Unit 8 Detective stories重难点精讲The police believe that the murder took place between 9 p.m. last night and 1 a.m. this morning.句子中police是集体名词，常被视为复数，所以谓语动词也要用复数形式。

常见的集体名词还有：people, cattle, crew（队、全体人员、全体成员）等。

My family _____ a large one.我家是个大家庭。

My family ______ all workers.我的家人都是工人。

The police believe that the murder took place between 9 p.m. last night and 1 a.m. this morning.take place 表示“发生、举行、举办”，一般指非偶然性事件的“发生”，即这种事件的发生一定有某种原因或事先的安排。

题一：翻译：1.警察正在找Peter。

2.在过去的十年间，中国发生了巨大的变化。

He was charged with breaking into several computer sy stems over the last year.charge sb. with是“控告某人犯有（某种罪行）”的意思。

break into的意思是“闯入、破门而入”。

We suppose that the victim knew his murderer.句中suppose是“想象一下如果……”或者“假定……”的意思，引导宾语从句。

这里that可以省略，只说suppose就可以。

题二：翻译：1.警察控告他犯抢劫罪。

2.盗贼非法进入银行盗取了保险箱。

3.我猜想我们下周将会去那儿。
