The teacher can use the English definition or a sentence to ask the students to guess the meaning of the new words. For example: burglary—the crime of entering a building in order to steal. Then ask the students to finish the following five questions individually and check the answers in a whole class setting.(Show the following on the screen. )1 Which word refers to somewhere that you can buy things?2 Which one means that something is against the law?3 Which word describes someone who breaks the law?4 Which one is the crime of stealing from a shop?5 Which one is the crime of stealing from a house?Suggested answers:1 shopping center2 illegal3 criminal4 shoplifting5 burglary2. Four million?Professor: Yes.Interviewer: How many of them break the law in order to pay for their drugs?Professor: We estimate that a hundred thousand people steal in order to pay for their drug addiction.Interviewer: A hundred thousand? !That’s incredible! And what kind of crimes do they commit?Professor: Mainly shoplifting—in other words, stealing from shops—and burglary, stealing from houses.Interviewer: I see.Professor: And there’s another problem. Drug users get into trouble with the police for other reasons as well.Interviewer: What kind of reasons?Professor: Well, you often see drug users in public places—shopping centers, railway stations, for example—and some of them behave so badly that members of the public call the police. Some people feel so nervous when they see drug users that they call the police anyway.Interviewer: This is a really bad problem, isn’t it?Professor: Absolutely, but the good news is that drug users who go to treatment centers usually stop their criminal activities.Interviewer: How many addicts go to treatment centers?Professor: Last year, about 30 000 people went to drug treatment centers.Interviewer: Thirty thousand? That’s amazing.Professor: Yes, there are such a lot of people that there isn’t time to helpthem all.Interviewer: What kind of people are they?Professor: Well, the majority are young people in their twenties. And about 75 percent of the young people are men.Interviewer: And do all these people live in cities?Professor: Oh no. The ratio of drug users in society is the same in cities and in the countryside. But they all have something in common.Interviewer: What’s that?Professor: Drug users are more likely to get into trouble at school.Interviewer: Professor Marion Smith, thank you very much.Professor: Thank you.→Step 3 PronunciationListen to this sentence with different intonation and decide if the speaker is: (Show the following sentence patterns on the screen. )(a)surprised (b)angry (c)happy (d)sadThe music is so loud!Make sure the students know the four feelings. Ways teens can say no to alcohol and drugsMany teens will be asked to try alcohol or drugs by friends or classmates. As parents, the best thing we can do is to give them ways to say no.Teens can use an excuse, such as:1.I can't stay;I have to help my dad with something.2.That stuff makes me sick.Teens can explain to their friends about the dangers of the stuff:1.Haven't you heard about the kid in the news who died from doing that?2.Go ahead if you want to kill yourself—I don't want to.Teens can also just be honest with their friends:1.I'm not into that.2.My mom would kill me if she found out.3.Forget it. There's no way I'm going to do drugs.4.I've got more to do with my life.Once your teens have given their answers, they should be ready to leave. It hardly does any good to argue with someone about alcohol or drugs, and it might make it difficult for your teens to stick with their answer if they stay.Kids should be confident in their answers. By giving a firm(坚定的)“no”,your teens can actually influence their friends in a good way. Teens tend to follow a strong leader among them, and sometimes all it takes is a positive teen that says no to drugs to keep the whole group away from drugs. Read the passage carefully and choose the best answer. What does the underlined word “it” in the text refer to?A. Infinitive of purpose(不定式表目的)1.
I've written it down in order not to forget.
To draw maps properly,a special pen is needed.(误)To draw maps properly, you need a special pen.(正)要正确画出地图,你需要一支特殊的笔。
So as to get there in time, they started early.(误)They started early in order to get there in time.(正)=In order to get there in time, they started early.(正)=They started early so as to get there in time.(正)他们出发得很早,以便及时赶到那里。
He opened the door for the children to come in.

注意:1.信的开头和结尾已经给出,但不计入总词数;
Dear Wang Gang,
I'm sorry to learn that you and some of your classmates have begun to smoke.__________
________________________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________________ Yours,
Li Ming
One possible version:
Dear Wang Gang,
I'm sorry to learn that you and some of your classmates have begun to smoke. I think it is wrong to believe smoking is cool and makes you appear mature. In fact, smoking is not cool but very dangerous.
First, smoking does great harm to health. Scientific research shows that smoking can lead to heart diseases, cancer and other problems. It is reported that about 5 million people all over the world die from diseases related to smoking each year. Second,it is a waste of money to smoke. Some students even steal money to buy cigarettes. Once you are addicted to it,it is difficult to give it up. What's more, smoking can cause fire easily, which may do great damage to your life and your surroundings.
So give up smoking at once. Only in this way can you keep healthy.
Yours,
Li Ming
第一段:提出论点,即smoking is not cool but very dangerous。
▲吸烟危害:do great harm to health;lead to heart diseases;die from;be more harmful to students than to adults;be not only harmful to our health but also to our minds;be bad for;be addicted to;cause all kinds of diseases...
▲建议及看法:shouldn't smoke...;suggest you should do...
▲过渡词汇:in fact;first;second;what's more;what's worse;therefore;as a result;so;for example;such as;in my opinion;in a word...
▲相关词汇:smoker;nonsmoker;heavy smoker;cancer;cigarette;addict;crime;criminal... 4.句型:
▲In fact, smoking is not cool but very dangerous.
▲It is reported that..
▲Once you are addicted to it,it is difficult to give it up.
▲What's more,smoking can cause...
▲You'd better give it up.
▲Don't touch...
1.I think it is wrong to believe smoking is cool and makes you appear mature.
句中it is wrong...
smoking is...
2.It is reported that about 5 million people all over the world die from diseases related to smoking each year.
3.What's more, smoking can cause fire easily, which may do great damage to your life and your
surroundings.
4.Only in this way can you keep healthy.
