人教版广东广州高考专题英语高考模拟1.阅读理解第1题.Wolves use many different types of communication. One way they communicate is through sound. The howl(嗥叫)is a well-known method wolves use to communicate with each other. While howling, wolves often change their voices a lot. As a result, people are sometime "fooled" into believing that there are more wolves than there really are. People have often guessed, after listening to howls, that a pack(群)of wolves contained up to 20 individuals, when there were only 3 or 4. Some people have thought that wolves do that on purpose, in order to fool neighboring packs into believing that there are more animals present than there really are. However, many naturalists and wolf biologists do not accept that idea.Wolves seem to howl for many reasons. They often howl before they go on a hunt, possibly to get the pack together, and they often begin to howl after a successful hunt. That suggests that howling serves to bring a pack together, since wolves often become separated from each other during a hunt. They do not, however, howl while they are hunting. In addition, a wolf may howl alone if having, trouble locating its pack. Surprisingly, pack members seem to recognize each others voices, since individual wolves often have their own way of howling. Wolves will also howl in sadness after the death of their mates.Wolf packs may also howl to communicate with other packs, as two different wolf packs will sometimes answer each others howls. Wolves will also often answer the calls of humans who are pretending to howl like wolves.Wolves howl less often during May and June than they do during the rest of the year. This may be because that is the time that packs are most likely to have young pups(幼崽)present. It is possible that wolf packs who have young pups present often keep silent so they do not attract attention to their location, since pups can be easily hurt by predators(捕食性动物)like bears.(1)People argued about ________.A: how wolves howlB: why wolves howlC: when wolves howlD: where wolves howl(2)Wolves howl in order to ________.A: fool peopleB: fool neighboring packsC: convey different messagesD: make the pack sound stronger(3)Wolves don't howl often in early summer because ________.A: they don't howl when it's hotB: they have to save their energyC: they don't have enough food to eatD: they need to protect the young ones(4)We can learn from the text that ________.A: wolves don't answer humans' callB: a wolf pack consists of about 20 wolvesC: wolves always stay together when huntingD: different wolves have different ways of howling【答案】BCDD【解答】(1)B 推理判断题。
人教版广东广州高考专题英语高考模拟1.阅读理解第1题.Scientists are racing to build the world's first thinking robot. This is not science fiction: some say they will have made it by the year 2020, Carol Packer reports.Machines that walk, speak and feel are no longer science fiction. Kismet is the name of an android(机器人)which scientists have built at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT). Kismet is different from the traditional robot because it can show human emotions. Its eyes, ears and lips move to show when it feels happy, sad or bored. Kismet is one of the first of a new generation of androids—robots that look like human beings—which can imitate human feelings. Cog, another android invented by the MIT, imitates the action of a mother. However, scientists admit that so far Cog has the mental ability of a two-year-old.The optimists(乐观主义者)say that by the year 2020 we will have created humanoids(机器人)with brains similar to those of an adult human being. These robots will be designed to look like people to make them more attractive and easier to sell to the public. What kind of jobs will they do? In the future, robots like Robonaut, a humanoid invented by NASA, will be doing dangerous jobs, like repairing space stations. They will also be doing more and more of the household work for us. In Japan, scientists are designing androids that will entertain us by dancing and playing the piano. Some people worry about what the future holds: will robots become monsters(怪物)? Will people themselves become increasingly like robots? Experts predict that more and more people will be wearing micro-computers, connected to the Internet, in the future. People will have micro chips in various parts of their body, which will connect them to a wide variety of gadgets(小装置). Perhaps we should not exaggerate(夸大)the importance of technology, but one wonders whether, in years to come, we will still be falling in love, and whether we will still feel pain. Who knows?(1)What makes Cog special?A: It has a huge brain.B: It behaves like a child.C: It looks like a mother.D: It can imitate the behavior of a mother.(2)What will happen to robots in about several years' time from now? A: Think like humans.B: Look like monsters.C: Behave like animals.D: Become space designers.(3)What will robots also do in the future?A: Explore space.B: Entertain people.C: Move much faster.D: Do all of the housework.(4)What is the writer's attitude to robots in the future?A: Critical.B: Negative.C: Objective.D: Enthusiastic.【答案】DABC【解答】(1)D 细节理解题。

