companies and organizations should adopt a dual approach to information security management by combing prevention and detection techniques.Internet and Privacy1)网络几乎已经渗透到人们生活和工作的方方面面,包括我们的一些个人隐私2)网络会对个人隐私产生哪些影响3)你认为应该如何保障我们在网络上的个人隐私Internet has penetrated into all the aspects of our life and work. We can study and work by it; we can find a job by it; we can communicate by it; we can entertain by it; we can buy and sell by it. We can do almost everything on the Internet, and almost anywhere anytime. However, at the same time Internet provides services for us, it is inevitably invading our privacy to some degree. The services on most websites require our registering. If we want to enjoy these services, we have to provide much private information, including our names, gender, address, telephone number and sometimes bank account. Due to the poor Internet administration and weak network security, our information might be open, stolen or sold. Even sometimes the information will be misused by the criminals.Considering the above-mentioned, we must enhance the alertness when using the Internet. First, when we need Internet service, we should always log on those big legal websites. Second, if the service requires important private information, you should think twice before you type in it.四、文化娱乐类Attending TV PK Shows Does No Good to Young People1)现在各种各样的电视选秀节目吸引了许多年轻人2)为了实现明星梦,一些年轻人甚至放弃了学业,这种现象引起了许多关注3)你怎么看?为什么?Nowadays TV PK shows are great hits in China and have attracted many young people. Some youngsters even give up their studies to attend these shows in the hope of becoming famous overnight. Some people think these shows provide young people more chance to show talents, while others believe that attending these shows does no good to the young people. As for me, I prefer to the latter opinion. It should be admitted that some young people like Li Yuchun has stood out from the numerous attendants in the PK show, but that doesn’t mean attending the PK shows is a good way to become successful for young people. The following reasons can support my view. Firstly, TV PK shows breed restlessness and induce young people to hunt after fame at whatever cost. Secondly, TV PK shows can subvert the youngsters’ values. They think attending the PK shows is a shortcut to the success, so they may despise the way of achieving success by hard work. Finally, if the young people fail in these shows, they will suffer a psychological unbalance. In a word, entering for TV PK shows is not a good way for young people to make a success. I suggest young people should think twice before deciding to attend PK shows.五、节能环保类参考08年1月快速阅读Low Carbon Lifestyle --- More Than a FashionLow-carbon becomes a high-frequency and fashionable word which gets the greatest concern in the world.Low-carbon life means a kind of lifestyle in which people do their best to reduce energy consumption and carbon greenhouse gas emissions. W: Just imagine! We have to finish reading 300 pages before Monday! How can the professor expect us to do it in such a short time?M: Yeah, but what troubles me is that I can‟t find the book in the library or in the university bookstore. Q: What does the man mean?12. M: Do you think I could borrow your car to go grocery shopping? The supermarkets outside the city are so much cheaper. I‟d als o be happy to pick up anything you need.W: Well, I don‟t like to let anyone else drive my car. Tell you what, why don‟t we go together?Q: What does the woman mean?13. M: Forgive the mess in here, we have a party last night. There were a lot of people and they all brought food.W: Yeah, I can tell. Well, I guess it‟s pretty obvious what you‟ll be doing most of today.Q: What does the woman think the man will do?14. W: What time would suit you for the first round talks with John Smith?M: Well, you know my schedule. Other than this Friday, one day is as good as the next.Q: What does the man mean?15. W: I was so angry yesterday! My biology teacher did not even let me explain why I missed the field trip. He just wouldn‟t let me pass!M: That doesn‟t seem fair. I‟d feel that way too if I were you.Q: What does the man imply?16. M: I really can‟t sta nd the way David controls the conversation all the time. If he is going to be at your Christmas party, I just won‟t come.W: I‟m sorry you feel that way, but my mother insists that he come.Q: What does the woman imply?17. W: You‟re taking a course with Professor Johnson. I get Wednesdays off.W: What are the things you hav e to do and the things you don‟t have to do?M: Uh, I don‟t have to do the washing-up, so that‟s good. I thought it was quite interesting, but I don‟t quite understand the column entitled change. Can you explain what it means?W: Well, I think it means the change from the year before. I am not a mathematician, but I assume the rise from 70p to 90p is a rise of 25 percent.M: Oh yes, I see. And the inflation rate is there for comparison.W: Yes. why do you think the rise in pocket money is often higher than inflation?M: I am sorry I‟ve no idea. Perhaps parents in Britain are too generous.W: Perhaps they are. But it looks as if children were not better off in 2001 than they were in 2002. That‟s strange, isn‟t it? And they seem to have been better off in 2003 than they are now. I wonder why that is. M: Yes, I don‟t understand that at all.W: Anyway, if you had children, how much pocket money would you give them?M: I don‟t know. I think I‟ll probably giv e them 2 pounds a week.W: Would you? And what would you expect them to do with it?M: Well, out of that, they have to buy some small personal things, but I wouldn‟t expect them to save to buy their own socks, for example.W: Yes, by the way, do most children in your country get pocket money?M: Yeah, they do.Q23 What is the table of figures about?Q24 What do we learn from the conversation about British children‟s pocket money?Q25 Supposing the man had children, what would he expect them to do with their pocket money?Section BPassage One 【叙述文】As the new sales director for a national computer firm, Alex Gordon was looking forward to his first meeting with the company‟s district managers. Everyone arrived on time, and Alex‟s presentation went extremely well. He decided to end the meeting with the conversation about the importance of the district managers to the company‟s plans.“I believe we are going to continue to increase our share of the market,” he began, “because of the quality of the people in thi s room. The district manager is the key to the success of the sales representatives in his district. He sets the term for everyone else. If he has ambitious goals and is willing to put in long hours, everyone in his unit will follow his example.” When Alex was finished, he received polite applauses, but hardly the warm response he had hoped for. Later he spoke with one of the senior managers. “Things were going so well until the end”, Alex said disappointedly. “Obviously, I said the wrong thing.” “Yes”, the district manager replied. “Half of our managers are women. Most have worked their way up from sales representatives, and they are very proud of the role they played in the company‟s growth. They don‟t care at all about political correctness. But they were definitely surprised and distressed to be referred to as …he‟ in your speech.”Q26 Who did Alex Gordon speak to at the first meeting?Q27 What did Alex want to emphasize at the end of his presentation?Q28 What do we learn about the audience at the meeting?Q29 Why did Alex fail to receive the warm response he had hoped for?Passage Two (议论文)Passage Three【叙述文】Section C Compound Dictation。
