On American Civil War Abstract：American Civil War is a large-scale civil war in American history. The south to provoke a war, finally to the north in victory. The abolition of slavery is a kind of inevitable trend. But, it did not completely eliminate racial discrimination, black is still subject to unequal treatment. The civil war also is a necessary war. It tells us that National unity is the important guarantee for thriving and prosperous. Key words: The Civil War the abolition of slavery national unity.

American Civil War is a large-scale civil war in American history. The War lasted four years from 1862 to 1865.Both sides of the civil war is the United States of America ( referred to as federal ) and the Confederate States of America ( referred to as the Confederate ). The main contradiction of the two sides is "slavery abolishment." The south to provoke a war, finally to the north in victory. In the course of the war, both sides each have their own advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of the South are active preparation, military, superior military leadership fighting on its own soil. But it’s disadvantage is lack of capital or industry. The advantages of the North are a large population, industry superiority, abundant facilities for manufacture of arms ammunition clothing and supplies railroads, merchant marines and great wealth. The civil war was triggered by the Lincoln was elected president of the United States in 1861. The causes of the civil war in addition to Lincoln's election, there are Economic Conflict, Abolition Movement, Missouri Compromise, Kansas—Nebraska Act, Formation of the Two Major Parties. The final result of the civil war was: Lincoln promulgated "the Homestead Act" and "the Emancipation Proclamation" in 1862.And then American history came to another period. In my opinion, the abolition of slavery is a kind of inevitable trend. Before the civil war, in nineteenth Century, the United States territory gradually from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast expansion. The northern and the southerner’s economy start to change. The North started to operate the maritime trade, expanding the shipping industry. But in the south, mainly engaged in cotton plantations, this requires a large number of slaves. However, with the development of capitalism, the North requires a large amount of free labor. Free labor not only can improve the strength of the United States, can make even the slaves divorce from the unfair fate. However, Although the civil war make the United States become prosperous, but it did not completely eliminate racial discrimination, black is still subject to unequal treatment. So I think the civil war give the Negroes the hope of to change the fate, then please continue to give them the real equality. Besides, the civil war also is a necessary war. As a nation, the most important is the territorial unity, reunification of the country. As the disputes become more and more obvious, the North-South integration is inevitable trend. And this trend make the United States becomes a real country, has a complete, inalienable territory. develop more rapidly in every field .Three decades after the war the United States led world in industry .It also extended its far-reaching influence to the European revolutions.”1 it tells us that National unity is the important guarantee for thriving and

prosperous. “ In 1997 October, Chinese president to visit the United States in the early acceptance of the United States" time" magazine interview said: the United States Civil War is for the unification of the country and not because of human rights. “2 The words immediately called in American public opinion. But I think, if there is no civil war’s victory, the United States may be split into two or more countries, the history also will be completely rewritten. So no matter what people has how different guessing of the civil war's purpose, its meaning is very profound. To sum up , American Civil War is an important battle in the history. it is also the second bourgeois revolution in American History, it makes the national unity, abolished slavery, further to remove the obstacles to the development of capitalism, and paved the way for The United States capitalist economic. And the United States quickly become industrialized powerful nation. So we also got a more important conclusion, national unity is the important guarantee for thriving and prosperous.
