一单词及词组
1. appear vi. (1)出现, 呈现, 显露 The mountains appeared in the distance.
Sam appeared at the end of the street.
(2)到来 He didn't appear until the class was over.
(3)公开或正式露面,登场(演出/扮演)
He didn't appear lately. She is at least fifty years old, but she always appears as a girl.
(4)显得,好像,似乎 (=seem) Sam appears very old. They appear to have misunderstood me.
She appears to have many friends.
2. stage n. (1)舞台 Life is like a big stage. He stood lonely on (the) stage.
the stage 舞台生涯,演员的职业, She didn't allow her son to choose the stage as a career.
(2) (某事(人)的发展、成长的)时期、阶段 The students are irritable in this stage.
(3) 一段路[旅程]; (公共汽车)一站路; 站;
The first stage of our journey to Xi'an will be the flight from Dalian to Beijing.
It costs 10 pence to travel three stages.
be/ go on the stage. 登台演出;当/成为演员 Sam has wanted to be on the stage from an early age.
3. ‘at + (the) 最高级’,表示 ‘最、至„’ 均为副词词性词组。
at least 最少,至少 at most 最多,至多 at first 最初,首先 at last 最后,终于
at the latest 最晚 at the earliest 最早 I will tell you the truth on Friday at the latest.
4. in spite of /despite prep. 尽管,不顾 后+ n. /ving./ pron.
We had a wonderful holiday in spite of/ despite the bad weather.
although conj. 尽管 后+从句 We had a wonderful holiday although the weather was bad.
in spite of the fact that / despite the fact that =(although) + 从句
She came to the class in spite of the fact that she was ill. = She came to the class although she was ill.
= She came to the class despite the fact that she was ill.
5. as conj. (1) 像,如同 ,常用作关联词后置于so 或 as(adv.)
You are as(adv.) sweet as sugar. Sam is as heavy as an elephant. He isn’t so pretty as her.
(2) 当„时(候)(when/while) Sam slipped on the ground as he came to school.
(3) 因为,由于(because/since) As it rained, he didn't come to school.
(4) “(就)像; 以同样方式/方法”引导方式状语从句. Take lessons as Sam does.(=take lessons like Sam)
prep. 以„的身份,作为:充当角色、身份或功能的:He works as an engineer.
以相似的方式;如同 Take lessons as Sam.
6. dress “连衣裙,女服” Lily is wearing a pink dress for her uncle’s birthday party.
suit “(一套)衣服;男装” Sam’s new suit is very smart.
costume [`kοstju:m] “在特别场合下穿的服装,如演员穿的服装,化装舞会上穿的服装等”
academic costume 学位服
7. grow vi. 动植物的“生长, 成长” Sam grows well. vt. 种植,栽 Please grow a flower here.
grown-up adj. 成熟的, 成年人的 This is a grown-up game/subject.
n. 成年人 Sam isn’t a grown-up.
grown up adj. 思想上、行为上成熟的 What do you want to be when you are grown up?
grow up vi. 长大;成熟 When he grew up, he studied abroad. When the apples grows up, we can eat
them.
