We hold the opinion that the College Entrance Examination should be eliminated. The reasons are as follows. To begin with, it fails to keep with the pace of society nowadays.it proves this well that many graduates with high scores and appreciative qualifications are not competent at all to handle some essential social issues. Next, it has been likely to killed the curiosity and the patience for discovering truth, which is the very virtue a developing country like our nation cannot afford to lose. Students now are busy doing nothing but catering for the so-called principles and regulations.

The College Entrance Examination has been around in China for nearly 20years.It helps many people change their life. But there also exsit a lot ofproblems which make some promised people waste their ability. One of the most serious is that students in different districts have to face different policies when they go to college. Some big cities like Beijing andShanghai have more colleges than other places,so students there may havemore chances to go to a good college. They can go to the same college with amuch lower mark. While students from some poor districts or country is muchmore difficult to go there. They face many difficultties when they are in the highschool and they have to face more troubles when going to colleges. It's unfairfor the students who come from less developed places. If China doesn't stop such things from happening, there will be morepeople who can't do their best to make a contribution.Tha will be a great waste. The Chinese college entrance examination system followed in the process to appear the collegeentrance examination problem of corruption unceasingly and malignant competes not right, immediately “took an exam the education” the development already to make one abhorCollege Entrance ExamSome 6 million students took the nationwide college entrance exams across China and everything progressed in an orderly manner despite the disruption caused by the SARS epidemic.J uly used to be called “Black July” in China because senior high school students had to go through the turmoil of the yearly nationwide college entrance exams. Beginning this year, the exams are held in June to avoid the mid-summer heat. The regular national event is special this year not only because the number of examniees is 850,000 more than last year, but also because the nation is standing vigilant in its battle against SARS. Jiahe County in Hunan Province resumed its right to administer the exams two years after the public cheating event. People are wondering how things will be going there and in China as a whole. The college entrance exams have l ong been regarded as a significant factor that determines a student’sfuture development. It’s even considered one of the turning points in their lives. Students and their parents are equally anxious for the result of the exams and choose the schools that they long to attend. We wish each and everyone of them good luck. The examinees of Jiahe County from Hunan Province publicly cheated while taking the national college entrance examinations in July 2000. Two years later the provincial education department reinstated the county’s right to administer the local college entrance exams. Today, everything is going orderly in the same examination site. In Jiahe No.1 middle school, a special electric monitoring system was installed to supervise every exam room.“E very surveillant is responsible for supervising certain targets and exams. We have a responsibility system for them to keep records of the whole process and then sign their names to show that they are responsible,” said Zhang Zhihai, director of Education Bureau of Jiahe County in Henan Province.Jiahe County drew lessons from the incident of public cheating on college entrance exams and tightened discipline over every kind of exam in schools. Proctors for all exams have to be trained according to the requirements of the entrance exams.“Strict training is carried out for proctors for every kind of exams in accordance with requirements for college entrance exams, whether finals or unified tests. This is so even if I am the proctor. The department in charge of the education bureau is responsible for the training,” said Li Renfei, proctor of Jiahe No.1 Middle School of Hunan Province.“These exams have become for us a process to tighten discipline training for one thing, and a process to systemize and regula rize exam discipline for another,” Z hang Zhihai also said. Before the nationwide college entrance exams this year, Jiahe County held systematic training for proctor candidates. They had to take exams as well before they could be chosen for the job. And each proctor had to sign a responsibility contract with the education department.“We have our special situation in the county. It is small and people are closely related to each other. But we have one rule over exams. No previous notice is allowed. The problem is that the proctors should be able to reject any intercesion. We’ve said that those who dare not do so would lose their job,” said Zhang Zhihai. In Beijing, over 80,000 examinees were registered for this year’s college entrance exams, an increase of 13 percent over last year. The exam sites were also increased from a total 90 in the past to 212 this time due to the rise in the number of examinees as well as the need to control SARS. Special circumstances this year imposed special requirements on the working staff.“The college entrance exams were held under the circumstances of the SARS epidemic. The first thing was how to prevent the disease from spreading. We have taken a series of measures and emergency plans in this regard, so if any thing occurs during the exams it will be properly handled,” said Xian Lianping, deputy director of Beijing Municipal Education Commission.“We feel strongly obligated. In line with the unified layout of the Education Ministry and the overall requirements of the Beijing municipal committee and government, we set our aim to ensure two key points in organizing the entrance exams. One is to ensure the health and safety of all examinees and the working staff, the other is to ensure the seriousness, justice and fairness of the national exams,” said Wang Jian, president of Beijing Institute of Examinations. To ensure the safety, health and punctuality of the examinees, Beijing allocated 280 special buses to pick them up.