教学目的The students are expected to :
1.Learn to define Reading
2.Have a good understanding of The Purposes and Patterns of Reading
3.Grasp 3 Reading Abilities and Types of Reading Testing.
4.Know the correspondent reading abilities of each type of tests and what kind of types of tests should be given to different levels of reading skills.

Reading实质:
辨认单词(word recognition)
朗读(reading aloud)
Reading是理解和获取有关信息
性质:extracting the required information from a written text as efficiently as possible.
分辨Reading的意义
老师在课堂上叫一个学生拼读黑板上的单词“r-e-a-d,read”。
老师让学生们阅读小故事,然后回答问题。
Heaton's classification of reading abilities and 3 Reading abilities :
1.基本语法词汇概念
1)To recognise words and groups, associating with their corresponding graphic symbols.
2)To understand relations within the sentence,e.g.
(a) Elements of sentence structure
(b) Complex embedding
2.Micro Skills(语法词汇运用技能)
3)To deduce the meaning of words by
(a) understanding word formation
(b) contextual clues
4)To understand relations between parts of a text through both lexical
devices (e.g. repetition, synonyms) and grammatical cohensive devices, especially anaphoric and cataphoric refernce (e.g. they, he ; the former, the latter) and connectives (e.g. since, after, although, despite, moreover) 3.Micro Skills(篇章理解技能)
5)To understand explicitly stated information
6)To perceive temporal and spatial relationships, and also sequences of ideas;
7)To understand conceptual meaning,e.g.
(a) quantity and amount
(b) comparison and degree
(c) cause, result, purpose, reason, condition, addition, contrast, concession;
8)To anticipate and predict what will come next in the text.
9)To identify the main idea and other salient features in a text;
10)To generalise and draw conclusions;
11)To understand information not explicitly stated by
(a) making inferences (i.e. reading between the lines)
(b) understanding figurative language (e.g. simile, metaphor)
12)To skim and scan (looking for the general meaning and reading for specific information
13)To read critically (e.g. evaluating writing styles)
14)To adopt a flexible approach and vary reading strategies according to
