It is commonly accepted that men and women have different advantages and

disadvantages. Therefore, there may indeed be arguments for allowing certain fields to

remain majority male or female. From my perspective, it is not fair to exclude males or

females from certain post due to their gender. Both men and women should be given

freedom to choose their career.

There is no doubt that the majority of employees in some areas are single-sex. For

instance, women are considered to be patient, so most of the nurses and primary school

teachers are women. Similarly, certain jobs like construction workers require a great deal

of physical strength. Thus, it is rational that these occupations should be done mainly by

men.

However, making vocation more open to both genders has profound benefits. A study

shows that cooperation between the genders create a better working atmosphere.

Besides, some jobs may suit males or females better. Female programmer, for example,

may be more careful so that they can finish their tasks better. Male nurses probably have

a better understanding of the needs of male patients and they may have more energy so

that they are more able to adapt to working at night.

Exclusion has many negative effects on society, which will damage technological

development. As a result, in order to benefit the most from this development, gender

equality should be encouraged. Both men and women are supposed to choose their

occupations based on individual preference. An increasing number of vocations are

expected to more open to both male and female.
