【课题】 Unit 5 What were you doing when the rainstorm came?
【学习目标】
1、知识目标：学习并能够运用以下新单词：storm, wind, light, report, area, wood,
window, match, beat, against, asleep, rise, fallen, kid, realize 能够运用以下短语：have a look, fall asleep, die down, make one’s way。掌握when和while 的用法，继续学习巩固过去进行时的构成及用法。
2、能力目标：学生能够用过去进行时谈论过去发生的事情，能够正确运用when和while与at the time of引导的时间状语从句初步交谈过去进行的事。
3、学习策略：学会通过看提示预测问题的答案，通过与小组同学交流讨论，总结归纳3a的故事发展过程，进行复述。
4、情感态度：能够谈论3a文章内容及自己对灾难使民心凝聚的理解。通过和同学合作对话，了解彼此过去正在进行的生活，促使学生积极参与英语实践活动。
【学习重点
难点】 1、when 和while 引导的时间状语从句的用法
2、能用过去进行时态正确复述3a课文的内容
3、能初步交谈过去进行的事,学习了解过去进行时的构成及用法。
【教学过程】
I. Pre-class
1、翻译下列短语：

2、知识超市：
（1）realize作及物动词，有“认识到”“领悟到”等含义，此时通常不用于被动式和进行式。 realize可表示“使(希望、目的、恐惧等)实现”。
（2）mess的相关词组
be in a mess 乱七八糟 get into a mess 陷入困境，遇到麻烦
make a mess of 把……弄糟 mess up 搞乱，弄脏，弄糟
（3）against的用法
与动词连用表示“紧靠、压 迫”，有时不必译出。
表示“反对”或“反抗”与介词with意思相近。不过用against 比用with的语气强，着重表示在困难中斗争或反抗的意思。
表示相反，有“逆行，逆„方向，对着；跟„反方向”的意思。也有“反对”的意思，与“for”意思相反。表示“预防、防备、违背”的意思，against one's will 违心地，违背意愿地。

【教学过程】
（4）With no light outside, it felt like midnight.
此句中介词with表示一种伴随状况，同时还包含着某种因果关系，表示“因某种状况的存在而导致……”, 因此可翻译成“由于；因为”等。
e.g.I can’t work with all that noise going on.
由于那噪音响着，我无法工作。
（5）Ben’s dad… , while his mom was making sure the flashlights and radio were
working.
1) 此句中的连词while的意思是 “当……的时候；和……同时”，while还可以表示“而；然而；但”之意，用来说明和强调两种事情或情形不同。
e.g. Tom is active and outgoing while his sister Rosa is shy and quiet.
汤姆活跃外向，而他的妹妹罗莎却害羞腼腆。
2) make sure“确认，查明，核实；确保；设法保证”，其后可接句子，或接介词 of及宾语，用来引入需要确认的内容。
e.g. Could you make sure what time he’s arriving?
你能确认一下他几点到达吗？
Make sure you turn off the TV before you leave the house. 在你离开屋子前确认关闭了电视。
3) 此句中的work表示机器，器官等 “运作，运转”，这是动词work的一种基本 用法。
e.g. My watch is waterproof----that means it would work fine even if it’s in water.
我的手表是防水的— 这就是说即便在水里它也会正常运转。
(6) It was hard to have fun with a serious storm happening outside.
It is adj. + to do sth. 做……怎么样。
It is adj. for sb. to do sth. 对某人来说做……怎么样。
e.g. It is important for us to learn English.
对我们来说学英语很重要。
(7)He finally fell asleep when the wind was dying down at around 3:00 a.m.
fall asleep 进入梦乡，睡着
asleep adj. 睡着
1)区别sleepy, asleep & sleep
sleepy是形容词，可意为 “困倦的；瞌睡的”，可作定语和表语。
如： I’ll go to bed. I’m sleepy. 我要去睡觉了。我困了。
asleep是形容词，意思是“睡着的”，强调状态，常作表语。短语fall asleep意为“入睡；睡着”。
如： Grandma fell asleep when watching TV. 奶奶看电视时睡着了。
sleep可作动词，意为 “睡觉”，也可作名词，意为“睡眠；睡觉”。
如： My father is sleeping. Please keep quiet. 我父亲在睡觉，请保持安静。
2)die down逐渐变弱，逐渐平息
e.g. When you saw him, his anger had died down a bit. 你看见他的时候，他的火气3 / 5 已经下去了。
