Group work:Ask the students to talk about the different kinds of clubs:

(1)What do you like to do after school?

After a few minutes, ask the groups to make a report in front of the class.

T:What can we do in the acting group?

S5:We can meet lots of new people.

Step 2.Presentation

1.Lead the students to learn the new words and expressions.Ask them to make

sentences with the new words and expressions.

T:What club do you want to join?

S1:I like to play chess.I want to join the chess club.

2.Work in pairs.Try to make dialogues with the new words, expressions and

patterns:join, improve, skill, meeting, act, useful, role, team, shape, level, pool, make

friends, at the same time, role play games, enjoy doing, stay in shape, all different

levels.Then ask some pairs to act them out.

S8:I want to stay in shape.What club should I join?

S9:You should join the swimming club.

S8:Why?

S9:Because swimming is good exercise.You can make friends at the same time.

S8:Very good.I will join the swimming club.What do you enjoy doing?

S9:I enjoy acting.

S8:It’s a useful skill.You can improve your skills by practicing every day.

Step 3.Practice

1.Retell the story.Work in groups.Show some pictures of different kinds of

clubs.Ask the students to retell the text.

Choose the best groups and praise them.

2.Work in groups.Ask the students to say something about their favourite clubs.

After a few minutes, ask some groups to make reports in front of the class.

3.Work in groups:Ask the students to make sentences with the language

points.Teacher knows whether the students understand the language points from their

Exercise 1 is listening practice.Ask the students to finish it in class.Exercise 2 is

reading part.Ask the students to finish Exercises 2 and Exercise 3 by themselves.Then

Work in groups.Discuss the questions below and present your answers to the

class.
