built 引导的过去分词短语起状语的作用，说明动作发生的背景或情况。
主句能够补全为it was the oldest car taking partin the race.4. Many of the cars broke dow n on the conrse …很多汽车在途中就抛了锚……break down 为固定短语，其含义之一是“ （机械等）出故障”、“出毛病”：This morning I was late for work,beceuse my car brokedown twice.今天上午我上班迟到了，因为我的车坏了两次。

(1) winning 为现在分词作定语：Those of the winning team jumped happily.获胜队的队员们高兴地跳着。
(2) 表示速度为多少时可用a speed of+ 数量词这个结构：You must have been driving at a speed of seventy miles an hour.你刚才一定是以每小时70 英里的速度在开车。

语⾔点1 use—词的灵活应⽤： 1) use作实义动词，意为“使⽤' 相当于employ。
2) used to do表⽰“过去常常做，现在不再做了”，注意，此结构加动词原形。
例：I used to swim every day when I was a child.孩提时代，我每天去游泳。
used to没有⼈称和数的变化，例： She /1 / They used to do … 3) be used to doing = be accustomed to doing 习惯于做某事 这⾥的be是系动词，used是形容词，to是介词，后接名词或动名词。
