But my big brother who is an expert skis down the really crazy black diamond runs!At the base of the mountain, there are tons of fun things to do besides skiing too. They have a big snow park area perfect for sledding, making snowmen, and having epic snowball fights. There's also a cozy lodge where we can warm up and drink hot chocolate by the fireplace after a long day on the slopes. Outside the lodge, there's even an ice skating rink! How cool is that?The ski season in Beijing usually runs from late November all the way to early March. My family is planning to go for a week around Chinese New Year in late January. The resort is beautifully decorated for the holidays and there are lots of fun festivals and events happening. Let me tell you everything about it.First of all, there are some really awesome ski resorts not too far from where I live in Beijing. The biggest and best one is called Shijinglong Ski Resort. It's in a beautiful valley surrounded by tall mountains covered in snow and pine trees. The resort has tons of different slopes for skiing and snowboarding for all levels fromtotal beginners like you to extreme daredevil pros. Don't worry, there are separate areas just for kids and beginners to learn and practice safely.At Shijinglong they have gentle slopes called "bunny hills" that are really wide and not steep at all. That's where all the new skiers start. The skiing instructors there are really nice and they make learning super easy and fun. They'll have you skiing down the bunny hills after just a couple hours of lessons! Then when you get better, you can move up to more difficult runs on bigger slopes.But the best part is that Shijinglong has slopes for the craziest, most extreme skiers and snowboarders too! The place is famous for having some of the most intense runs in all of China. There are cliffs, huge jumps, narrow chutes, steep pitches, and all sorts of white-knuckle trails for the pros. We can watch in awe as the really good skiers flip through the air and zoom down those scary slopes at top speeds. I'm not that brave yet but maybe you'll be inspired to go for it after you get some experience!There's actually a snow park in the middle of the resort just for snowboarders with half-pipes, rails, boxes and all sorts of ramps and obstacles to shred and grind. The snowboarders there are maniacs pulling off crazy spins and tricks. We can takelessons and learn some simpler skills on the Snow Dynamite learning course with coaching from the park staff.When we need a break from skiing, there's a whole village at the base of the mountain with restaurants, cafes, shops, and hotels. We can get hot chocolate and warm up by the fire after a long day on the slopes. The restaurants have really yummy food like hot noodles, dumplings and stuff to refuel after burning all those calories skiing. At night we can go night skiing on the freshly groomed trails all lit up under the stars!Another awesome option is the Huaibei International Ski Resort, which is a bit farther away but has a big modern village area with an indoor skiing park and Olympic-quality ski jumps and runs for the professionals. They actually hosted some of the events for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. We could pretend to be Olympic skiers racing down the same courses as the world's best! This resort also has an amazing water park with waterslides, lazy rivers, hot springs and more to enjoy after skiing.Now I have to warn you, the ski season in Beijing is pretty short because it doesn't get super freezing cold for too long. Whenever I get tired of regular skiing, I'll go tubing for a few hours instead. There's never a dull moment!After a long day on the slopes, we'll go back to my house in Beijing and warm up inside. There are tons of different trails for all ability levels, from little bunny slopes for beginners like me to daring black diamond runs that only the bravest dare ski down. The longest trail is a whopping 3 kilometers long! Just imagine how much fun we could have skiing all day on that monster.But the skiing is only half the fun.