“For the problem of getting to the exam sites, we enc ouraged the examinees to go on foot, ride bicycles, take private cars or buses if convenient. In addition, we arranged sepcial buses for those who live far away from the exam sites and don’t have other transport means. We opened 150 routes and 280 buses,” Xian Lianping also said. The examinees had to go through a very strict examination process even before they could enter the exam room.“The examination went very well today. It is apparent that the students were well prepared, so that there was not much problem with the health certificate. The students’ body temperatures were all normal. If there was any problem, it would be the fact that some students forgot to fill in their temperature on the health certificate. They should have done that at home this m orning. But some students didn’t fill that in, so we took them to the school clinic to take their temperature for them,” said Wang Minzhu, vice principal of Affiliated School of Renmin University. In case anything out of the ordinary occurred, the Beijing Emergency Center sent out a dozen emergency cars to patrol among all exam sites. And each site was equipped with medical equipment and workers. Some other alternate exam rooms were reserved to handle any emergency at each exam site.“We are proctors of t he alternate exam rooms. The situation is very special so we are here to get ready. The alternate exam rooms will be used in case of emergency, and we will rush to our post in that case,” said Tian Peng, invigilator of Affliated School of Renmin University.A special bus for entrance examinees arrived early at the exam site in the Haidian District. Only one student stepped off the bus, and she is the only examinee here. Those living in quarantine areas or who are under quarantine but have no symptoms took their exams at isolated exam sites. Students were sent there with special buses and special personnel.“Eight seats were arraged in one classroom, while other exam rooms normally hold 20 students. This exam room is well ventilated on both sides with ample light and electric fans so that the examinees won’t feel the heat or get nervous. Examinees can feel relaxed taking the exams here,” said Lian Jie, head of Isolated Exam Site in Haidian District of BeijingIn the isolated exam site in the Haidian District, the security line became a warm passage. These were all made by teachers here.“Everything was well prepared. And the teachers are all very warm-hearted. I don’t feel nervous. It’s all very good,” an examinee said.10 million sit China's college entrance exams amid cheating, flu concernsMore than 10 million Chinese high school students Sunday started their three-day "battle todetermine their fate," as the national college entrance exam is commonly known, amid concernsover flu and test cheating.Although the number of candidates was down 3.8 percent from last year, the first decline in sevenyears, the college entrance examination, or "gaokao", is still the world's largest. The fiercely competitive annual examination is widely regarded as the make-or-break test foruniversity admission by the Chinese.A BATTLE FOR THE FUTUREAcross China, parents prayed outside more than 8,000 test centers.Although this year's admission rate is around 62 percent, 12 times higher than in 1977 when Chinaresumed the college entrance exams after the 10-year-long Cultural Revolution, competition is stillfierce."It was like thousands of people squeezed on to a narrow bridge where only a few could get to theother side20 years ago when I sat the exam," said Zhang Xiuqing, a father waiting for hisdaughter outside a test center in downtown Beijing."Now it's the same because everyone wants to enter prestigious universities like Peking andTsinghua," he said.In a country where a college diploma can help secure a decent job, the annual college entranceexam is considered decisive in determining a student's future career opportunities. However, at least 1 million graduates of the 5.6 million fresh out of university in 2008 failed tofind employment as the job market shrank because of the global economic downturn. They joined graduates from previous years who were still unemployed. But still Zhang believed odds were still better for them than for those with no universityqualifications."Whenever it is, success in the gaokao is a key to social mobility in China," he said.EXAM IN FLU SHADOWAfter a rise in the number of A/H1N1 flu cases, China's education authorities laid out a national prevention plan to ensure the virus did not disrupt the annual exam.Dai Jiagan, director of the National Educational Examination Administration, said Wednesday that the plan covered exam preparation, implementation and emergency response."We have based the plan on our experience of handling SARS in 2003," he said. "The exam must be safe and fair, and the government has the duty to protect its security."Each exam room is disinfected twice a day and every examinee is required to have their body temperature measured before entering the rooms."I guess it will make me a little more nervous because I'm used to having my temperature measured only in hospital," said Li Hui before entering the exam center in Guangzhou. "But I totally understand it."Separate exam rooms have been prepared for the exam takers showing flu and fever symptoms. As of Sunday morning, no such rooms had been used.BEATING THE CHEATSHowever, the biggest fear for examinees and their parents is cheating.China's media have uncovered a series of cheating scams, ranging from identity theft to the use of high-tech communications equipment.Advertisements on the Internet offering purported test answers or devices to help obtain answers can be easily found."It is the most unfair thing in the world for a student who has devoted 12 years to preparing for the exam to be beaten by those using illegal methods," said Li Xiang, a father sitting outside a test center in the eastern Jiangsu Province. The Ministry of Public Security has urged police to be on high alert for any cheating and the Ministry of Education has reiterated its warning to examinees and their parents avoid being tricked by offers of supposed answers or advice from people claiming to know what is on the test."The exams must be absolutely fair," said Dai Jiagan."If my son fails the exam, I want him to fail fair and square," said Li Xiang. "What I can do ispray that my son is not the victim of test cheating."The exam is an important factor for colleges to decide whether a student should be accepted or even if they should get the chance to attend college.College Entrance ExamCubing1.DescribingCollege entrance exams are considered to be the unique approach that the students are admitted by the colleges, and a significant factor that determines a student’s future development.
