II.Teaching Steps
Step 1.

(1)Part A Listening Focus
Listen to words, phrases and sentences, and then repeat after the recording.
Explain difficult antonyms and expressions, such as: tidy and messy; wide and narrow; heavy traffic.
Step 2.

(2)Part B Listening Practice
Exercise 1: Listen carefully and write down every word that you hear.
Keys: warm; hot; tall; low; bad; good; cloudy; windy; cool; cold; heavy; wet; short; tall; small; big; light;
heavy; dry; small
Exercise 2: Listen carefully while rereading the sentences in Part A of this unit. If the sentence you hear
is the same as the one you read, choose S; if it is difficult, choose D.

Exercise 3: Listen carefully and try to fill in the blanks with the words that you hear.
Explain difficult words and expressions: hometown; home town; much the same; air-conditioner; knock

(3)Part C Reading Aloud Practice
1. Explain skills of reading poetry and difficult expressions.

2. Listen to the recording and ask students to imitate sentence by sentence.
3. Ask several students to read the poems;
4. Correct the wrong pronunciation.

(4)Part D Speaking Workshop
Important words and expressions: weather report; northeastern; pretty much the same; notice; mine; enjoy
Pair work: Ask students to make up short dialogues and act them out. They are required to describe
weather in different areas with the given phrases and sentence patterns.
Model 1
S1: Martin, have you been to the northeastern part of China?
S2: Yes. I lived in Changchun for a year.
S3: How did you like the weather there?
S2: Well, it was very cold in winter. But I didn’t mind much, because it was quite warm in the house. I
enjoyed the summer there. It was not as hot as in Hangzhou. There was not much rainfall there.
Model 2
T: Class, do you know anything about the weather in New York?
S1: Not much, I am afraid,
S2: I think the weather in New York is pretty much the same as that in Beijing..
S3: I noticed from the weather reports that for the last few years it has been colder in New York than in
Beijing in winter.
S4: It snows more in New York.
