引文格式适当地纳入或引用别人的观点并不会使论文失去创新性，反而会说明论文的资料来源充足，有据可查，真实可靠。
引用要遵循以下规则：1）被直接引用的文字少于四行或少于大约40个词时，直接在原文内用双引号标明；被间接引用的话一般不用引号。
2）被直接引用的文字超过四行时，单独成段，引文不用引号，另起一行，左缩进10个空格打印。
例如：In the Chapter “My sea adventure” of Treasure Island, Stevenson gives a vivid account of the narrator’s adventurous walking alone for the “block-house” one dark night:Generally the night fell blacker; it was all I could do to guide myself evenroughly towards my destination; the double hill behind me and theSpy-glass on my right hand loomed faint and fainter; the stars were fewand pale; and in the low ground where I wandered I kept tripping amongbushes and rolling into sandy pits (146) .3）如果引用的是诗歌中的一行，则可以在论文正文中直接用引号引出；如果是两行，用“/”分开，斜线前后各空一格；如果是三行以上，则执行2）的格式。
例如：In the holy sonnet “Oh, to vet me, contraryes meete in one”, Donne laments his “inconstancy”as if it were extraordinary …(Achsah Guibbory, “John Donne”, English Poetry-Donne to Marvell, Ed. Thomas N. Corns, 130)…he explained with bitter, hyperbolic wit how he is “every dead thing, / In whom love wrought new Alchimie” (lines 12-13，p.139).4）不能改变引文中的拼写、标点等，要与原文保持完全一致，但如果希望省去一段引文中不重要或与论文关系不大的部分，则使用省略号。
