IV Books
1. Locate 1 book that is related to your group research. Borrow the book and photocopy only
the relevant chapters or pages.
2. Briefly describe how you know the book will be useful to your research.
V Conference proceedings
1. Look for 1 past conference on your research topic. Check whether conference proceedings
have been published. Make a photocopy of the relevant papers.
2. Briefly describe how you know the papers will be useful to your research.
VI Reflection
Find out the regulations and rules regarding copyright. Do you think research work may involve any
ethical issues?
After you have explored all of the above resources, you should have a better idea of:
1. where you can locate different reference materials in the library (at least at BU).
2. the differences between a journal article, a conference paper, a book chapter, a book, etc.
3. the characteristics of certain journals, for example, how often Babel publishes, what kind of
articles are published in Translation Quarterly, etc.
4. the on-line resources that are available for the study of translation, and also for your topic of
research.
If you are still unsure of any of the above items, repeat the search process again until you are
confident that you know where things are or how to find them.
