Unit6 I like music that I can dance toGood morning, ladies and gentlemen, nice to meet you here! I am Yao Wei, from Grade Nine. It ’s my great honor to standhere to share my teaching ideas with you. Today I am going to talk about the first period in Section A of Unit 6 I like music that I can dance to, which is taken from Go for it, Grade 9.My presentation consistsof six parts: analysis of the teaching material, analysis of the students, teaching methods, guide of studying ways, teaching procedures and teaching reflections. I. Analysis of the teaching materiali)Status and functionIn this unit, Ss learn to express preferences with the relative clause. The topic is about music, which is popular among Ss. It will arouse Ss’great interest. The first period mainly provides target language with relative clauses to express preferences on music. It gives Ss much practice in speaking and listening to the target language.ii)Teaching aims and demands1. Knowledge ObjectsIn this lesson, Ss should master the new words“prefer and lyric”.At the same time, they should know how to use the target language: What kind of music do you like?I like music that I can sing along with. What about you?I prefer music that has great lyrics.2. Ability ObjectsIn this lesson, I’ ll mainly traineSs listeningth and speaking abilities and develop the Ss’abilities of communication by expressing their preferences on music.3. Moral ObjectsLet ’ s enjoy music. It always brings us happiness.4.Teaching keys and difficultiesTeaching Key Points1). Key Vocabulary prefer, lyric2). Target LanguageTeaching Difficult Points1). Relative clauses with that2). The listening practice5.Teaching aidsA tape recorder and a computerII. Analysis of the studentsThe Ss have learned English for two and a half years, they can express their thought and communicate with each other with Englishwell. And all the Ss will be interested in the topic, which is related totheir real life. It’s helpful for our study of this lesson.III. Teaching methodsIn this lesson, I’ ll mainly use the following teachings: method1.Task-based teaching method2.Chain drill3.Pair work and group workIV .Guide of studying waysIn order to guide the Ss better, develop the Ss’ abilities, in this lesso the Ss will learn how to be a good language learner, and how to communicate with others. It will be very helpful for their learning inthe future. I think good studying ways can help the Ss to be goodlanguage learners.V.Teaching proceduresStep1. Warming-up(1) Invite different pairs of students to say the conversationslearned in preceding classes with books closed.(2)Check the answers to the exercises of the workbook by askingdifferent students to say their answers to the Class.(3) Dictate some of the key vocabulary words presented in units1-5.Purpose of my designing: I think it is important to review theknowledge we have learned.Step 2Pre-taskI first present “that are red”on the blackboardPoint to it and say a sentence with it, I like flowers that are red Askwho can make another sentence with it. They may say, I like glovesthat are red I like shoes that are red Write another phrase on the blackboard, that is big.Help the students to make sentences withitPlay the tapes of different kinds of music for the students, only ashort piece of each tape. Say, I like music that makes me relaxed Write these four groups of words on the blackboard, that has great lyrics, thatI can sing along with, that isn’tooloud, that I can dance to Tell the students lyrics means the contentsof the songs Ask the students, What kind of music do youlike? Then I’ll say, You can answer with I like music, I love music, I prefer music Explain prefer=like better to them Get one of the children to answer the question, then let this childask the one next to him/her the same question Set off a chain drillPurpose of my designing: This activity introduces the key vocabularyand trains the students to express preferences with the relativeclauseStep 3While-task1. Looking and circlingAsk the students to open their textbooks now Read the instructions of Activity 1a to the students. Make sure they understand everythingFirst I have them look at the pictures and circle the sentences they agree with Read each sentence to the class and ask the students to raise their hands to see if they agree Make a survey to find out how the class feels about each itemDiscuss the result of the survey with the classGet the students to complete the sentenceto tell what kind ofmusic they enjoy Ask some of the students to share their sentences Write any new words or phrases on the board to help them if necessaryHelp them make their own sentenceslike this: I like musicthatPurpose of my designing: This step is employed to make the Ss get the general idea of