Unit 3 Under the Sea Warming-up & Reading
Teaching Material:
This unit is about the world under the sea. By studying of this unit, we’ll
Enable the students to know the plants and animals under the sea, and learn
about how they live. At the same time, let the students learn to protect oceanic
species. This lesson plays an important part in the English teaching in this unit.
From this lesson, Ss can know more about the under-sea species and their
reading ability will be practiced.
Part 1 Teaching aims
1. Knowledge objects:
TO grasp the following words,
anecdote,annual,witness,accommodation,shore,yell,pack,flee,
drag,depth,lip,abandon,relationship,seaside,net,dimension,ref
lect,pure,cell,aware,vivid,narrow,sharp,tasty,scare,shallow,
awesome,seal,pension,pensioner,help out,be/become aware of,upsi
de down,be scared to death,etc..

2 .Ability objects:

(1) To develop the Ss’ abilities of speaking and reading.
(2) To train the Ss’ ability of working in pairs.
(3) To improve the student’s reading ability, especially their skimming and
scanning ability.
3. Emotion or moral objects:
a) By completing the task, the Ss increase their interest and set up
self-confidence in reading;

b) Let the Ss have the sense of protecting the oceanic species.
Part 2 Teaching Methods:
The main instructional aims of learning English in the Middle School is to
develop the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their
good sense of the English language. So in this lesson I’ll mainly use
“Communicative” Approach “Whole language teaching” and “Task-based”
language teaching
Part 3 Studying Methods:
1. Guide the Ss to grasp the main idea of the text.
2. Let the Ss master how to communicate with others.
Part 4 Teaching Procedure:
Step 1 Lead-in.
Show some pictures to let them know the plants and animals under the sea.
Step 2 Reading
1) Scanning: Read the material fast to find out the right names
2). Intensive reading: Put the sentences into right order.
3). Further understanding: Grasp the text ‘s detail.
Step3 Homework.
Summarize the whole lesson, and arrange the homework.
1) Finish Ex.1 and Ex. 2, Page22.
2) Review the new words
