Step 2 Lead-in
Ask Ss the following questions by having them
focus on the title of the article,’Boy
missing,police puzzled’:
(1)What information can you get from the
title?
(2)How/When/Where was the boy missing?
(3)Can you guess what details may be covered
in the following news story?
Step 3 Reading
1.Ask the Ss to skim the passage and then
find the answers to the questions in Part A.
2.Play the tape for the Ss to listen to . Have
the Ss read the article again .Cover the
following points:
(1) When was the boy found missing?
(2) Where did these events occur?
(3)What caused the boy’s sudden
disappearance?
(4) How old was the boy?
(5) Why did people show interest in his
disappearance?
Focus on the title
of the article and
think over the
questions .
Skim the article to
find out the
answers.
Read the article
carefully to get the
detailed
information.

3.Have Ss scan the article again and locate specific
information for Parts C1 and C2. Part C2
requires students to identify details in support of
the main points of the story.
4.Have Ss evaluate how well they understand and
comprehend the article by filling in the following
table.

Step 4 Reading strategy
1.Have Ss pay attention to the different features of
each paragraph. Ask the Ss to describe the
