Step 1 Lead-in
Show some pictures about family rules and ask students to talk about the rules.
Don’t talk loudly on the phone.
Don’t watch TV late at night.
Don’t eat in bed.
Clean the bedroom on Saturdays.
Don’t get up late on Sundays.
Don’t talk loudly at night.
Step 2 New words
Show some pictures and teach the new words. Ask students to read and correct
students’ pronunciation if necessary.
Read all the words together.
Step 2 Before-reading(2a)
Call attention to : When you are unhappy about sth, who do you like to talk to?
S: I will talk to my best friend.
S: I will talk to my parents.
S: I will talk to my teacher.
Step While-reading(2b)
T: It’s usual for us to be unhappy about something. Here is a girl named Molly, and she is unhappy to because she have many rules in her family. And here is a letter
she wrote to the Dr. Know. Let’s read it!
Ask students to read the letters and underline the rules for Molly. Then check the
rules they’ve find with their partners.
Write down the rules.
Step 3 After-reading(2c)
Read the letter again and complete the sentences with have to /must/can or can’t.
Ask several students to read the rules.
Ask students to read the letter by themselves.
Step 4 Groupwork
Students work in groups to underline the language points they don’t understand.
And try to work them out.
