My favorites are pop, rock, and anything with a really catchy beat that makes me want to jump around.My mom plays a lot of music at home and in the car. She likes older bands like The Beatles, Queen, and ABBA. At first I didn't really like that oldies stuff, but some of the songs have grown on me. "Dancing Queen" by ABBA is so fun and I know all the words now. I like bouncing around singing "You can dance, you can jiiiiiiive, having the time of your life!" That song always puts me in a good mood.A lot of my friends are really into the latest pop stars like Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes, and Billie Eilish. Their songs are everywhere - on the radio, TV, TikTok, you name it. I have a bunch of their songs on my playlist for when I'm getting ready for school or hanging out with my BFFs. "Thank U, Next" by Ariana Grande is a total bop. And "Bad Guy" by Billie Eilish feels so edgy and cool.One of my all-time favorite artists though is Taylor Swift. I've loved her music for as long as I can remember. My mom used to play her albums like Fearless and Red in the car when I was little. Now I'm obsessed with her newer releases like Folklore and Midnights. The storytelling in her lyrics is just so amazing and vivid. I can picture every single scene and character she describes. "Anti-Hero" and "You're On Your Own, Kid" from Midnights make me feel ALL the feels. I've listened to those songs a million times analyzing every line.Someday I want to go to one of Taylor's concerts. Can you imagine how incredible that would be?? Seeing her up on stage with thousands of fans all singing along to hits like "Shake It Off" and "Look What You Made Me Do." I'd completely lose my mind! Maybe my parents will surprise me with tickets for my birthday this year. A girl can dream, right?In the meantime, I'll just keep jamming out to my favorite playlists at home. Music is like a best friend to me. It's always there to sing along or dance with when I'm happy. And it comforts me when I'm sad or stressed out too. All the biggest stars make pop music like Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, and BTS.Speaking of BTS, they are definitely my favorite music group! I'm a huge ARMY which means I'm a really big fan of the K-pop group BTS. I have all their albums and know all the lyrics to their songs in both Korean and English. My favorite BTS song is "Butter" because it's just so happy and makes me want to dance around my room.When I'm not listening to BTS, I also really like listening to Taylor Swift's music. She's been making amazing songs for yearsand years. My favorite Taylor Swift song is "Shake It Off" from her 1989 album. That whole album is a masterpiece in my opinion. I can sing along to every single song!Another one of my favorite artists is Ed Sheeran. Ed has such a beautiful and unique voice. They just recently got back together as a group and I'm so excited about their reunion. I've loved their music ever since I was a little kid. It's so awesome that you can just look up any song and watch the official music video for it whenever you want. Sometimes I'll just put on a playlist of my favorite artists' music videos and sing and dance around my room for hours. It's such a great way to have fun!I've been trying to learn how to play some songs on the guitar and the piano too. Maybe one day I'll be able to write and record my own songs! How cool would that be? There's just something about those catchy melodies, driving beats, and angsty lyrics that really speaks to my teen soul, you know?Some of my favorite pop punk bands are All Time Low, State Champs, Neck Deep, and The Story So Far. Whenever I'm feeling down or stressed out, blasting "Dear Maria, Count Me In" by All Time Low or "Things I Can't Change" by The Story So Far never fails to instantly boost my mood and give me a little burst of energy.That said, I'm also a huge fan of indie/alternative rock. Artists like The Neighbourhood, The 1975, Wallows, and girl in red have such a cool, laid-back vibe that I really vibe with. Their songs are perfect for chilling out, going for long drives, or just getting lost in my thoughts. A few of my favorite indie songs at the moment are "Sweater Weather" by The Neighbourhood, "If You're TooShy (Let Me Know)" by The 1975, "Are You Bored Yet?" by Wallows and "we fell in love in october" by girl in red.But you know what? As much as I love pop punk and indie, I'm probably most obsessed with musical theatre showtunes. Yes, I'm that nerd who can (and does) recite the entire Les Misérables soundtrack from memory. I have so much respect for the incredible talents of musical composers and lyricists. Songs from shows like Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, and Six have actually helped me through some really tough times with their emotional yet uplifting messages.My all-time favorite showtune has to be "You Will Be Found" from Dear Evan Hansen. Those lyrics about feeling alone and insignificant in the world, but being reminded that you do matter and people care about you...it hits me right in the feels every single time. I've probably listened to that song like a million times already! Other showtunes I'm currently obsessed with are "The Room Where It Happens" from Hamilton and "Don't Lose Ur Head" from Six.Speaking of emotional songs, I'm also a huge fan of sad, angsty tracks from artists like Olivia Rodrigo and girl in red. Sure, they're depressing as heck, but there's something so cathartic about screaming those heartbroken lyrics at the top of yourlungs, you know? Artists like Dua Lipa, The Weeknd, Doja Cat, and Harry Styles make amazing party anthems that I can't resist dancing around my room to. A few of my faves in that genre are "Physical" by Dua Lipa, "Blinding Lights" by The Weeknd, "Say So" by Doja Cat, and "As It Was" by Harry Styles.Oh, and how could I forget K-pop? I only recently got into it, but I'm already completely obsessed. Groups like BTS, BLACKPINK, Stray Kids, and TWICE make such insanely catchy, high-energy bangers. It's like musical candy for my ears! Right now I'm really digging "Butter" by BTS, "How You Like That" by BLACKPINK, "Maniac" by Stray Kids, and "Fancy" by TWICE. I've even started trying to learn the choreography to some of their music videos. It's crazy hard but so fun!At the end of the day though, what really matters is how music makes me feel. Different artists and songs help me work through different emotions depending on my mood. When I'm happy and want to dance around like a lunatic, I'll put on some upbeat pop. If I'm feeling melancholy or heartbroken, I'll listen to some indie sad girl bops and let it all out through an ugly crysesh. And when I just need a boost of confidence or a reminder that things will be okay, you'd better believe I'm queuing up some empowering showtunes or pop punk anthems.I know it's cheesy, but music really is my therapy. It's gotten me through some of my darkest times and amplified some of my happiest moments. I don't know what I'd do without it! Even though I'm a teenager and my musical preferences will probably change a million times before I'm an adult, I know I'll always have a deep, profound love for music in all its forms.