the target language. At the same time let the Ss have a chance to practice their listening and speaking ability.2.Listening practiceWe will hear Tony and Betty talking about the kinds of music each one likes.Let ’s see the instructions first.Read the instructions to the students. Tell them to tick (√) the right statements while they are listening. Read the three headings before playing the tape.Play the tape the first time and the students only listen. Then play itfor a second time. The students tick in the right answer boxes.Cheek the answers.Purpose of my designing: It gives Ss practice in understanding the target language in spoken conversations.Step 4 Post-task1. Pair work1cRead the instructions to the students.First ask a pair of the students to read the example in the box,SA: What kind of music do you like?SB: I like music that I can sing along with. What about you?SA:I prefer music that has great lyrics. Then get them to work in pairs. Answer the questionswith their own preferences. As the students do the practice, move around the classroom and givethem some help Ask several pairs of students to perform their conversations before the classPurpose of my designing: Task-based teaching method is used here todevelop Ss’ability of communication and also their ability of co-operation will be well trained.2. SummaryIn this class, we’ve learned two new key words, prefer and.Andlyrics we’ velearned how to express preferences by talking about music, using relative clause with thatPurpose of my designing: At the end of the class, we should helpthe Ss to summarize what we have learned in this lesson.3.HomeworkAsk the students to write three sentences with I like music that,I love music that,I prefer music thatPurpose of my designing: It is necessary for the Ss to do some extensive exercises after class to consolidate the knowledge they learned.Blackboard designSection A Unit 6 I like music I can dance to The First Period1sample phrasesthat are redthat is big Sentences 2Express references I like music thatI love music thatI prefer music thatI like flowers that are red I like the house that is bigRelative clause with that that has great lyricsthat I can sing along with that isn’t too loudV. Teaching reflectionThere are only two new words in this lesson “preferand lyric ”. During my preparation, I prepared a lot of pictures to realize the revision and teaching of the new words. I found that they were quite attractive when students saw them during the teaching. In terms of my organization of the class, there were four steps in detail. They were warming-up, pre-task, while-task, and post-task. Warming-up occupied about 6 minutes; pre-task occupied 8 minutes; practice and pairwork accounted for half of the class; listening lasted about 6 minutes. I was quite satisfied with the part of oral practice, because every student participated in listening and talking. They could give correct answers when they stood up. The feedback information was ideal at this point. Meanwhile, I was not satisfied with the listeningpart. If I had five more minutes, I would play the tape recorder for another time and let them repeat what they heard. Because of the limited time, I just let them listen and check the answers, I think it not enough if I want to develop their listening and speaking abilities. That ’s all about my class. Thank you for listening.。

外研社选修六Module5listening Presenter: Our topic for this week is cloning. To discuss it, we have with usDr Hugh Donaville, head of a company that has already cloned anumber of animals.Hugh Donaville: Good morning.Presenter: Dr Donaville, could you begin with a simple explanation of cloning?Hugh Donaville: Certainly. Cloned animals are created in a laboratory. They take all their genes from a single parent.Presenter: So cloned animals come from one parent only.Hugh Donaville: Precisely .Presenter: How successful has cloning been so far?Hugh Donaville: Well, as most people know, in 1997 scientists cloned a sheep called Dolly . Since then, scientists have cloned animals such aspigs and cats.Presenter: You make cloning sound easy.Hugh Donaville: Do I? I wish it was. If it was easy, I'd be a very rich man by now. Presenter: So what are the difficulties?Hugh Donaville: Unfortunately, cloned animals get ill and die quite young . For example, Dolly the sheep died in 2003. She should have livedlonger.Presenter: Why do they get ill?Hugh Donaville: We've got a few ideas but we don't really understand why yet. Presenter: I see. Now obviously, Dr Donaville, you believe that cloning willbe beneficial to human beings.Hugh Donaville: Yes, I do. If I didn't believe that, I'd be in a different job. Presenter: Many people believe that cloning is wrong and against nature. How do you answer