Amidst this transformation, the English essay section has undergone a remarkable shift, reflecting the dynamism and adaptability of our educational system. This evolution not only challenges students to think creatively but also prepares them for the rigors of the modern world. The new essay format, characterized by its openness and diversity, demands a deeper understanding of the subject matter and a more nuanced approach to writing. Gone are the days of formulaic essays and predictable narratives; instead, students are now required to delve into complex topics, analyze them critically, and present their arguments coherently. This shift encourages a more holistic approach to learning, where students are encouraged toexplore diverse perspectives, engage with different viewpoints, and formulate their own opinions. The introduction of this new format also aligns with the global trend of emphasizing critical thinking and creativity in education. The new essay format, by emphasizing clarity and coherence, prepares students for this reality. However, the transition to this new format is not without its challenges. Students may initially find it difficult to adapt to the increased demands of the new format. They may struggle with the depth and breadth of thetopics, or with the need to present their arguments in a more nuanced and coherent manner. Teachers and educational institutions, therefore, have an important role to play in guiding students through this transition. It is essential that teachers provide adequate training and support to help students master the new essay format. This includes teaching them how to brainstorm ideas, structure their essays effectively, and use language precisely. Additionally, teachers can encourage students to read widely, engage in critical discussions, and practice writing regularly to improve their skills. Moreover, educational institutions can also facilitate this transition by providing resources and support. Soccer is played by millions of people all over the world, but there have only been few players who were truly great. How did these players get that way-was it through practice, or are great players “born, not made〞? First, these players come from places that have had famous stars in the past-players that a young boy can look up to and try to imitate. In the history of soccer, only six countries have ever won the World Cup-three from South America and three from Western Europe. ____________-or a really great player-from North America or from Asia. Second, these players have all had years of practice in the game. Alfredo Di Stefano was the son of a soccer player, as was Pele. For example, Liverpool, which produced the Beetle, has one of the best English soccer teams in recent years. Pele practiced in the street with a “ball〞made of rags. And George Best learned the tricks that made him famous by bouncing the ball off a wall in the slums of Belfast. All great players have a lot in common, but that doesn’t explain why they are great. It will be the first time that card payments have outstripped cash outlay for goods and services. There are 246 plastic card transactions made every second. T otal plastic card use is expected to exceed £269 billion in 2004, just a whisker ahead of the predicted £268 billion for cash payments, said banking industry body the Association for Payment Clearing Services. The group, which represents the major banks, said credit cards had become “demonized”(魔鬼化) as one of the main causes of ballooning debts, but added: “Without plastic, our society would virtually grind to a halt.”Last year, the number of plastic cards in use in Britain grew by 13 million, or 9%, to 160 million—the equivalent of 3.5 cards per adult. Two-thirds of card transactions are now made usingdebit cards.Plastic accounted for £244 billion of spending in 2003. “This year, total plastic card use, if business card usage is included, is expected to top £269 billion. More than 18 million people bought goods or services online, up 50% on 2002. Credit cards accounted for 69% of the 200m transactions, with debit cards mopping up most of the remainder.Last year was a landmark year for another reason --- the first reduction in card fraud for eight years. Fraud losses on plastic cards fell by 5% to £402 million as measures to combat crooks started to take effect.A new generation of cards containing computer chips is being introduced, and by the end of this year most people making face-to-face purchases will have to type their four-digit Pin number into keypads at tills and will no longer have to sign receipts.81.
