Unit 4 Where’s my backpack?
The main contents:
The contents of this unit are talking about where things are. Students will learn
some prepositions of positions, such as on, in, under ect, and they should be
told how to use these words to describe the positions of different things. They
will also learn to ask the places with the sentences Where is/are….
Teaching aims:
Learn some prepositions of place, such as on, in, under ect, and use them to discuss
the location of objects. Inquire students to use where to find the location of
objects.
Difficulties and focus:
1. Master the Where questions;
2. Learn the preposition of place: on, in, under and behind.
Emotion, attitudes and value:
Make students have interest and the desire of learning, and happy to participate
in various English activities; Make students help each other in groups and
cooperate actively with others to complete learning tasks. Help students set up
long-range ideals.
Teaching time: Five periods.
The first period
Contents: Section A 1a, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b, 2c.

Procedures:
Step 1: Revision
1. Present tense to be and what questions. ( number; concord )
2. Practice the following conversations:
A: What’s this in English? B: It’s a backpack.
A: What color is it? B: It’s black.
A: What are these in English? B: They are books.

A: What color are they? B: They are blue.
Cf: It is…. and They are …. ( concord )
Step 2: Introduce the key vocabulary
1. Read the words at the left of Part 1a, ask students to repeat, and then
let the students guess the words meanings.
2. Ask students to match the words with the objects in the picture.
3. Ask questions, such as Where’s the backpack? Or Where are the books?
Help students to answer the questions.
4. Check the answers: 1. e 2. j 3. c 4. d 5. I 6. h 7. g 8. a 9. b
10. f 11. l 12. k
Step 3: Listening practice
1. Play the tape of Part 1b, and get students to listen and write the numbers,
then finish the task of Part 1b.
2. Play the tape of Part 2a, and get students to choose the things they have
heard and number them, then finish the task of Part 2a.
3. Play the tape of Part 2a again, and get students to match the things with
the nouns and number them, then finish the hearing-training task of Part
2b.
Step 5: Pair work
Get students to do pair work, complete the teaching task of Part 1c;LEARN
TO USE SENTENCE STRUCTURE: Where is… ? It is ….or Where are … ? They
are …. Position prepositions on, in, under to express the location of
objects.

There is a lot of hearing practice in this unit, in which
the skill of listening to key words is needed. The key words are the most crucial
information.
