For many years, Hawaii has been a magic name to people who like to travel. People on both sides of the Pacific Ocean, in Japan and in America, dream of seeing these beautiful islands in the middle of a sunset over the ocean. In the tropical(热带的) lands, the sun drops, like a ball of golden fire into the sea, and it drops so quickly that you can almost see it move. The sun leaves behind a glow(光) that lights the skies and shines in the quiet water.
People often have a quiet, peaceful time ----perfect for a leisurely(悠闲地) walk along the water. This scene is not too different from the dramatic beauty that greeted the first strangers to these islands centuries ago. They were Polynesian people who came from Tahiti in canoes(独木舟) not much bigger than small boats.
They found the beautiful white sand beaches and the waving palm trees, but there were no giant hotels like the ones we see nowadays. The first people came to Hawaii nearly two thousand years ago, but skyscraper hotels were only built in the last 25 years. Now jet planes make it possible to fly to Hawaii for a weekend from Tokyo or San Francisco or Los Angeles. Wherever the people come from, they really want to see the original(原始的) beauty of Hawaii. They want to see the lovely beaches and the mountain called Diamond Head which is almost hidden by the tall hotels.

Children who see their parents drunk are twice likely to get drunk themselves, a survey of young teenagers has suggested. Poor parental supervision also raises the chances of teenage drinking, said the Joesph Rowntree Foundation. If parents don‟t know where their children are on a Saturday night, or let them watch films of violence, they are more likely to have had an alcoholic drink.
The survey also found the behavior of friends is also a powerful factor in drinking habits. The more time teenagers spend with friends, the more likely they are to drink alcohol.
In this survey of 5,700 children aged 13 to 16, carried out by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, researchers found that one in five wanted to have a drink by the time they were 14. By the age of 16, half of those questioned said they had been drunk.
Pamela Bremner, scientist of the survey, said, “For the first time in the UK, this study shows what most influences young people‟s drinking behavior.”
“It found that the behavior of friends and family is the most common influential factor in determining how likely and how often a young person will drink alcohol.”
Don Shenker, Chief Executive of Alcohol Concern, said, “Government ministers must also look at some of the causes of why it is so easy for children to get alcohol, usual ly from the home.”
“Governments should look to see if they‟ve done everything they can to help the large supermarkets from continuing to sell cheap alcohol which encourages more alcohol sales and therefore results in more alcohol being stored in the ho me.”
The Royal College of Physicians also said it was not surprising that being able to get alcohol easily was an important factor on current drinking problems and drunkenness of teenagers.
A statement said, “This shows that the government needs to focus more attention on increasing the price of alcohol, and increasing education and national campaigns for both young people and their families on the dangers of alcohol.”
64. How many teenagers admitted that they had been drunk in the survey carried out by the Joseph
Rowntree Foundation?
A. About 5700.
B. About 1200.
C. About 2800.
D. About 4200.
65. Who should be responsible for the fact that some teenagers formed the habit of drinking
besides their parents and friends, according to Don Shenker?
A. Their teachers.

C. Supermarkets.
D. Themselves.
66.Which methods can help reduce the chances of teenage drinking according to the passage?

At first sight, you would think the collection of hundreds of colored shards(碎片) could be a work of abstract (抽象的) art. But the objects are the contents of the stomach of a sea turtle that lost its battle with plastic pollution.
Environmentalists examined the stomach of the turtle found off the coast of Argentina. What they found is the symptom of the increasing threat to sea turtles from a human addiction to plastic.
Sea turtles often mistake plastic items for jellyfish or other food. Ingesting(摄取) ocean pollution can cause a digestive blockage (消化阻塞)and internal cuts. The result can be dangerous, followed by death.
Humans produce 260 million tons of plastic a year. When those products are pulled into the sea‟s currents, the plastics are just broken into smaller pieces which are consumed by marine life at the bottom of the food chain. An examination of a green turtle found off Florida discovered that, over the course of a month, the animal‟s faeces(粪便) had contained 74 foreign objects, including “four types of balloons, different types of hard plastic, a piece of carpet-like material and two 2-4 mm tar balls.”
“The oceans have become on giant refuse bin for all manners of plastics. All sea turtle spe cies may be seriously harmed. ” according to the biologists Colette Wabnitz, from the University of British Columbia. “The symptom of this growing crisis can be seen inside and on sea turtles as well as their oceanic and terrestrial habitats. It is urgently necessary to directly confront the source of plastic pollution, redesign packaging and rethink the very idea of …throwaway culture‟.”
Almost all marine (海中的) species, from plankton to whales, have ingested plastic. But, even in small quantities, plastic can kill sea turtles, the biologists said.
Fifty out of 92 turtles found dead, stranded on the shorelines of Rio Grande do Sul state in Brazil, had ing ested a “considerable amount of man-made debris”.
67. What‟s the passage mainly about?
A. How to prevent the sea turtle from plastic.
B. Why plastic is dangerous to the sea turtle.
C. Sea turtles suffering from plastic pollution.
D. Protecting the sea turtle from being polluted.
68. The author mentions the “throwaway culture” probably in a(n) ______ tone.
A. praising
B. positive
C. comedic
D. ironic
69. The underlined word in the last paragraph probably means __________.

B. some tips on how to make sea turtles avoid plastic
C. how to prevent plastic pollution
D. the reason why we should protect the sea turtle

How to Overcome the Sense of Failure
In the modern society, failure can be made to feel like the worst thing that could have ever
happened to a person. The fact is that failure is comm on. In this article, you‟ll learn a little about how to overcome failure through having the right attitude.
Expect mistakes. 71 To expect life to be always smooth (顺利) is not practical. Failure helps to create balance in your life and presents an opportunity for personal growth. Accept the fact that things won‟t always go your way. Learn to love finding out that you‟re wrong about something. That‟s not failure; it‟s the path to finding the right way.
72 Whatever you‟re feeling about a fa ilure, keep cool. Look at it this way --- it won‟t make any difference to the result itself whether you blow your top or stay calm, but it will take a lot less energy if you choose the latter response. If you‟re really angry, channel these emotions to motivate yourself to start again.
73 It‟s not good to bottle up feelings, but you can‟t take out your anger on those around you for no good reason. Go for a run or a swim to give yourself space to think. Just do something to distract (使分散注意力) yourself from the strong feelings until you calm down.
74 Not only will your failure soon be yesterday‟s news, but if you think other people are judging you, it won‟t be long before they‟re busy worrying about their own failures. After all, everyone is going to fail now and then. So does it really matter what others think?
Stop worrying, start laughing. The sun will come up again tomorrow. Things might be terrible for a little while but how will worrying help? Think back to a time when you worried a lot.
75 Most likely not, apart from giving you more wrinkles (皱纹) and gray hair. The greatest thing you can do for yourself during failure is to use humor.
A.Remain calm.
B.Don‟t take your anger out on others.
C.Life‟s hard knocks are as common as life‟s successes.
D.Forget about how other people view you.
E.Focus on trying again.
F.Did it make any difference?
G.It is a good thing to set out to do something that you know will fail.

In recent years many flowers shops have been appeared in our small town. It is common for people to buy flowers when they go to a gathering, visiting a sick friend, or attend a wedding or birthday party. I still remember clear one day last year when Tom, a disabled student, presented some flowers to his mother to express his gratitude for her. He owing his entire life to his mother‟s kind and care. With her he would not have had the confidence or the courage to fight his disability. As a result the great effort he has made, he was finally admitted to a key university.
