2. 转译法使表达抽象化
1）交出翻译之前，必须读几遍，看看 有没有修改的地方。
Before handing in your translation, you have to read it over and over again and see if there is anything in it to be corrected or improved.

四、英语抽象名词的汉译
1. 范畴化
英译汉时可以使英语抽象的概念具体化，根 据具体的语境加上 “方法”、“现象”、“局势 ”、“状态”、“情况”、“政策”、“做法”、“习 俗”、“精神”、态度”：“问题”等范畴词，使 译文含义清晰，行文流畅。

• 译：可能影响投资开支的因素并不止这些。 • 析：do not stop here 由“不停留在这里” 转译为“并不止这些”。
Case 2
• Whether you like it or not, globalization is here to stay. We are not going to reverse the trend.
1. 根据词在句中的词类来选择和确定词义 选择某个词的词义，首先要判明这个词在原句中应属哪 一种词类，然后再进一步确定其词义。例如： Like charges repel. Unlike charges attract. 同极相斥。 异极相吸。
但在下面例句中，like又分属其他几个不同词类： 1) He likes mathematics more than physics. 他喜欢数学甚于喜欢物理学。（动词） 2) In the sunbeam passing through the window there are fine grains of dust shining like gold. 在射入窗内的阳光里，细微的尘埃象金子一般在闪闪发光。
• 译：不管你对它的态度如何，经济全球化已成为 我们生活的一部分，这个趋势不可逆转。 • 析：若把它死译为“呆在这里”，不通顺。但引 申为“已成为我们生活的一部分”，把原文的信 息充分地传达出来，且易于读者理解。

• Our products, if maintained properly and regularly, can at least see twenty years’ service.

再如“take （off）这一动词：
1) To take off her boots or to put them on was an agony to her, but it had been an agony for years.

汉语的特点
▪ 汉语为弱势语音系统，但在文字、语音和语法系统上分别由所 谓的“代偿机制”，将缺点转化为优点。大约分为六点：
▪ 1）大量使用虚词。虚词基本上没有固定的词性，甚至功能意 义也不固定，可谓“意随心转”；
▪ 1. 大碗喝茶解渴。 （“飘逸人生”） V1: Drinking tea with a big bowl is a
quick way to quench thirst. V2: To drink at a gulp is a quick way to
quench thirst. * 文化语境差异与概念语义的嬗变
▪ 四字词组是汉语方块字的优势，其他大多数语言没 有这种整齐划一的特点。英译文没有必要保持长短 一致的句式，实际上也做不到。在英译时应灵活变 通，不受原文形式拘束，只要做到与原文“意义相 近，功能相似”。
1．直译：比较完整地保留原词语的比喻形象、 民族色彩和语言风格。
▪ 1. 中国有句老话：“瓜熟蒂落”，“水到渠 成”。
1. 以动词为中心的结构 （V+NP+Prep./ particles）

“了”的英译

1. 动态助词“了”的基本含义是表示动作或状பைடு நூலகம்的完成和进行。英 译时多用过去式、完成时、进行时或完成进行时，少数时候也可 用一般现在时和将来时。如： 晚霞映红了半边天。 Half the sky glowed as the sun went down. 我刚看了几分钟他就进来了。 I had only been reading for a few minutes when he suddenly came in. 2. 可根据上下文语义，把 “了”字所表示的动作译为独立主格结构 或是宾语补足语中的分词短语或动词不定式。如： 老太太顿了一下，轻轻吁了口气，眼圈有点儿红了。 The old lady paused and sighed slightly, her eyes reddening at the edges. 大家忙上原车拿了行李，抢上第二辆车。 Everybody quickly boarded the bus to get his hand luggage, and then scrambled onto the second bus. 2017/1/2 7 Southwest University

“着”的英译

“着”是汉语中的动态助词，紧接动词、形容词之后。动词、 形容词和“着”之间不能加入任何成分。在汉语中有很多 用法，因而在英译汉时，我们需要根据不同的用法进行适 当的处理。 1. 表示动作正在进行。用在动词后，动词前可加副词“正、在、 正在” 。对于这种情况，英译汉时常以为英语的进行时。 如：
