物理机械手段包括桶式、悬挂式、折叠式等多种形式。
对运行中的管线改线，有不停输改线和停输改线两种方式；不停输改线通常采用管线不停输封堵技术与设备，先将改线段两端分别用旁通管接通，以旁通线输送介质，然后封堵主管线，主管线可进行任意改造施工作业，待新管段与主管线连头后，解除封堵，切换至新管段正常输送，最后将旁通撤除。
