These days shared bikes are becoming the center of attention in my WeChat friend circle. Many of my friends are sharing photos of themselves riding bikes, especially during the weekend in natural parks, and I can see people logging in (登录) and out of shared bike apps.

I’m very happy that there are shared bikes on the road. They have saved us a lot of time during special situations, and on beautiful, clear days, people enjoy riding them outside the city.

I tried shared bikes last week, and I didn’t like th em very much. I think the first shared bikes without baskets are designed for athletes. They are very hard to ride, and the seats are not comfortable. It makes me wonder whether people really like riding shared bikes or are just saying this to agree with others.

A friend secretly told me she tried the bikes to fit in. She doesn’t like bikes and finds Beijing’s roads too hard for bike riding. But recently, the only way to hang out with her friends is riding out of town together. To join in social activities, she had to pick up bike riding again.

Another friend admitted that he started talking about and sharing photos on shared bikes in order just to appear modern and fashionable to friends. He started paying attention when shared bikes first came into use.

These views will give me something new to think about when I ride these bikes again.

I had been a happy girl until one day when I was fifteen months old. One of my eyes was badly hurt in an accident. I lost the sight of the eye, with an ugly scar around it. Children refused to play games with me. It made me very sad. I always walked, looking at the floor, so that people would not see the ugly face. My mother encouraged me to be brave. She told me, "Alice, hold your head up high and face the world. If you do, it will be OK, and people will see your beautiful soul."Mom's words meant different things to me over the years.

As a little child, I thought Morn meant," Be careful or you will fall down."When I grew up, I still wanted to look down to hide my shame. She repeated these words whenever I wanted to hide. Mom's words helped me realize that I should look at people in the eye and let them know me. When I tried, I found people were friendly to me.

In high school, I worked hard at my lessons and succeeded in my studies. Everybody began to like me and I had some friends. However, I still felt sorry about my scar, my ugly face. Sometimes when things got really bad, I would cry to my mom. She was always there for me. She would look at me and said," Hold your head up high and face the world. Let them see the beauty that is inside."I became confident.

At university, I took part in all kinds of activities. I joined a music club. We held concerts to raise money to help poor children. The club became so famous and I had more friends. Then John, a popular musician,

came into my life. He didn't mind the scar. We soon fell in love with each other. Two years later, we got married.

My mother's words have been encouraging me to face my problems bravely and believe in myself.

When you cough or sneeze, you’d better turn your head away from others and cover your mouth with the full part of your hand. And then, you should say, “Excuse me.”

This seems so simple, but it is surprising how many kids have never been told to do this. Actually, I notice adults all the time who cough and sneeze in public without placing a hand over the mouth. One important thing I point out to the kids is that after they sneeze or cough on their hands, they should wash their hands as soon as possible. If not, they will be passing those germs (细菌) along to everything and everyone they touch.

If you come to a door and someone is following you, hold the door. If the door opens by pulling, pull it open, stand to the side, and allow the other person to pass through first, then you can walk through. If the door opens by pushing, hold the door after you pass through.

After a few weeks of seeing kids try to get through doors in the school and watching them enter restaurants as the door hit other people, I knew I had to discuss the problem with my students. Teaching them small acts of kindness, such as letting someone else go through a door first as they hold it open, may seem unimportant, but it can go along way toward helping students realize how to be polite and thank others. Once they’ve been told, they’re halfway there.

When we have to go up moving stairs, we will stand to the right. That will give others who are in a hurry a choice of walking up the left-hand side of the moving stairs. When we are going to enter a lift, the underground, or a doorway, we will wait for others to exit before we enter.

After college when I moved to London, I was surprised at how polite everyone was in the subways. I was even more touched when I traveled to Japan. In both places, people made efforts to make way for others. On moving stairs, everyone stood to the right and walked to the left. On lifts, everyone would stand over to the side and allow others to exit before they would begin to enter.

11. When you cough or sneeze, you should ________.

A. touch everything

B. cover your mouth

C. point out to the kids

D. pass the germs to others

12. If you come to a door and someone is following you, you’d better _______.

A. hold the door

B. pass through

C. close the door

D. stand to the side

13. Why should we stand to the right of moving stairs?

A. Because it’s dangerous to stand to the left.

B. Because it’s a traffic rule which we must follow.

C. Because we must wait for others to move first.

D. Because we should make way for people in a hurry.

14. From the passage we can know the writer is a ________.

五、任务型阅读理解阅读下列短文,根据短文中的信息完成文后表格。(每空一词)

We brush our teeth every day but few people know how well we’re brushing. Today, a French company has introduced an electric toothbrush, which can work wirelessly (无线地) with a smart phone. It’s called the Kolibree toothbrush. It has different models, and will cost from $99 to $200.

Users download an app and connect via Bluetooth, and the Kolibree will record

1) the time you spent brushing teeth,

2) whether all areas of your mouth are reached,

3) whether you brush up and down instead of just side to side. Then it will send the information to a mobile phone via Bluetooth, telling you whether you have brushed in a proper way.

The Kolibree app records your progress and scores your brushing way to help you improve brushing habits.

The toothbrush will also be able to talk to other apps on your phone, so developers could create a game controlled by your toothbrush. That would be very interesting.

The Kolibree toothbrush was invented by Thomas Serval. He says the idea of inventing it came from his experience as a father. He would come home from work and ask his kids if they had brushed their teeth. They always answered “yes”, but Thomas used to find their toothbrush heads dry. He decided that a kind of brush was needed to tell him how well they brushed their teeth.

Thomas says that o ne day, it’ll be possible to use a brushing unit with a camera. The camera can even

examine holes in your teeth while you brush.
