1. When (1)引导的时间状语既可指时间点,也可指时间段,动词可以是非延续性的,也可以是延续性的。When the girl came in, her
mother was cleaning the room. (2) 如果主句用过去进行时、从句用一般过去时,表示一个动作正在进行时另一个动作(突然)发生了。A boy was walking along the street when it began to rain.
2. while (1)引导的时间状语从句只指时间段,动词必须是延续性动词。While he was eating, his mother came in. (2)从句和主句的动作都是延续的或同时发生的,两句都用过去进行时的时候,多用while引导。While Mary was writing, Sam was playing.
