More on Confidence

Last weekend, I led several students to take part in

alone. I like the leisure when I am solitary. I like the

elegance comes from the demure. At that moment, the

entire world where I stood in, just belonged to me, the

only person; At that moment, all the things concluding

utility, grudges and love and hatred could be left behind

my mind temporarily; At that moment, the picture was

always sculptured in my brain, under the blue sky above

the horizon, just one person looks so desolate but

spectacular on the light of the setting sun. Thought

mired in philosophical problems. I thought , almost a

majority of poets and sages in the history must had

experienced it —solitude, rightly offering them enough

time and space to think. I paced though the familiar path and bypassed the

long- missed time, my felling met with the old days. The

rust on the guardrails told us the flying time. The sound

of the reading under the window shows the beauty of

the young people. Keeping with nature is just a

consolation for yourself which is created by human

beings’ unpredictable to future, even the wisest great

minds. The typical one is On Confidence written by

Emerson who benefitted from it and became the

originator of Transcendentalism. When studying before

the library, but dating back to the past seven years—Seven is a special number. Why does a week is made of

seven days? Why do seven miracles appear in the world?

Why does the visible sun light was thought to be seven

sorts of lights with different colors？etc. —looking so

pure and sentimental, I wrote the passage titled On

Confidence with slightly childish words to express a

sentimental boy’s puzzle during the puberty. The feeling

in my heart changed when I faced the same theme in

the same place at different time.

Seven years ago, due to my limited experience and

the fulfilled traditional beliefs, I regarded moral as a powerful and misterious thing, which can calm all the

disputes and bridge all the gaps. So it must make inferior

find confidence back. Seven years later, due to my

further experience and the influence of foreign beliefs,

which cruelly tear moral’s misterious coat that rulers

used to maintain society and control civilians. That is to

say, its essence is a nihility that can’t find in the

objective world. Therefore, Kant would prefer this

sentence as his epitaph—There are two things, one is

the mighty sky above our heads, the other is the moral

in our hearts. And the longer and deeper we think, the

more typical the reverence aroused from my heart.

Because of the fantasy of moral, such wise philosophers

faced it with extreme deference and fear. Now that

confidence isn’t the reason why moral comes into being.

What’s the reason on earth?

After getting through a plenty of things in the seven

years, I thought that I have found the answer—superiority. That’s the superiority exists in my own

situation comparing with others. I can be divided into

two categories which are called material superiority and

spiritual superiority. Firstly, the material superiority mainly focuses on the external objective factors

including one person’s family, education, status and

wealth. etc. For instance, a wealthy young man can

easily find confidence in a group of people who drive

BYD, while they also easily feel lost for the passing

Bugattis. At the same case, a graduate from Peking

University can freely show their confidence before a

group of graduates from Yingtan Vocational and

Technical College, while it quickly disappears surrounded

by the honor of Haward. This shows that material

superiority plays a significant role in forming confidence.

Secondly, it’s spiritual superiority that ZhouGuoping

explained thoroughly. He said, there are two categories

of confidence: one is the independence in personality

accompany with looking down upon secular public

opinions and utility, the other is the arrogance in the

sense, always being very full of self. In my view, the

source of the two categories of confidence interprets

what spiritual superiority is in a good way.

When it comes to the categories of confidence, I

can’t comment them. Just like the saying in philosophy

that there are merely one step between truth and
