Plants are very important 1 (live) things. Life could not go on if there 2 no plants.

This is because plants can make food 3 air, water and sunlight. Animals get their food by

eating plants and other animals. Therefore animals and man need plants in order to live. This is 4

we find that there are so many plants around us. If you look 5 (careful) at the plants around

you, you will find that 6 are two kinds of plants; flowering plants and non-flowering plants.

Flowering plants can make seeds. The seeds are protected by the fruits. Some 7 (fruit)

have one seed, some have two, three or four, and some have many seeds. But a few have no seeds

at all . 8 example of a fruit without seeds is the banana fruit.

Most non-flowering plants do not grow from seeds. They grow from spores(孢子). Spores

are very, very small. Some spores are so small and light that they 9 float in the air. We may say

that spores are quite the same as seeds. When these spores fall on wet and 10 (shade) places,

they usually grow into new plants.

(dropped) some grass seeds. She dropped them near her home. They grew--and the first wheat was

born. The idea grew, too. Women planted roots and fruit trees. Then they 8 stay at home and

look after the children and animals. Women liked baby animals. Scientists think that women kept

the first man-raised animals--dogs, cows, sheep and goats. That idea grew, too. Then their

Life gets noisier every day and very few people can be free from noise of some sort 1

another. It doesn’t matter where you live—in the middle of 2 modern city, or a faraway

village—the chances that you will be disturbed by jet planes, transistor radios, oil-powered

engines, etc. are almost everywhere. We seem to be getting used to noise, too. Some people feel

quite lonely 3 background music while they are working.

4 (science) tests have shown that total silence can be very 5 (frighten) experience for

this can do harm to their eardrums(耳鼓).The noise level in some disco is far above the usual

safety level for heavy industrial areas.
