After all, there are thirteen volumes in the Oxford English Dictionary, and that leaves you with nine. ”46How does the writer feel about taking picture books from a little girl?A. This short story tells us that____.A. failure is the mother of success.B. What you do not wish done to yourself, do not to others.C. We should put others first and ourselves last.D. Everything is hard in the beginning.Passage TwoWhat is exactly a lie? Is it anything we say which we know is untrue? Or is it something more than that? For example, suppose a friend wants to borrow some money from you, you say: “I wish I could help you but I’m short of money myself.” In fact, you are not short of money, but your friend is in the habit of not paying his debts and you don’t want to hurt his feeling by reminding him of this. Is this really a lie?A scientific study of lying shows women are better liars than men, particularlyshe likes her dress when she really thinks it looks terrible. However, this is only one side of the story. Other researches show that men are more likely to tell more serious lies, such as making a promise which they have no intention of fulfilling. This is the kind of lie politicians and businessman is supposed to be particularly skilled at: the lie from which the liar hopes to profit or gain in some way.Research has also been done into the way people’s behavior changes in a number of small, apparently unimportant ways when they lie. It has been found that if they are sitting down at the same time, they tend to move about in their chairs more than usual. To the trained observer they are saying “I wish I were somewhere else now.”51. This passage tells us that ____.A. telling lies is often necessary in order to avoid being defeated.B. telling lies is often bad because people ought not to be dishonest.C. telling lies is something necessary in order not to hurt someone else’s feelings.D. telling lies is not bad at all in most cases.52. in passage 2, the sentence” women are better liars than men do.” Probably means”____”A. women are better at telling lies than men.B. women liars are better accepted than men.C. women have a better intention when telling lies.D. women tell fewer lies than men do.53. A white lie means______A. a lie that is completely unbelievableB. a lie that is told with a good willC. a lie that is always believableD. a lie that often has an evil purpose54. Politicians and businessman are supposed to be skilled at telling the kind of lies______A. from which they may gain some advantagesB. that seems to be believableC. that women are most likely to believeD. with which they can have better relation with others55. it can be conclude from the passage that______A. there is simple way finding out if someone is lyingB. from some ways people behave we can know they are lyingC. certain emotions are roof of lyingD. in some situation women is most likely to think businessmen are dishonestPassage ThreeYouth is not a matter of time but a matter of self-improvement, both physically and morally. Being a good youth, one should have those factors: the basic one is health. A healthy body is a kind of priceless treasure. One can do nothing without it. Secondly, we should pay essential attention to our moral character. We should be always willing to help those in trouble without any complaints. Moreover, we should care more about the people around us. Thirdly, cooperation and communication also play an important role in being a good youth. No one can live alone without any friends. And nobody can work out every problem without help of partners. So the youth should and must learn how to live and work well with others, including those people you don’t like to cooperate or communicate with. The last but not the least, patriotism, meaning a love of one’s country, is the one we should never forget. People always misunderstand the word “patriots” by thinking it only refers to those fighters who fight for their country. As a matter of fact, a patriot will do the things his country asks him to do. So being a youth is one thing, being a good one really needs to take every effort to make yourself to be.56. The passage really wants to tell us that ________.A) what the meaning of “patriots” isB) the qualities a good youth should haveC) a youth should be doing goodD) one should help others57. The first thing a good youth should have isB)the best richesC) the good abilityD)a healthy body58. A good youth should help othersA) willinglyB) at his convenienceC) if he wants toD) with complains59 From the passage, we can know that cooperation and communication areA) good for some introvertsB) helpful to usC) important to everyoneD) not necessary to good friends60. In the author’s opinion, the patriots mustA) fight for the countryB) learn everythingC) do what their country need them to doD)protect their family and country Passage FourDirections: There is an invitation letter below here. The main reasons are as follows:Nowadays we students have too many examinations, some of which are too difficult for students to deal with. On the other hand, some students ar e lazy and don’t work hard at their lessons. So when taking examinations, they sometimes cheat in order to get better results to make their parents and teachers pleased. In my opinion, it is wrong to cheat in examinations because it breaks the rules of schools. As students we should be honest and try to get good results by studying hard instead of cheating in examinations. What’s more, we can do well in examinations by improving our study methods and getting well prepared for examinations.2011年安徽省初中毕业学业考试英语模拟试卷(四)参考答案及听力材料(第2 页,共4 页)2011年安徽省初中毕业学业考试英语模拟试卷(四)听力材料Ⅰ.
