The Report of the Chinese Adult Health Survey
Abstract:
According to the data of the Chinese economic, population, nutrition, and
health survey (2006 adult) questionnaire). We find that the entire health condition of
Chinese adults is OK. There is no difference in the age of people between the health
status. Looking into the several chronic diseases, we can find that some diseases have
relationship with the age of people, and get some detailed information about the each
chronic disease.
Background:
With the increase of the economic, people become more and more wealth. But
we gradually find that some chronic disease become more and more widespread such
as hypertension, mellitus, and so on. In this case, I want to find that whether the true
result is like that we observed. The data come from the Chinese economic, population,
nutrition, and health survey (2006 adult questionnaire). The questionnaire consists of
several components, which is geographic, work activities, household chores and child
care, tobacco, tea, water, caffeine, alcohol, and soft drink consumption, current
functioning, use of health service, health status, diet and activity acknowledge
ever-married women under age 52,and physical measurement. Of course, I can not use
all of the data. I only choose several component of the survey to find the result.
1 The entire phenomena of the Chinese adult health.
We use the data from the component of health status. The first is people’s
subjective evaluation about their health status compared to their same ages. The
answer has five chooses, which are 1 excellent, 2 good, 3 faire, 4 poor and 9 unknown.
Through analyzing the data, we can get the following result.
chooses frequency percent
excellent 1182 12.09
good 4522 46.25
fair 3258 33.22
poor 750 7.67 unknown 66
0.67
We can see that more than half of the people feel that their health is as least as
good as other people in their age. Maybe the result is not so believable because people
always ignore the ailments, and think that they are healthy.
Then we come to the second question. During the past 3 months have you had
any difficulty carrying out your daily?
The answers are yes, no and unknown. The follow is the result (that does not
include the unknown).
Question
Question 1
2 excellent good fair poor
no 1160 4401 2947 409
yes 16 98 305 321
We can see that people say “fair” in the question 1 take almost the same portion of
the people say “poor” in the question 1. We can guess that people in the question may
lie.
You may want to know that whether there is difference between the people’
healthy condition and the category of whether they the disease influence their life. In
this case, I use the chi-squared test of a contingency table.
The p-value is 0.
So we can conclude that there is enough evidence to infer that there is not
difference in people’s age between people health condition.
Then we look the survey result of several chronic diseases.
2 The result of high blood pressure.
2.1 The basic condition of hypertension among Chinese adults.
Hypertension (HTN) or high blood pressure, sometimes called arterial
hypertension, is a chronic medical condition in which the blood pressure in the
arteries is elevated. This requires the heart to work harder than normal to circulate blood through the blood vessel. In 2006, almost 10.06% adult have the high blood
pressure among Chinese adults, and the average time of people since they get the
disease till now is 8.47 year.
The little information sounds like a little amazing, then we go on some work
about more detailed information.
2.2 The relationship between the time of people who have the high blood
pressure and the age of the people.

We can see that the relationship is positively related.
It means that if the person is older and he may be in terms of the high blood
disease longer time. Maybe you will say that it is obvious, but we can conjecture
that most people get high blood pressure when they are not old. It is a pity that we
don’t have the date about when people get high blood pressure. If have, we can test
the prediction.
2.3 The average age of people who take anti-hypertension and who not take
anti-hypertension among the people who have high blood pressure.