人教版广东广州高考专题英语高考模拟1.阅读理解第1题.Over the past five years, researchers in artificial intelligence have become the rock stars of the technology world. A branch of AI known as deep learning, has proven so useful that skilled operators can command six-figure salaries to build software for Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google. The top names can earn over 1 million a year. The traditional way to get these jobs has been a Doctor's degree in computer science from one of America's top universities. Earning one takes years and requires a person who can be devoted to study, which is rare among normal people. Moreover, graduate students are regularly attracted away from their studies by various high-paid jobs. That is changing. Last month Fast. ai, an education non-profit based in San Francisco, kicked off the third year of its course in deep learning. Since its beginning it has attracted more than 100,000 students from India to Nigeria. The course comes with a simple idea: there is no need to spend years obtaining a Doctor's degree in order to practise deep learning. Fast. ai's course can be completed in just seven weeks. For example, a graduate from Fast. ai's first year, Sara Hooker, was hired into Google 's highly competitive AI residency programme after finishing the course, having never worked on deep leaning before. She is now a founding member of Google's new AI research office in Accra, Ghana, the firm's first in Africa. To make it accessible to anyone who wants to learn how to build AI software, Jeremy Howard, who founded Fast. ai with Rachel Thomas, a mathematician, says middle school mathematics is enough. Fast. ai is not the only A. I. programme. AI4ALL, another non-profit organization, founded by leading technologists including Dr. Fei-Fei Li, works to bring AI education to schoolchildren that would otherwise not have access to it.Howard's ambitions run deeper than just dealing with the shortage in the AI labour market. His aim is to spread deep learning into many hands, so that it may be applied in as many fields as possible. The ambition, says Mr Howard, is for AI training software to become as easy to use and common as sending an email on a smart phone.(1)What's Paragraph 2 mainly about?A: The way to get a Doctor's degree.B: The difficulties to get a Doctor's degree.C: The importance to get a Doctor's degree.D: The necessity to get a Doctor's degree.(2)What can we learn about Fast. ai?A: It aims to produce AI graduates in a fast way.B: It aims to collect money for poor students.C: It charges a high free for offering courses.D: It becomes popular only in India and Nigeria.(3)Where does Sara Hooker work according to the passage?A: India.B: Nigeria.C: Ghana.D: America.(4)What do Fast. ai and Al4ALL have in common?A: They are both mcant for children.B: They require advanced math.C: They have the same founder.D: They are both non-profit.【答案】BACD【解答】(1)B 段落大意题。

2023-2024学年广东广州人教版高考专题英语高考模拟1.阅读理解第1题."My P.E. teacher taught me maths." It has been a common joke for years but whena P.E. teacher applied for the head-teacher job, many parents worried that "the joke could come true". Some parents asked, "Does the P.E. teacher know maths and English? If not, how is he supposed to tutor the students?" But there were still parents who believed P.E. teachers had more time to discipline the students since they didn't have many classes. This concern is actually a "subject bias", that is, choosing a P.E. teacher as the head-teacher is not good for the students' grades since he doesn't know Chinese, maths, or English. It is acceptable for Chinese teachers, maths teachers and English teachers to be head-teachers because these subjects are important to entrance exams and scores. Such a concern reflects parents' anxiety in the current educational environment, which tends to link the head-teacher's responsible subject with the facts whether the school cares about the class and the children's performances in the subject. Many people care about their kids' academic performances only. They don't care about their kids' P.E. performance at all. Even if kids have P.E. classes, parents care little. P.E. teachers are in humble position and their classes arc often occupied by other teachers. Of course, if students' P.E. performance is related to grades and entrance exams, parents won't mind "a P.E. teacher being the head-teacher".At the moment, P.E. is gradually included in entrance exams. In terms of high school entrance examination, Guangzhou will launch a new high school entrance exam which includes P.E. performance and Health examination in 2021, raising the score to 70 points. In terms of the college entrance examination, universities having the right of independent enrollments added P.E. tests to their entrance exams in 2019. This practice is seen as an important signal that the assessment of physical fitness and athletic ability, which are important aspects of a student's overall quality, may be included in the college entrance examination in the future. We hope that it's a trend for P.E. teachers, music teachers and art teachers to become head-teachers.(1)By saying "My P.E. tcacher taught me maths.", what does the author intend to show us?A: It is just a joke that seldom happened in reality.B: P.E. teachers hardly assist students in maths.C: P.E. teachers are good at teaching maths.D: Parents doubt the ability of P.E. teacher.(2)We can infer from paragraph 2 that a P.E. teacher ________.A: is of little benefit for students' academic performanceB: is humbler than Chinesemath or English teachersC: reflects whether the school cares about the classD: gets unfairly judged due to the current educational system(3)Why does Guangzhou raise proportion of P.E. performance in high school entrance examination?A: To raise students' awareness of physical health.B: To call on parents to pay attention to P.E. teachers.C: To test the overall ability of high school students.D: To make P.E. teachers equal with other teachers.(4)What opinion does the author hold towards P.E. teachers working as head-teachers? A: Neutral.B: Unexpected.C: Supportive.D: Critical.【答案】DDAC【解答】(1)D 推理判断题。
