Let's get started!二、Travel ExperienceTraveling is one of my favorite pastimes as it allows me to explore different cultures, meet new people, and broaden my horizons. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to visit various countries, each providing unique experiences and memories.Firstly, I had the opportunity to backpack across Southeast Asia. The breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and mouthwatering cuisine in countries like Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia left a lasting impression on me. I particularly enjoyed immersing myself in the vibrant street markets, trying exotic fruits, and engaging in conversations with locals.Additionally, I have also traveled extensively in Europe. The architecture and art in cities such as Paris, Barcelona, and Rome are truly awe-inspiring. One of my most memorable experiences was witnessing the majestic beauty of the Northern Lights in Iceland. It was a surreal moment that I will cherish forever.Traveling not only allows me to appreciate different cultures but also helps me develop valuable life skills. It has taught me to be adaptable, open-minded, and resilient in the face of unexpected situations. Exploring unfamiliar territories and interacting with people from diverse backgrounds has also improved my communication skills and broadened my global perspective. In conclusion, my travel experiences have been incredibly enriching. They have allowed me to learn about the world and myself. I believe that travel is one of the greatest teachers, and I look forward to continuing my adventures in the future.三、Environmental ProtectionEnvironmental protection is a pressing global issue that requires immediate attention. To address this challenge, it is crucial for individuals, communities, and governments to work together and implement sustainable practices to mitigate the negative impacts on our planet.Firstly, individuals can actively contribute to environmental protection by adopting eco-friendly habits in their everyday lives. Simple actions such as reducing water consumption, conserving energy, recycling waste, and using public transportation or carpooling can make a significant difference. Additionally, being mindful of our carbon footprint and making responsible choices in terms of consumption and food waste can also contribute to a greener future.Communities play a vital role in environmental protection through collective efforts. Organizing clean-up campaigns, planting trees, and promoting sustainable practices within neighborhoods can create a positive impact. Education and awareness programs are also essential in fostering asense of responsibility towards the environment among community members, especially the younger generation.Governments hold a significant responsibility in enacting policies and regulations that promote sustainable development. From social media to video conferencing, these advancements have made the world a smaller and more interconnected place. One of the most significant benefits of technology in communication is its ability to bridge geographical barriers. With platforms such as Skype, Zoom, and WhatsApp, we can communicate with our loved ones, colleagues, and friends regardless of their location. This has strengthened relationships and facilitated global collaborations in various fields. Moreover, social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have become powerful tools for sharing information, ideas, and experiences. They have enabled individuals to express their thoughts, raise awareness about important issues, and connect with like-minded individuals. However, it is crucial to use these platforms responsibly and be aware of potential challenges such as online privacy and online bullying.Technology has also revolutionized business communication. With email, instant messaging, and project management tools, teams can collaborate efficiently, regardless of their physical location. This has opened up opportunities for remote work and improved productivity on a global scale. However, while technology has brought many benefits to communication, it is essential to strike a balance between virtual interactions and face-to-face communication. Despite the convenience, nothing can replace the warmth and personal connection of meeting someone in person. In conclusion, technology has transformed the way we communicate, making the world more interconnected. While it has brought numerous advantages, we must also be mindful of the potential pitfalls and ensure that we maintain genuine human connections in this digital age.五、Globalization and Cultural DiversityGlobalization has significantly impacted cultural diversity around the world. While it has fostered a more interconnected global community, it has also posed challenges to preserving unique cultural identities and traditions. One of the positive aspects of globalization is the exchange and diffusion of ideas, values, and traditions. This has led to the spread of prosperity and opportunities. However, globalization has also led to the homogenization of certain aspects of culture. Western influences, particularly in popular media and consumer products, have become dominant in many parts of the world. This has given rise to concerns about the erosion of local traditions and cultural identities. To address these challenges, it is essential to promote cultural diversity and heritage preservation. Education plays a vital role in nurturing an appreciation for one's own culture while fostering an understanding and respect for others. Governments should also take measures to protect and support local industries, crafts, and art forms to ensure their preservation and continued growth. In conclusion, globalization has brought both positive and negative impacts on cultural diversity. While it has facilitated global interactions and economic growth, it is crucial to safeguard and celebrate the unique identities and traditions that make our world colorful and diverse.