According to the projections by the United Nations Population Division, the world population will increase from 6.8 billion today to 9 billion by 2050. Sixty-five to ninety percent of the inland capture fish production takes place in the developing and low-income food-deficit countries. The World Bank"s forecast for 2020 suggests that 826 million people, or 12.8 percent, of developing country citizens will be living on US $1.25 a day or less and that there will be almost 2 billion poor people living at or below the US $2 a day poverty line. The growing population will need significant increase in food production at affordable prices.More land, including wetlands, will be used, and some will be used more intensively, as agricultural food production expands during decades. This will result in increased use of agrochemicals with serious negative consequences for inland fisheries. The demand for water for both irrigation and domestic purposes will continue to increase, leading to reduced availability of water for fisheries, especially during the dry season. There will be attempts to transfer water between separate basins, with unpredictable consequences for biodiversity. There are also already plans to connect large rivers and transform them into shipping lanes linking distant cities, provinces and countries in areas with poorly developed rail and road infrastructure. There is expected to be increased demand for energy, including hydropower—leading to further damming of rivers. The need for animal protein, including fish, will increase. Most marine fish stocks are already exploited. Despite increases in aquaculture production, fishing pressure will increase on inland fish stocks, and there will probably be a rise in unsustainable fishing methods, such as the use of explosives and poison, electrofishing and dry pumping of small natural waterbodies. These methods are all capable of killing large amounts of fish indiscriminately.解析:takes place解析:The World Bank"s forecast解析:will be living on解析:poverty line解析:at affordable prices解析:more intensively解析:result in解析:The demand for water解析:reduced availability解析:transfer解析:to connect large rivers解析:linking distant cities解析:leading to解析:will increase解析:Despite解析:fishing pressure解析:explosives and poison解析:small natural waterbodies解析:large amounts of fish三、B: Listening Comprehension(总题数:0,分数:0.00)四、Ⅰ. Because of the climate and the expense involved in going out for the evening, many British people spend a lot of time at home and a large part of their social life takes place there.Young people tend to stay with their families longer these days as accommodation is expensive but, when they move away to a job or college, there are various options open to them. They can get lodgings with a landlady. This means that they rent a room in someone"s house and have breakfast with the family. They can also get a bed-sitting room, that is to say one self-contained room in which they can cook, live and sleep. Alternatively, they can share a rented flat or house with a group of young people, perhaps the most popular option of all.According to the speaker, British people like to do three jobs about the house they live in. And I felt helpless, because I knew I could never find out what really happened. And I knew I"d never get my stuff back. I called the police so that I could have a record of what was stolen for tax purposes. But, they never caught the thief.W: And that wasn"t the first time you were robbed.M: No. I"ve had things taken by pickpockets. There are three main elements that combine to create either a positive or negative experience for listeners. They can result in a voice that is pleasing to listen to and can be used effectively, or they can create a voice that doesn"t hold the attention, or even worse, causes an adverse reaction. The three elements are volume, pitch and pace. When evaluating volume, keep in mind that a good speaker will adjust to the size of both the room and the audience. Of course, with an amplifying device like a microphone, the speaker can use a natural tone. But the speaker should not he dependent on microphones. A good speaker can speak loudly without shouting. The second element—pitch is related to the highness and lowness of the sounds. High pitches are for most people more difficult to listen to, so in general the speaker should use the lower registers of the voice. During a presentation, it"s important to vary pitch to some extent in order to maintain interest. The third element, pace, that is how fast or slow words and sounds are articulated, should also be varied. A slower pace can be used to emphasize important points. Note that the time spent not speaking can be meaningful too. Pauses ought to be used to signal transitions or create anticipation. Because a pause gives the listener time to think about what was just said or even to predict what might come next, it can be very effective when moving from one topic to another. What I would like you to do now is watch and listen to a video disc and use the forms I gave you to rate the speaking voices you hear. Then tonight I want you to go home and read a passage into a recorder and evaluate your own voice. What is the main topic of this talk?e a microphone to make his voice heard to every listener.B.Adjust his voice to the size of the room and the audience. √C.Speak loudly without using a microphone.D.Speak in a natural tone pleasing to listeners.解析:[听力原文]As far as volume is concerned, what should a speaker do when addressing listeners?A.To emphasize important points. √B.To signal a transition to the next topic.C.To stimulate interest from listeners.D.To keep listeners in suspense.