50年代，阿希(Solomon E.Asch， 1907.09.14－1996.02.20)等人开展顺从的 研究。以霍夫兰为首的耶鲁学派发表了
一系列有关说服的研究。费斯廷格提出 了认知失调理论，这个理论成为60年代 的研究中心。到了70年代，由海德的 《人际关系心理学》一书奠定了基础的 归因理论成了研究重点。80年代以来， 认知社会心理学和应用社会心理学日益 受到重视。

中国社会心理学在50年代以前作 为一门独立学科而存在过。早在清末 民初，已有人介绍过作为心理学重要 分支学科的社会心理学。20年代出版 了勒邦的《群众心理学》、麦独孤的 《社会心理学导论》以及奥尔波特的 《社会心理学》等重要著作的译本， 中国学者自己也编写了一些社会心理 学著作。