六、ConclusionIn this BBC-style English speaking exercise, we have discussed a range of topics, including travel experiences, environmental protection, technology and communication, and globalization. It's beneficial to consider the distance between the house and her friend's office and the convenience of the transportation. However, the room size is not so big as she had thought. In the end, she bought the house for its good situation. After few years, the professor asked her feeling about the house and she answered very well in terms of the situation and transportation convenience, but she never mentioned the house was small because of confirmation bias.[听力原文]W: Okay, so I'll use a case study to show you what I mean by confirmation bias. A friend of mine, a few years ago told me she wanted to buy a house. Then, she found a lovely house, the distance between which and her office was only about 15— 20 minutes if driving. The traffic flow had always been my friend's concern whenever she moved to a new place. Although she found a house with good location, it was not as big as she expected. After struggling whether or not to make thepurchase, she finally bought the house because of the location. Having been asked about the feeling of living in that house few years later, she responded very positively in terms of the location and traffic convenience, rather than complaining about the house for being small. Why don't you reduce some hours at your part-time job? Then, you will have more time on your studies and more hours to sleep.W: Hmm, I'm afraid I can't, because I've just started this new job. Asking for time off or changing schedule will make my employer unhappy.M: Yes, of course. You can call your professor to ask for an extension of your papers. Basically in your particular situation, I'm sure the professor will give you the time you need.W: I have talked to my professor about my history papers. He allowed me a week extension. But I don't really want to take the advantage, because he will lower the grades of my papers. I am aiming to do well in these papers. So I guess I will try hard to take the challenge. Thanks anyway.Speaking Question 6You will now listen to part of a lecture. You will then be asked a question about it. After you hear the question, you will have 20 seconds to prepare your response and 60 seconds to speak.1. Using points and examples from the talk, explain the two negative effects of roads on both plants and animals in the professor's lecture.topicTwo negative effects of roads on the environment are referred by the professor through showing two examples.example 1First, the professor mentions that roads or highways can do harm to plants, because roads cut off water resource of plants and thus force them to move to other areas for water. For example, a plant species called Yellow Star Thistle was forced to migrate to a new environment because of the effect of roads and competed with local plants over resources.example 2Secondly, the professor points out that roads can also affect animals. For example, Kit-foxes hunt for mice or squirrels as their food. They worry about crossing roads and hunt less food. So their number decrease because of the lack of food resource.[听力原文]M: Roads like highways help connect people from one place to another; however, roads have two negative impacts on the environment by affecting both plants and animals living in the local area.Firstly, highways or country roads affect native plants by cutting off water sources and thus force them to migrate to other areas for water. A plant species such as Yellow Star Thistle that invades or takes over the area can potentially cause harm to the other native plants. These alien plants are so aggressive that they even kill off populations of native plants all together in the competition over resources.Roads can also affect animals' lives by blocking their territories and keeping them away from food and water, becausecrossing the road to follow food source could be very dangerous because of the passing vehicles. In other words, modern roads act as dangerous walls for many animal species and break their supply lines in the area. For example, kit foxes hunt small species like mice or squirrels to survive, but if there is a road in the Kit foxes' path towards their food source, the foxescies in the area.will starve to death and thus decreasing the number of the spe。
I think I made my point.
Can I ask you a favor? 能请你帮个忙吗?(还有好多种说法:Can you do me a favor / give me a hand? ect. 挑一句顺眼的记就够了)I learnt my lesson.我得到教训了.out of my league 我高攀不上(有部电影就叫"She's out of my league",当时看了一点点就没心情看下去了,不评论)Don't take it personally. 别往心里去, 这不是针对你spare key 备用钥匙(老外经常会把自己家的钥匙备份一份给邻居,或者是在家门口的某个位置藏一把sapre key,门框上或花盆下等。
