Good morning, everyone. Change occurs in physicals, emotional and intellectual realms, resulting in altered perspectives for those who experience and respond to it. TodayI am going to talk about two texts, the Minority Report written by Phillip K. Dick and the TED talk which is spoken by Raghava KK. First of all, I want to ask everyone a question, should we bring our phone to the classroom? If you say “No”, you are right, we need to focus on what the teacher said in class so that we can understand the lesson and a phone will distract you. If you say ‘’YES’’ you are right as well, the phone can help you translate the words easier. Both of the answers are right. It is also according to the growing experience to individual people. If a child got high education, he will use his time well on his phone, if a child playing games a lot in his childhood, he may play on his phone during class, which means the intellectual can influence the perspective a lot, children will have different decisions with different thoughts. This is the main thing that I want to talk about today, the necessity to change perspective. The Minority report is a short story written by Phillip K. Dick. It leads us from shallow explanation like influence of technology to the deeper comprehending like free will, ethic and more things. The background of the whole story is that there are three people can know the crimes will happen in the future and the people work in the system can stop these crimes so that there will be no crime will happen in the society. However, one day, there are three special report comes out. These reports are ready for the system worker Anderton. The first report said Anderton killed Kaplan which is a crime, the second report said Anderton knows Kaplan’s plan and doesn’t k ill her, and the last report said after he saw the second report, he changed his mind and decide to kill Kaplan. All three reports are different, although the conclusion of two of them are the same, they are exploringthe things in the different time lines. The third report makes the second one invalid able, the second one makes the first one invalid able, so the third one is the most accurate because there is not a fourth one to invalid it. These special examples will only happen to the person work in the system because they are the only people can see the reports. Anderton changes his perspective when he saw the second and third report, he is hesitating on kill Kaplan or not. With the develop of the story, the audiences’ perspective is also changing following. Meanwhile, the repe tition is used in the story. “He had never killed a man he had never even seen a man killed” The twice use “killed” emphasize a fear of killing Andertons faced. The use of the foreshadow ing in Page 3 “When Andertons was describing the mechanism and purpose of the Precrime to his new assistance Witwer” also improves the development of the plot.In the beginning of the speech TED TALK, Raghava KK uses the e-book “Pop-it” as an introduction, and explores the easiest way to change perspe ctive.“Pop-it” teaches children to change perspectives by shaking the ipad to get three different families. Then, he talked about his own childhood, and this leads to the things he mainly wants to say, the importance of teaching children multiple perspectives. When he was 13 years old, his five years old neighbour came to him and said “Rags, Hindus are killing us Muslims” T his was the first time that his neighbourviewed their life in different perspectives. At first he thinks there are only Muslims in India but after the communal unrest, he finds that there are Hindus as well. If the communal unrest didn’t happen, the neig hbour may not know there is more than one religion in the world. This example also shows the essentiality of changing perspectives, if you only stay where you begin, your sights will be very short and this is not good for yourself, instead, you can widen their sights and learn more new things. In the TED TALK speech, Raghava KKalso uses a lot of techniques to make the speech fuller. For example, he uses Rhetorical question” Remember that children’s book where you shake and the sexuality of theparents change?” It leads to the next things he wants to talk about, when he shakes the book, the picture in the book will change to another people’s perspective. And he also uses colloquial language which is “I am like, Dude, I am Hindu” to make himself become more rapport to the audience. Comparing to these two texts, the Minority Report changes audience’s perspective by emotional way. The ups and down plots use in the story leads the audience keep changing perspective with the develop of the story. The TED TALK change audience’s perspective by intellectual way, he uses few examples like pictures to make the audiences change their way of thinking. All in all, there are many ways to let people change their perspective. Changing perspective is not only analysis one question with multiple views, but also can widen our sights and thoughts. Once we know the importance of changing perspective, we can see more connotation from a simple problem.。
