【2011广西贵港】I love to write! Ever since I was a five-year-old girl, I wrote stories in my notebooks and on small pieces of paper. I told stories to my friends. As a grown-up, I have written over 100 books! That?s a lot! As a teacher, it?s my goal to encourage all of my students to love to write.

Writing is easy if you?re careful enough, I told them. Everyone I meet is a possible character.

Everything I see or do is a possible scene in a book. Start looking around you. You?ll be amazed at what you discover.

Anyone can be a writer. You just put your pencil on your paper and write what you like to read, step by step:

● Create great characters. If you know your characters well, they?ll write the story for you.

● Interest the reader right at the beginning. You can start your stories with dialogue or action. If you can make the reader ask questions, then he has to keep reading to find out the answers.

● Follow the steps. The steps for every story are almost the same: Introduce the characters and the conflict(争端);things get worse; all seems lost; the hero saves the day!

● Balance is the key.

Remember, when writing, it doesn?t hur t to add some humor(幽默).

It was near Christmas during my first semester teaching at a new school. I loved my small special class more than any group I had taught in the past. They were hungry for knowledge and I was enjoying teaching.

Other teachers had told me that our children were from poor families and not to expect any child to bring a Christmas gift. In fa ct, I wasn?t expecting any gifts.

Imagine my surprise when every child brought me a gift on the day before our holiday break. First, I got a much-loved stuffed monkey from a shy girl. I was told, “ He is my favorite, but I love you and I want him to be with you, Miss Taylor.” How thrilled I was!

Next came a new set of Christmas tree lights that was “ missing” from a mother?s cupboard.

Finally, I came to one little boy?s gift to express my happiness, I was interrupted (打断) by the giver, “ And see, it is new!It still has the price tag.”

When other children laughed at him, I stopped then and said, “ Oh, books are good in that way. The story is always new if you have not read it before. Now, Let?s share one together.” Everyone listened quietly as I read the mos t wonderful Christmas story of my life.

But how could I let the old man walk by without saying anything? So for the first time, I asked, “Hey, Mr. Dumb, what?s the time?"

Some of the apps provide the latest information about areas hit by the virus, while others collect data on infected persons. The Chinese government is working with two of the country’s largest technology companies to keep track of the disease. The two, Alibaba Group and Tencent Holdings, created color-based systems that record the health of individuals and identify carriers of the coronavirus. In February, Alipay, a payment app operated by Alibaba, released a system that uses colored QR Codes to show the health of people in the city of Hangzhou. A QR code is a sign a smartphone can read with its camera. Once the sign is recognized, the phone takes the user directly to an internet link with information about a subject. After completing the questionnaire, users receive a mobile phone message. It includes a color-based QR Code that relates to the health situation they described. Users with a red code are told to quarantine themselves for 14 days and continue reporting their condition by using Alibaba’s DingTalk messaging app. Users with a yellow code are told to stay in quarantine for 7 days, while those with a green code can travel freely. Chinese state media said the Alibaba system would be deployed at train stations, along major roads and other travel checkpoints. They added that the system is also being used in some neighborhoods. People are asked to show QR Codes when entering their apartment buildings. Customers are asked to do the same before entering the local supermarket. Alipay said it was working with the government to expand the system nationwide. Tencent, which operates China’s popular messaging app WeChat, reported the launch of a similar QR Code-based tracking system. Tencent developed the system with help from China’s National Development and Reform Council, which is currently in use in the southern city of Shenzhen. Officials said they expected it to be deployed to other parts of Guangdong province soon. Even before the latest systems were announced, many Chinese were already using mapping and travel apps in an effort to avoid areas with coronavirus infections. One of the apps, developed by WeChat, uses official reports to identify places in the cities of Shenzhen and Guangzhou where coronavirus cases have been confirmed.
