Teaching isn’t just giving information
A point of view that almost all people believe is
that teaching is just teachers give information to
the students. So the teacher’s role is giving
information and students’ role is getting
information. Don’t believe that, it is just
according to information process approach, not the
other approaches.
Firstly, according to constructive approach,
teaching is not only giving information. This approach
suggests that learning means learners construct their
own meaning. Therefore, teachers’ role is not only
giving information. A teacher is a facilitator for the
students’ individual exploration. For instance, the
teacher chooses a task that is appropriate to
students’ cognitive level, and can be meaningful for
the students. The students can have their own
exploration. Additionally, the students’ roles isn’t
only getting information from the teachers, and
construct their own meaning. In short, teaching isn’t
just giving information.
Secondly, according to humanist approach, leaning
isn’t just giving and getting information, so teaching
either. This approach suggests that a teacher should
educate the whole person, not just giving information
without caring students emotions, and feelings. So the
teachers’ role is to care about students’ everything
when giving information. Moreover, the teachers need
to let student’ know those information are beyond here
and now. in short, a teacher should also care about
students’ feeling,emotion and interest when
presenting information.
Third, according to social interaction, teaching
isn’t just giving information. Because this approach
believes that learning isn’t just one person transmits
to another. This approach says learners construct
knowledge by social communication. For example, since
a child has been born, the child began to learn from
social interaction and social communication. Therefore,
a teachers’ role is let students communicate, and
discuss in order to learn and get information. All in
all, teaching isn’t only teachers only giving
information to students.
In summary, according to constructive, humanism,
and social interaction, teaching isn’t only giving
information. Teaching is also that care about
students’ feeling and emotion, and that lets find
information by many different ways.
