Translation Criteria 姓名：胡婷 班级：商务英语1301 学号：2013303010738 Abstract: The source text mainly states if any party of this Agreement can’t perform

the obligation or have any delay for causing occurrence beyond the control of the party,the party shall not constitute a breach hereof or give rise to any claims for the damages and list the things.The translation criteria of clearness,correction and smoothness is used to translate the source text.At first, the source text is analyzed,after that it is expressed naturally.Finally it is corrected to check any errors which may exist. Using this kind of translation criteria, which is faithful to the source text,it is able to make the source text popular and easy to understand by we readers.

I will adopt the British history professor Alexander Fraser Tytler’s translation criteria ‘Three Principles’ to analyze the target text：The translation should give a complete transcript of the ideas of the original work.；The style and manner of writing should be of the same character with that of the original；The translation should have all the ease of the original composition. What is said above is the main content of the ‘Three Principles’,which I will also use to analyze the whole target text next. This whole part ‘any failure or delay in the performance by either party hereto of its obligations under this Agreement’ serves as the subject of the first sentence.Any failure or delay in the performance’ means if there are some failures or delays in the performance.As for this sentence ‘by either party hereto of its obligations under this Agreement’ in the source text, ‘either party ’is any one of the two parties. ‘By’ indicate passiveness,whose performer is any one of the two parties. ‘Its obligations under this Agreement’ just means the obligations of this Agreement.The whole part means that if any one of the two parties of this Agreement can’t perform the obligation or have any delay. The style and manner of writing of the target is of the same character with that of the original source text.This part s ‘hall not constitute a breach hereof or give rise to any claims for damages’ acts as the predicate and object. ‘Constitute’ means make up. ‘Breach’ is the meaning of go against.Give rise to intends arouse.This part express that shall not make up going against the Agreement or claim for any damage.As for the sentence if and to the extent that it is caused by occurrence beyond the control of the party affected,it adverbial clause of condition led by if.To the extent means to the degree.That..affected is a appositive clause,which means it is caused by accident or out of control of the party.but without limiting the generality of the forgoing indicates but in the condition of not limiting giving up the generality.The target text have clearly claim the meaning of the source text for the translation of the target text have given a complete transcript of the ideas of the source text.The followings are the list which shall not make up going against the Agreement or claim for any damage.Acts of governmental authority, acts of god mean which was caused by the government or the natural factors.’Strikes or concerted acts of workmen’ means the action of the workers who don’t work or unite. Riots and rebellion are both the meaning of which are led to.by people who don’t obey the rules to make all kinds of trouble.Acts of a public enemy is occur in public.Insurrection,some people unite to fight with the governor.Sabotage means destroy.Epidemic is a disease which can infect other people.Quarantine restrictions ,by isolating infection source to preventing others from being infected with some kind of disease.Failures by contractors or subcontractors,transportation embargoes,failures or delays in transportation indicate that the contractors or subcontractors , transportation embargoes can’t follow the obligation or have delayed in transporting.The order of any court of competent jurisdiction express the order of any court which possess the right of competency or jurisdiction.The above list also follow the Three Principles as the translation of the target text gave a complete transcript of the ideas of the source text.

Conclusion: To sum up, the translation of the target text have given a complete

transcript of the ideas of the source text .The style and manner of writing also is of the same character with that of the original work.But the only drawback in the target text is that it is not enough simple and clear. The translation should have all the ease of the original composition.As a result,the source should be translated further simper not to be so complicated.

翻译Unit11. International trade, also known as world trade, foreign trade or overseas trade, is the exchange of goods and services between countries. 国际贸易，又称世界贸易、对外贸易或海外贸易，是国与国之间商品和服务的交换交换。

2. Trade may occur because of economies of scale, that is, the cost advantages of large-scale production.贸易可能源于规模经济，即大规模生产带来的成本优势。

3. Visible trade refers to exports and imports of goods, while invisible trade refers to an exchange of services, labor or other non-physical goods between countries.有形贸易即产品的进出口，而无形贸易则指服务和资产的交换。

4. If a country’ s exports exceed its imports, it has a trade surplus and the trade balance issaidto be positive. If imports exceed exports, the country has a trade deficit and its tradebalance is said to be negative.如果出口大于进口，即为贸易顺差，称为出超；如果进口大于出口，则为贸易逆差，称为入超。

5. A tariff is a tax levied on a commodity when it crosses the boundary of a customs area which usually coincides with the area of a country. 关税即当货物跨越关境边界时征收的税，关境通常就是国境。