解析:[听力原文]According to the talk, why should a speaker use a slower pace in a speech?A.Watch and listen to a video disc.B.Rate the voice of effective speakers.C.Record a good speaker"s voice.D.Evaluate their own voice in a recorder. √解析:[听力原文]What does the lecturer want listeners to do when they go home?(分数:4.00)A.$25.B.$27.C.$30. √D.$32.Rona: Hello. Now let us begin Part A with the first passage.听力原文:With the economic globalization, more and more young people are working under great pressure. In my recent survey, I have found that childless people are one of the fastest-growing segments of the work force. One woman in five over the age of forty has never given birth to a child. In the near future, the number of households without children will overtake the number of households with children. Those childless couples are getting more and more used to their own life. Some childless couples look forward to child-free sections in restaurants and airplanes and recreational areas. They might only shop, dine or swim in ‘adult-only’ spaces in order to avoid noisy infants and keep themselves quiet and peaceful. I am afraid this phenomenon will leave a negative impact on social development.1.Passage 1正确答案:随着经济全球化,越来越多的人在巨大压力下工作。

In some cultures, almost any sign of anger is inappropriate. In others, people use anger as a way of extending relationships. Finnishpeople believe that expressions of anger show a lack of self-control. This attitude can make them seem very peaceful. For example, road rage is a problem in many countries, but not in Finland. There, experts say, a car accident doesn"t make people angry. The drivers politely exchange information and then go on. And no one complains when a bus breaks down. The passengers simply get off and wait for the next one.Such behavior would not happen in the United States where expressing anger is accepted—even expected. The problem occurs when people from cultures where anger is acceptable visit countries where it is not. For example, if an American visiting England complained in a tone of voice that would be effective at home, no one would pay attention. They would see him as just another impolite American. This is because the English usually avoid showing anger unless the situation is extremely serious.Avoidance of public anger is also common in Japan. The expression of anger is unacceptable and destructive. This attitude is very different from the one in the United States, where many people believe that not expressing anger can lead to depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, or even violence. In countries that don"t express anger, most people would think this idea was ridiculous or even dangerous. However, in some other cultures, anger is more lightly received and easily forgotten than in the United States. Americans traveling in the Middle East or some Mediterranean countries are often surprised by the amount of anger they see and hear. Although some calendars still mark the beginning of the week "Sunday", more and more of us have come to regard Monday as the first day of the week with Saturday and Sunday comprising the two-day periods thought of as the weekend. In fact, the word "weekend" didn"t even exist in English until about the middle of the 19th century. In England at that time, Saturday afternoons had just been added to Sundays and holidays as a time for workers to have off from their jobs. This innovation became common in the United States in the 1920s. But as the workweek shortened during the Great Depression of the 1930s, the weekend expanded to two full days, Saturday and Sunday. Some people thought that this trend would continue due to increasing automation and the workweek might decrease to four days or even fewer. But so far, this hasn"t happened. The workweek seems to have stabilized the 40 hours made up of five eight-hour days. Next time I"m going to talk about the idea of adding Monday to the weekend. (199)When did the word "weekend" begin to exist in the English language?A.In the 1920s.B.In the 1930s. √C.In the middle of the 19th century.D.At the end of the 20th century.解析:[听力原文]When did American people begin to have two-day weekend?A.The workweek might decrease to four days. √B.Workers might depend heavily on automation.C.Inefficient employees might lose their jobs.D.Employees might work in a relaxed atmosphere.解析:[听力原文]What did some people predict from increasing automation?A.Changing work style in the United States.B.Shorter workweek resulting in increasing automation.C.Regular practice of 40 hours of five eight-hour days.D.The idea of including Monday in the weekend. √解析:[听力原文]What is the speaker going to talk about next time?(分数:4.00)A.The poor after-sale service. √B.The repairman"s skill.C.The delay in delivering goods.D.The high price of low quality goods.