There are many kinds of tigers all over the world, and the largest tiger is the Northeast Tiger. Most Northeast Tigers live in the northeast of China, like Heilongjiang Province and Jilin Province. Because there are many forests and mountains, the tigers usually like living there. In the forests and mountains, there are fewer people getting out and coming in. So the tigers are very free. (5)AThere are many things we need to know but we do not learn at school. For example, if we want to use our allowance wisely, we need to shop carefully. We need to know how to compare the prices of things in different shops. We need to be able to compare the quality of different brands. We need to know how to make sensible choices when we shop. Knowing how to make such choices is a “life skill”, and we need these skills if we are to lead a useful and happy life. Some of these choices are small. For example, will I take an apple for lunch or a pear? Will I take a bus to school today or will I walk? Will I wear the red T-shirt or the blue one to the movies? Other choices are more important. For example, will I eat healthy food for lunch or will I eat junk food because it is tastier? Will I work hard at all my lessons or will I only work hard at the lessons which I enjoy? We make decisions like these every day.Making wrong choices can result in unhappiness. We have to realize that the choices we make can affect the rest of our life.

This may seem strange to you, since nearly 70% of the earth’s surface is covered with water. But about 97% of that is seawater, or salt water. Man can only drink and use the other 3%— the fresh water from rivers, lakes, groundwater, and other sources. And we cannot even use all of that. Even worse, some of it has been made dirty. However, as things stand today, this fresh water is still enough for us. But our need for water is becoming larger and larger quickly — almost day by day. We should take steps to do with this problem now, and only in this way can we get away from a serious world — wide water shortage later on.We all have to learn how to stop wasting our valuable water. One of the first steps is to develop ways of reusing it. Today in most large cities, water is used only once and then sent out into a sewer. From there it returns to the sea or runs into underground places. But even if every large city reused its water, we still would not have enough. All we have to do to make use of seawater in the world is to remove the salt. If we take these steps, we’ll be in no danger of drying up.Choose the best answer for each question.( )6.

Try to find out whether your teacher really dislikes you, or whether something else is going on. Here are some questions to ask yourself:1. Are you the only person being treated badly, or is your teacher rough on the whole class? Ask your classmates if they are having trouble with the teacher, too. If they say yes, perhaps your teacher is having problems outside the school, or is new and at a loss.2. Are you working up to your ability? Maybe you got a C in your last test, and your teacher told you that you could do better. But the kid sitting beside you got a C, too, and the teacher didn’t say anything to him! Isn’t this unfair? Well, it could be that your teacher knows that you could get a better grade if you put more effort into it. Teachers often grade students by different standards. It’s their way of encouraging a student to try a little harder.3. Are you more sensitive than other students? There’s nothing wrong with being sensitive, but if you react to criticism quite differently from others, this could be a reason why you think your teacher doesn’t like you.4. Does your teacher seem to act unfairly all the time, or just once in a while? Think about the harsh things your teacher has done or said to you. Are these things happening every day, or just once or twice a month? If your teacher really hates you, you would probably be picked on all the time. If your teacher has acted unfairly only a few times, then there’s probably something else going on.If y ou take the time to ask yourself these questions, you’ll get a better sense of what’s happening between you and your teacher.Choose the best answer for each question.( )6. There are three main steps to get to where you want to go.First, sit down and write your dreams out. By writing them you will get a better idea of where you really want to go. Imagine yourself at the end of the year or maybe in five years. What do you see? How do people see you? What are you doing? Are you successful?Well, a dream is just that. It’s a vision of how you see yourself in the future. Once you know the direction in which you want to go, you can begin working on some goals.Secon d come the goals. Goals are “wants”. So are dreams, but goals are more specific. If you want to be rich, tell how much money you need to be rich. If you want good grades, tell what you mean by “good”. In fact, the more specific the goal is, the easier it w ill be to get it. Give numbers and times. Don’t use words like “lots” or “more”. For example, I want a “B” in each of my subjects.Third are the objectives. They tell exactly what you will do and when you will do it. When you think about what you will do, don’t use words like “try” or “maybe”. Be sure your objectives can be measured. Every day or every week you can say, “Did I do this?” and you can answer with either a yes or a no. Don’t leave room for “maybes”.OK. Here is another example. I say I want a “B” in each subject. My objectives are:I will go to every class every day.I will sit in the middle of the classroom.I will re-read my notes from every class every day.I will finish every assignment the day when it is given.Well, you get the idea. Each of my objectives is specific and each one can be measured. If Ido all these things, there is a pretty good chance for me to get what I want, which means I’ll fulfill my dream.Fill in the blanks with proper words according to the passage.11.