them?Hugh Donaville: I tell them that cloning is a way of helping nature. Presenter: But cloning treats animals and people as things, as products.Hugh Donaville: Nonsense! I don't think that's true at all. I don't think scientists treated Dolly the sheep as a product. She was a sheep!Presenter: I'm not sure everyone believes that. Also, people are afraid that scientists will create thousands of copies of the same person.Hugh Donaville: I agree, if that happened, it would be terrible. We need laws toprevent that.Presenter: I'm glad you agree about that. But why do scientists want toclone humans? I can't see any good reasons for this.Hugh Donaville: On the contrary, there are very good reasons. For example, if a couple can't have children, then cloning can give them a child. And if a child dies , we could clone it.Presenter: Create an identical copy, you mean? I think that's a terrible idea. Hugh Donaville: A clone can never be an identical copy of another person. It's not just your genes that create who you are. It's your family andsociety as well.Presenter: True.Hugh Donaville: To continue , we could clone animals that are becoming extinct . Presenter: Yes, if we were able to do that, it would be wonderful. I can seethere are many arguments both for and against cloning .。

Academic honesty and plagiarismCommencing students should complete the academic honesty module available via Blackboard before their first assessment submission. Students should refer to the University’s policies on a cademic honesty and plagiarism (.au/policy), the Faculty’s procedures for dealing with allegations(.au/sio) and use the assessment cover sheet.Academic honesty is important to protect students' right to receive due credit for work submitted for assessment. It is clearly unfair for students to submit work for assessment that dishonestly represents the work of others as their own and gain marks and degrees, which are not based on their own efforts and abilities. Deliberate breaches of academic honesty constitute academic misconduct. These breaches include: plagiarism, fabrication of data, recycling previously submitted material, engaging someone else to complete an assessment on one’s behalf and misconduct during supervised assessments. The penalties for academic misconduct may include: a mark of zero on the assessment; a fail grade in the unit of study, additional assessment (including an unseen exam), and reference of the matter to the University Registrar.3.Student feedback and evaluation3.1 Feedback received from previous studentsAs a teaching team we review all the ratings and comments at the end of the last semester to plan changes for this semester. The same feedback approach will be incorporated this semester.3.2 Improvements madeStudents’ feedback was generally positive about the administration and teaching. The negative comments focused on the alignment of textbook, lecture notes, tutorial questions and assignment. As a result of the feedback, in this semester we will use only one textbook. Lecture notes, tutorial questions and assignment are all based on and from this textbook.3.3 Collection of feedback from current studentsStudent feedback is very important for this unit. Anonymously evaluation is typically undertaken through the Unit of Study Evaluation (USE) instrument at the end of each semester. Feedback will be used to make further changes to improve the unit of study.4.University policies and servicesAll students must comply with and follow all Faculty and University policies and procedures.Faculty policies are contained in the Administration Manual for Students at.au/StudentManual. It is crucial that you take the time to consult this manual early in your studies in order to familiarise yourself with policies and procedures relating to critical issues such as the Faculty’s policy on specia l consideration (applications due within 5 working days of an assessment), appeals (15 working days from decision) etc. Assistance is available from the Faculty’s Student Information Office at .au/sioUniversity policies at .au/policy include: academic honesty.au/ab/policies/Academic_Honesty_Cwk.pdf, plagiarism.au/senate/policies/Plagiarism.pdf. Assistance is available from the University’s Student Centre .au/studentcentreThe code of conduct is an important policy which outlines the University’s expectations about treating all staff employees and students with respect, dignity, impartiality, courtesy and sensitivity and refrain from acts of discrimination, harassment or bullying. .au/ab/policies/Student_code_conduct.pdf Links to other student services and resources are included on Blackboard and on the Faculty’s Learning and Teaching website .au/students/learningsupport (e.g. counselling services).。
