Talking on a mobile phone is expensive, so a lot of

people send text messages. Text messages are much

cheaper than talking on a mobile phone, and you can

make it even cheaper by shortening the words that you

use. You can do this by taking out "unimportant" letters

in the words (usually vowels) and using numbers instead

of words (2 = to, 3 = free, 4 = for, 8 = ate, so h8 = hate,

etc.). You can also avoid using punctuation like inverted

commas. Here is an example:

Have you ever heard of “film therapy”？ Doctors are using films to encourage their

patients to talk more freely about their problems. Supporters of “film therapy” say that

discussing characters and plot lines from a proper film can help people understand

themselves better.

Andrew Wooder, a doctor from Alabama, who charges ￡ 45 for a one­hour “film

therapy” session, says, “I was treating a woman who had been badly let down in a

relationship, and who was experiencing such strong feelings that it was difficult for her to

speak about them. I told her that her situation reminded me of On the Waterfront, when

Marlon Brando's character realises his brother is dishonest and he feels a great sense of
