asked to go.It was all my idea to sign her up(报名)、She’s nearly 12,and I notice that I’m with my child nearly 24 hours a day.Living on a farm without any neighbors, I’ve chosen a life that is quieter than a typical family’s.But rather than longing for space away from me, Sally has become increasingly dependent on my presence. What frightens me most is that she has become a “minime”、She pursues my hobbies, my dreams and my opinions. And that’s why I pulled her to the summer camp: a nearby wilderness camp called Hawk Circle. After we ate, we drove to Hawk Circle.Once there,we got a tour of the grounds and were introduced to Sally’s fellow campers.Sally stood by the group of children, holding my hand, horror in her eyes, trying to work up the courage to join in a game of soccer.“I need you for a few more minutes,” she told me, holding my hand tightly.I pulled away and walked up to one of the camp workers.“Excuse me,” I said loudly.“I’d like to introduce my daughter to you.Maybe you could help her meet a few of these kids.” He came o ver to talk to Sally, and I kissed on her cheek and then my husband and I disappeared before Sally realized we were gone.It was not until I drove calmed down and reminded myself why I chose this path.I want Sally to have a chance to find herself out of my shadow.I don’t want to see only myself in my child.I want to learn who she is.After 12 of physical activity leads to obesity problems. The media influences public opinion and impacts the choices that people make. The media has led to a general opinion that thin is in and fat is out. This makes the overweight feel out of place. They are ready to starve themselves to lose weight, which has led to increasing cases of eating disorders. The media has, in its own way, changed people’s outlook on life.It is the interface(界面) through which millions look at the world outside. The media claims to describe the“today”,but not all types of media show the truth. With the intention of stressing their point or grabbing greater attention from the masses, the media exaggerates(夸大) things to a certain degree. Not everyone is able to filter__out that element. Most believe everything to be real, especially kids and teenagers.Media sources are so many in number and all of them so convincingly make their point that it is hard to distinguish between right and wrong. Thus while a certain amount of exposure to the media is essential for introducing ourselves to the world outside, excessive exposure, uncontrolled a ccess and belief without thought won’t lead us anywhere. They will only make the negative effect of the media more obvious.Media descriptions give rise to stereotypes, affecting your mindset.Advertisements carry subliminal(潜意识的) messages influencing buyers’ psychology, or carry media.D(2017·湖南部分重点中学考前演练)It’s well known to car drivers that red means “stop”, green means “go”,and yellow means “hurry up and m ake that damn light”、Why those colors, though? The answer lies in the fact that the earliest traffic signals were designed for trains, not cars. They were red and green, gaspowered, and more than a little dangerous in the event of a leak.Red is an inherited(继承的) symbol from railroads, which symbolizes danger in many cultures. As red has a longer wavelength than any other color on the visible spectrum(光谱), it can be seen from a greater distance than other colors.Red has meant “stop” since long before cars existed, with train signals’ use of red dating back to the days when mechanical arms lifted and lowered to indicate whether the rail ahead was clear.Green’s wavelength is next to(and shorter than) yellow’s on the visible spectrum, meaning it’s still easier to see than any color other than red and yellow.Back in the early days of railway lights, green meant “caution”, while the “allclear” light was, well, clear or white. It is said that several disastrous collisions happened after an engineer mistook stars in the night for an allclear. Thus, green became “go”, and for a long time, railways used only greenand red to signal trains. From the earliest days of motoring up until the mid1900s,not all stop signs were red—many were yellow, because at night it was all but impossible to see a red stop sign in a poorly lit area.In 1915 the yellow stopsign craze began in Detroit, a city that five years later installed its first electric traffic signal, which happened to include the very first yellow traffic light. But what of those mysterious yellow stop signs? As materials and technologies evolved, the ability to produce highly reflective signs meant that red could resume its natural spot in the sign hierarchy, leaving the stillhighlyvisible yellow to the domain(领域) of “caution”、That’s why school zones and buses, crosswalks, and other important warnings are yellow today.12、What were traffic lights originally intended for?A、Trains.B、Cars.C、Planes.D、Ships.13、What’s the mai n reason for red’s long being used to mean “stop”?A、It can be seen even in dark areas.B、It represents danger in many cultures.C、It has the longest wavelength.D、People prefer red to other colors.14、Which of the following may the author agree with?A、The meaning of red is culturespecific.B、Yellow functioned as stop signs in the 1900s.C、Green’s wavelength is just second to that of red.D、Green’s role in lights has changed over time.15、What does the passage mainly talk about?A、The significance of road traffic signs.B、The history of railroad transportation.C、The symbolic meaning of different colors.D、The origin and development of traffic lights.第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

Unit 2 The Olympic Games李仕才一、阅读理解Want a glance of the future of health care? Take a look at the way the various networks of people about patient care are being connected to one another, and how this new connectivity is being exploited to deliver medicine to the patient—no matter where he or she may be.Online doctors offering advice based on normal symptoms(症状)is the most obvious example. Increasingly, however, remote diagnosis(远程诊断)will be based on real physiological data(生理数据)from the actual patients. A group from the University of Kentucky has shown that by using personal data assistance plus a mobile phone, it is perfectly practical to send a patient’s important signs over the telephone. With this kind of equipment, the cry asking whether there was a doctor in the house could well be a thing of the past.Other medical technology groups are working on applying telemedicine to rural (countryside) care. And at least one team wants to use telemedicine as a tool for disaster needs—especially after earthquakes. On the whole, the trend is towards providing the global access to medical data and experts’ opinions. But there is one problem. Bandwidth(宽带) is the limiting factor for sending complex medical pictures around the world, —CT photos being one of the biggest bandwidth users. Communication satellites may be able to deal with the short-term needs during disasters such as earthquakes or wars. But medicine is looking towards both the second generation Internet and the third generation mobile phones for the future of remote medical service.Doctors have met to discuss computer-based tools for medical diagnosis, training and telemedicine. With the falling price of broadband communications, the new technologies should start a new time when telemedicine and the sharing of medical information, experts’ opinions and diagnosis are common.【文章大意】本文主要讲述人们将来可以在网上看病, 医生可以根据病人的生理数据做出远程诊断。

