张家口的历史张家口旧名张垣，曾名喀拉干（蒙古语），张家口市位于河北省西北部，北接内蒙古自治区，南连保定市，东邻北京市，东北与承德市相连，西与山西省接壤，是京包线上重要的城市之一，也是京张高速公路的终点，境内也有丹拉高速公路，是河北与内蒙古自治区交通要冲，是连通中国西北、蒙古和北京的重要通道和货物集散地、军事要地与陆路商埠。
