Crop circleA crop circle is a sizable pattern created by the flattening(压扁) of a crop such as wheat and rice.26 countries reported about ten thousand crop circles in the last third of the 20th century. Ninety percent of those were located in southern England. The earliest recorded image resembling a crop circle is in 17th century England. Public attention in crop circles arose the late 1970s as many circles began appearing throughout the English countryside. To date, nearly 10,000 crop circles have been reported around the world, from locations such as Russia, the UK, Japan, the U.S. and Canada. While it is not known how all crop circles are made, various theories have been put forward ranging from natural phenomenon and man-made tricks, to the paranormal(超自然的) and even animals.Aliens(外星人) in a UFOUFO stands for Unidentified Flying Object. According to some witnesses(目击者), it is colorless and moves at a slow, steady speed with little noise. The chances for seeing a UFO are greater for those people who live in small towns or in the country and are outside late at night.Police in America have stepped up their search for a fifteen-year-old boy who went missing three days ago in Dover. This incident has received great interest due to reports of strange lights in the sky and of alien visits around the time the boy disappeared. Some people also say that they saw aliens that night. “It’s happened to me!” said Mrs Mavis Wood. “The aliens took me to the UFO so that they could do research on me. Luckily, they returned me home without any injuries. The whole experience was terrible!”Others say the aliens are strange creatures with white skin and large black eyes.StonehengeThe Stonehenge was first discovered by a priest (神父) in 1130 AD. It was produced by a culture that left no written records. Many aspects of Stonehenge remain subject to debate. The theories about it are often called the “mystery of Stonehenge”.The Stonehenge may be built for the ancient sacrifice (祭祀). But many people believe that it is a tomb of a wealthy family. Besides, some others think that it is an astronomical(天文学的) calendar(日历) or a temple to the sun. It is still one of the most mysterious things in the world.YetiThe Tibetan name for the Abominable Snowman, a humanlike monster(怪兽)whose tracks have been discovered in the frigid(寒冷的)lands of perpetual(永久的)snow in the Himalayan regions of India, Nepal, and Tibet.According to locals(当地人), the Yeti is but one of several unidentified creatures that inhabit the highlands of southern Asia. Sherpas, Nepalis and Tibetans alike have described different types of Yeti; a larger variety is described as being a hybrid(混合体)of man and ape and standing well over two meters tall and having a fur of a dark brown to black color. Yet another type is described as smaller than an average man with a reddish-brown pelt(毛皮). These different types of Yeti have two things in common; they walk upright and are equally elusive(难捉摸的).Several sightings, mainly of footprints, have been reported by westerner explorers throughout the years, but contrary to popular belief, these creatures are highly unlikely to dwell in(居住在)the snowfields where food is scarce, but rather inhabit the jungle and forested areas where there are abundant plants and small animals on which they may feed.。