The Internet plays a big part in human life. We use it for work and entertainment. We can find new recipes on the Internet or advice on staying healthy. We can even use it to learn a new language. We use the Internet to connect with family and friends and stay in touch with issues we care about. The list goes on and on.As far as the Internet being a part of our lives—well, that train has left the station. That expression means there is no going back. If you prefer boating, you can say that ship has sailed. So, there may be no going back to an Internet-free life. But can using the Internet too much be bad for our health? It might be, say researchers.Study results show that teens who spend at least 14 hours a week online were more likely to have high blood pressure.High blood pressure makes your heart and blood vessels work too hard. Over time, this extra strain increases your risk of a heart attack or stroke.High blood pressure can also cause heart and kidney disease. It is also closely linked to some forms of dementia, a brain disease. Dementia is marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and a reduced ability to reason.Let’s introduce something about the study of it.The Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan did the study. It involved 335 young people, from 14 to 17 years old. One hundred thirty-four of the teens were described as “heavy Internet users”. Researchers found that out of these 134 teens, 26 had high blood pressure. The researchers say the study is the first to connect heavy web use and high blood pressure. Other research has connected that heavy Internet use with health problems including anxiety, depression and obesity. The lead researcher of the study is Andrea Cassidy-Bushrow. In a statement shes aid, “Using the Internet is part of our daily life but it shouldn’t consume us. ”For the purpose of the study, she explains, teens considered heavy Internet users were online on “average 25 hours a week. ”Ms Cassidy-Bushrow adds that it is important for teens to take “regular breaks from their computers or smartphones” and to do some “kind of physical activity. ”She also suggests that parents limit their children’s use of the Internet to two hours a day, five days a week.【文章大意】互联网如此有用并且融入我们的生活, 但过度使用它, 会导致多种健康问题。

The Olympic Games李仕才***阅读理解Enjoying a musical performance no longer requires a costly ticket or a trip to a theater. These days, musicians are performing in private homes,at haircutting shops,at airports...even on ferry boats.Musicians like house concerts. At music clubs, they often have to perform over loud conversation or deal with people who have had too much alcohol.People at house concerts are more focused on listening to the music.Just a few hours before the Bombadils started singing at the O’Hair Salon,Lindsay was cutting hair and Tamera was doing facials. Then, they moved chairs and microphones to create a small performance space. The Bombadils made music in the front part of the hair salon, near the hairdryers and makeup tables.“This is our first show at a hair salon,” Sarah Frank of the Bombadils told concertgoers at last week’s performance.Frank said she and band members,Luke Fraser and Kaitlyn Raitz had a great time “interacting” with the audience.Concerts in people’s homes,or small businesses such as O’Hair’s,are becoming more popular, musicians say.“There is a more relaxed atmosphere,”said Domenic Cicala,a musician who opened up his O’Hair Salon to concerts.“People really get to know the artists.”At house concerts, people get time before and after concerts to meet the performers.Often, the hosts or guests will provide food and drink.“People really like listening to music in the living room of a friend,”said Matt Hart, with Aubrey Zoli making up the Local Strangers,a folkrock group based in Seattle. At many such concerts, the musicians do not need microphones.

(2)ASome years ago, writing in my diary used to be a usual activity. I would return from school and spend the expected half hour recording the day's events, feelings, and impressions in my little blue diary. I did not really need to express my emotions by way of words, but I gained a certain satisfaction from seeing my experiences forever recorded on paper. After all, isn't accumulating memories a way of preserving the past? When I was thirteen years old, I went on a long journey on foot in a great valley, well equipped with pens, a diary, and a camera. During the trip, I was busy recording every incident, name and place I came across.I felt proud to be spending my time productively, dutifully preserving for future generations a detailed description of my travels. On my last night there, I wandered out of my tent, diary in hand. The sky was clear and lit by the glare of the moon, and the walls of the valley looked threatening behind their screen of shadows. I automatically took out my pen...At that point, I understood that nothing I wrote could ever match or replace the few seconds I allowed myself to experience the dramatic beauty of the valley. All I remembered of the previous few days were the dull characterizations I had set down in my diary. Now, I only write in my diary when I need to write down a special thought or feeling. I still love to record ideas and quotations that strike me in books, or observations that are particularly meaningful.I take pictures, but not very often only of objects I find really beautiful.I'm no longer blindly satisfied with having something to remember when I grow old. I realize that life will simply pass me by if I stay behind the camera, busy preserving the present so as to live it in the future.I don't want to wake up one day and have nothing but a pile of pictures and notes. Maybe I won't have as many exact representations of people and places; maybe I'll forget certain facts, but at least the experiences will always remain inside me. I don't live to make memories--I just live, and the memories form themselves.1.Before the age of thirteen, the author regarded keeping a diary as a way of ________.A. observing her school routineB. expressing her satisfactionC. impressing her classmatesD. preserving her history2.What caused a change in the author's understanding of keeping a diary?A.A dull night on the journey.B. The beauty of the great valley.C.A striking quotation from a book.D. Her concerns for future generations.3.What does the author put in her diary now?A. Notes and beautiful pictures.B. Special thoughts and feelings.C. Detailed accounts of daily activities.D.
