II. Teaching aims
(1) To enable the Ss to learn the new phrases on how to make a plan for weekends or holidays.
(2)To develop Ss’ abilit ies of listening and speaking.
III. Difficult points
A, To help the Ss to talk about family plan for weekends or holidays, which is a daily topic but a difficult one since the Ss are short of enough words and useful phrases. B, To help the Ss to learn how to use useful sentence patterns, which are in the form of simple future tense, to describe the plan.
IV.Teaching steps
Step 1. Warm-up and review (by showing pictures on the PPTs)
1. Talking about what the Ss did in the past Mid-Autumn Festival.
Since the Ss just had a happy family holiday in the past Mid-Autumn Festival, it is a right point to start the class with this topic.
In this part, the Ss could review what they have studied and learn some new phrases like Mid-Autumn Festival and moon cake, which gives the Ss a broad view on how to plan a holiday.
By doing so, the Ss would be interested on what they should study next.
2, Leading to the study of already-studied phrases.
Ask the Ss what they have done on the past weekend. Since some Ss didn’t go to watch a movie or go shopping, the class will be led to review such old phrases as: They didn’t go on family outing.
They did a lot of things together.
And the Ss would learn how to plan by studying “family outing”and “Do things together”, “have a walk”, etc.
Step 2. Introducing by showing pictures on PPTs
Suppose a family who didn’t have any plan for the past Mid-Autumn festival but tries to have one for the forthcoming weekend. At this point, except the review of old phrases like “they didn’t...”, T introduces new phrases like “they are going to do sth.”, and its question pattern like “what are they/we going to do sth?”
To do so in a specific way, more new phrases will be taught:
go on an outing together
go to the park
ride bicycles
have a walk
look at the flowers
watch a movie
go shopping
go to the beach
go to the library
go to the restaurant for lunch
Step 3. Practice by playing games
Two games are planned.
Game 1, spider man
Raising hands and back to the Ss, the T leads to read words and phrases. The Ss follow. At some point, the T suddenly stops and turns round. Those who fails to put down their hands will be asked to go to the front of the class and act like a spider man as a minor punishment. The class atmosphere would be stimulated.
Game 2, guess, guess, guess
The class is divided into two groups. The T swiftly shows words and phrases on the screen. The Ss who have a clear look are asked to raise their hands and recite what has been shown. If correctly answered, the team which this Ss belongs to will be graded one point as a bonus. The competition is intensive since the final result is a tie. Teaching Plan of video 2
Step 1: review of what the Ss just learned
Looking at the pictures on PPTs, the Ss, who are divided by two-person-group, are required to have a talk on how to make a plan for holidays. One asks and the other answers.
The new phrases and sentences are mainly:
What/where are we going to..
Shall we...
Step 2: extensive training
Drawing: by drawing out what the Ss plan to do on weekends, the Ss would strengthen what they just learned.
After drawing, the Ss are required to show their pictures to the class and speak out what they have planned just for weekends, using the newly-learned phrases.。