人教版广东广州高考专题英语高考模拟1.阅读理解第1题.Stories are a powerful way to communicate. We all learn through stories. I've raised a three-step formula anyone can use to create powerful stories that will help you make your point. First, identify your truth. Second, think of the decisive experiences that have led you to this "truth". Third, shape those experiences into a story that you can tell at the drop of a hat. Here's an example of how I have used this formula.Years ago, I had an assignment to conduct a team-building session. The client was my friend. I arrived at his office at 5: 00 p. m. the day before our session. He asked me if I had an agenda for tomorrow's meeting. I told him that, first we'll do A, then B, followed by C. We'll finish up with D. Still he asked if I had an agenda. At first, I thought he hadn't been listening to what I just said, so I repeated myself, "First we'll do A, then B, followed by C. We'll finish up with D." He said, "Yes, I know. That's what you just said. Do you have an agenda?"At that point, it dawned on me that he was looking for a printed agenda. I said, "No, but we really don't need one. I've done many meetings like this. It will go fine." He said, "I'm not comfortable winging it." So we created an agenda using Powerpoint. The next day, the meeting went off smoothly. We followed the agenda I had in my head and he had on the PowerPoint slide. Everyone agreed it was one of the best meetings of this type they had ever attended. It became clear to me that if I want to influence not just this client, but anyone, I need to adapt my communication style to theirs. From that day on, I modify my communication style to meet the needs of the other person.(1)What does Paragraph 1 mainly talk about?A: How to form powerful stories.B: Stories come from experiences.C: How to communicate with powerful stories.D: Stories play an important part in communication.(2)How does the author develop this passage?A: By listing figures.B: By giving examples.C: By making remarks.D: By presenting research findings.(3)Why did the meeting go so well?A: The author winged it.B: The author's friend used Powerpoint.C: The author and his friend created an agenda separately.D: The author and his friend made an agenda using Powerpoint.(4)What does the underlined word "modify" mean?A: Adopt.B: Follow.C: Change.D: Create.【答案】ABDC【解答】(1)A 段落大意题。
人教版广东广州高考专题英语高考模拟1.阅读理解第1题.From the very beginning of school we make books and reading a constant source of possible failure and public humiliation(侮辱). When children are little we make them read aloud before the teacher and other children, so that we can be sure they "know" all the words they are reading. This means that when they don't know a word, they are going to make a mistake, right in front of everyone. After having taught fifth-grade classes for four years, I decided to try at all costs to rid them of their fear and dislike of books, and to get them to read oftener and more adventurously. One day soon after school had started, I said to them, "Now I'm going to say something about reading that you have probably never heard a teacher say before. I would like you to read a lot of books this year, but I want you to read them only for pleasure. I am not going to ask you questions to find out whether you understand the books or not. If you understand enough of a book to enjoy it and want to go on reading it, that's enough for me. Also I'm not going to ask you what words mean."The children sat stunned and silent. Was this teacher talking seriously? One girl, who had just come to us from a school where she had had a very hard time, looked at me steadily for a long time after I had finished. Then, still looking at me, she said slowly and seriously, Mr Holt, do you really mean that "I said just as seriously?" I mean every word of it.During the spring she really astonished me. One day, she was reading at her desk. From a glimpse of the illustrations(插图)I thought I knew what the book was. I said to myself, "It can't be," and went to take a closer look. Sure enough, she was reading Moby Dick. I said, "Don't you find parts of it rather heavy going?" She answered, "Oh, sure, but I just skip over those parts and go on to the next good part."This is exactly what reading, I think, should be: find something, dive into it, take the good parts, skip the bad parts, get what you can out of it, and then go on to something else.(1)According to the passage, children's fear and dislike of books may result from ________.A: reading little and thinking littleB: reading often and adventurouslyC: being made to read too muchD: being made to read aloud before others(2)The teacher told his students to read ________.A: for higher scores in examsB: for knowledgeC: for enjoymentD: for a larger vocabulary(3)Upon hearing the teacher's talk, the children probably felt that ________. A: it sounded stupidB: it was not surprising at allC: it sounded too good to be trueD: it was no different from other teachers' talk(4)Which statement about the girl is TRUE according to the passage?A: She skipped over those easy parts while reading.B: She had a hard time finishing the required reading tasks.C: She learned to appreciate some parts of the difficult books.D: She turned out to be a top student after coming to this school.【答案】DCCC【解答】(1)D 细节理解题。