解析:[听力原文]W: Good morning. How are things in your company?W: Not as good as I had hoped, Mrs. Brown.P: Oh, I"m sorry to hear that. What"s wrong?W: You sent an engineer, a Mr. Bains, to repair the faulty valves on the pipe system you installed last year and he came without the necessary equipment. He tells me it will take him a week to get what he needs. We told him what he needed and yet he came here with nothing.P: I guess he had to make an inspection to see what he had to get to do the repair.W: Mrs. Brown, you know that is not true. We told you what was needed and now we have a further delay. It seems to me he has wasted his time coming to Boston. And in the meantime, we cannot use the pipes.P: Well, where is Mr. Bains now, is he still with you?W: I think he has gone now to his hotel. He told me he would return with the parts he needs but he didn"t say when exactly.P: Leave it to me, Mr. Johnson. I"ll call him and talk to him myself. Today I"d like to give you a brief talk on public speaking. Students in American schools learn from an early age to give presentations as part of their regular classroom activities. Children as young as five years old often give brief talks about objects they bring in to school—called "show and tell." This training is a basis for later public speaking. Even so, many native English-speaking adults are afraid to speak or give presentations in front of a large group. Speaking English in public meetings is necessary for many students and employees. The best way to improve is to practice public speaking in a friendly environment. Learners need to receive feedback about what they are doing well and about their mistakes. One group that gives members the chance to practice is Toastmasters. Toastmasters is an international organization that holds weekly meetings. At the meetings, members each give a speech and give others advice about their speeches and speaking style.Charles LeBeau is a public speaking professor and consultant. This is what he says about a simple approach that helps English learners. "The approach that I"ve taken is to simplify and break it down. First, if we look at presentation, what"s going on, there are basically three messages that the presenter is giving the audience, all simultaneously. There"s what I call the physical message, which is basically body language. It"s the way that my body, as a speaker, is talking to the audience. And then there"s also the visual message. The visual messages are the slides that we now make and show the audience. And the third message is the story message, which is the content of our presentation. The story message also includes how we organize our ideas to present to the audience."Next time we will explore Charles LeBeau"s recommendations for improving the physical message. He thinks this is the public speaking skill that is easiest for English learners to improve quickly. How do American young children give their brief presentations in school?A.To improve their languages.B.To attend weekly meetings.C.To practice public speaking. √D.To meet public speaking professors.解析:[听力原文]Why do people go to Toastmasters?A.Physical message.B.Visual message.C.Story message.D.Moral message. √According to Mr. LeBeau, public presentation basically gives three messages to the audience. Well, then you could tell me something about this programme, couldn"t you? Sally: I"d be only too glad to. What do you want to know?Jack: Well, what kind of assessment is there for this particular programme? It"s just that I haven"t taken an exam for quite a long time, so I"m nervous about the course.Sally: Oh, take it easy. There is no need to worry at all. I was nervous too when I first came here until I found that the course assessment emphasizes essays and seminar papers. This helped me to gain confidence in my academic work before the final examinations.Jack: How many papers are required before the finals?Sally: Five essays and about six short papers, something like that.Jack: I see. That doesn"t seem too bad. Did you enjoy the course?Sally: Yes, very much. I greatly appreciate the year that I studied here. At first I thought the course would be very theoretical, but in fact it was very practical and relevant to the actual teaching. It proved to be of a great assistance to me in my education career.Jack: What about the teachers here?Sally: Oh, they"re very helpful. (分数:30.00) __________________________________________________________________________________________ 正确答案:() 解析:我很高兴应邀与各位交流一下不同文化所形成的交际模式。 [听力原文] I"m very happy to be invited and talk about communication pattern of different cultures. I will give my presentation based on my personal experience and observations as an American teacher in China. // People in every culture tend to regard the way they do things as "normal". But in regard to ways of speaking, what may seem natural to one person may be odd or misunderstood by someone outside the culture. // Communication patterns that cause confusion often center on indirect speech. Chinese and Americans can both speak indirectly, but their use of this speech pattern depends on many factors.// Context is crucial to understanding the indirect speech, such as speakers" economic and work position in society, where they were born and have lived, and how they identify themselves in relation to themselves and others. __________________________________________________________________________________________ 正确答案:() 解析:假期往往是快乐与压力相伴而行。 [听力原文] The holiday season is both joyful and stressful at once. There is family to get along with, gifts to buy and return, people to visit, plenty of festive food to eat, sales to rush to, and parties to plan and attend. Returning to the usual routine and quieter workplace can dampen your spirits just by the absence of exciting things to do. It is normal to feel a little low and that feeling will soon pass once the routine re-establishes itself. After the many indulgences over the holiday period, it can leave you feeling a little out of shape. Having healthy food and keeping up regular exercises will enhance your mood and help you return to good shape. If you"re worried about not keeping warm enough during the colder weather, such excellent choices as healthy, chunky, hot soups or vegetables will both warm and fill you up without carrying lots of calories. 四、Part B(总题数:1,分数:30.00)
