一、教学目标
(一)语言知识目标
1.掌握下列词汇:get on (well)with; relation; communicate; argue; instead; instead of; whatever;
nervous; offer; proper; communication; explain; clear
2.阅读短文,能按要求找到相应的信息。
3.通过阅读提高学生们的阅读能力。
4.能够熟练的谈论自己或他人的烦恼及给人提出合理的建议。
(二)情感态度和价值观
培养学生积极参与活动的兴趣,与别人能够谈论自己兴趣。
二、教学重难点
(一)教学重点
1.重点短语的使用及建议的表达;如何解决困难和给人建议。
2.阅读短文,获得相关的信息。通过阅读练习,来提高阅读能力。
(二)教学难点
掌握文中出现的重点单词,词组和句型。
三、教学过程
Step 1 Warming-up and Revision
Problems and give advice.
(1)I have to study too much so I don’t get enough sleep.
Why don’t you go to sleep earlier this evening?
I have too much homework so I don’t have any free time to do things I like.

Step 2 Pre—reading
Before reading the letters, ask the students some questions:
Can you get on well with your family?
Are the relations between your parents good?
Do you have any brothers or sisters? Can you get on well with him/her?
Who do you ask for help when you have problems?
Step3 While— reading
Work on 3a
1. Tell students to read the first letter in 3a quickly and try to find the answers to these
questions:
(1)What’s Sad and Thirteen’s problem?
He can’t get on with his family.
(2)How does he feel at home?
He always feels lonely and nervous.
2. Let the students read the second letter,find out Robert Hunt’s advice.
Talk about the feelings with his family.
Do more jobs around the house.
Sit down and communicate with his brother.
3. Fill in the chart.
3 4. Read the two letters again and fill in the blanks.
Ask three students to read the answers then check.
Step4 After—reading
Work on 3b
1.Let students discuss Robert Hunt’s advice , encourage them to express their
opinions and give reasons to support these opinions.
T: What do you think about Mr. Hunt’s advice? Do you agree with him?
S1:Yes, I do. I agree with his advice because more communication can make family
members understand each other better and know about the feeling they have.
S2: No, I don’t. I think their parents should fight any more. They should care more
about their children and spend more time with them.
Make up a conversation and role-play.
S1:You look sad, what’s the matter?
S2:My parents fight a lot, I really doesn’t like it.
S1:Why don’t you talk about the feelings with your family. You could do more jobs
around the house.
S3:You look unhappy, what’s the matter ?
S4:My brother isn’t nice to me. He refuses to let me watch my favorite TV show.
S3:Why don’t you sit down and communicate with your brother.
Work on 3c
1.Let Ss read the words and phrases in 3c and identify the words/ phrases with the
same of similar meanings as the words in the letter in 3a. Then let Ss write their own
sentences in class.
2. Help the students to understand some difficult sentences.
(1)My problem is that I can’t get on with my family.
(2)Instead he watches whatever he wants until late at night.
(3)If your parents are having problems, you should offer to help.
(4)Secondly, why don’t you sit down and communicate with your brother?
(5)Can you explain to me how to do this math problem?
Step5 Pair work
4 Do you have any problems in your daily life or studying? If you have, discuss with
your partner and ask him/her for help.

Step6 Group work
Choose one of the problems and ask your classmates in your group for as much
advice as possible.
