So cool!After the main aquarium loop, we went upstairs to check out some of the other exhibits. The polar area had a huge panel of thick glass where you could watch seals swimming and playing. There was even an underwater viewing area where you could see them zipping around from below the surface. The penguin exhibit was really neat too - it was kept at a chilly temperature and had life-sized models of researchers camping out in the snow. And the penguins themselves were just adorable little guys waddling around and diving into the water.But I think the absolute best part was the outdoor area and whale show. First we explored Explorer's Wharf, which had a big pirate ship you could climb on as well as lots of interactive exhibits about sailing and navigation. Then we went to the huge outdoor dolphin stadium and watched the most amazing show. The trainers would have the dolphins doing all these crazy tricks like jumping through hoops and shooting up out of the water. At one point, a couple trainers were actually riding on the dolphins' backs as they swam around the pool! It was like a real-life version of shows I'd seen on TV about places like SeaWorld.After the dolphin show, we walked over to the huge outdoor tank to see the star attractions - the belugas and killer whales! These massive whales would cruise around the tank, coming upfor breaths of air every few minutes. The belugas were the cutest things ever and had these adorable smiles. But the orcas were definitely the showstoppers with their striking black and white bodies. One orca did a trick where it launched itself horizontally out of the water, showing its whole giant body! I couldn't believe how high and far it flew through the air before crashing back down. Definitely the highlight of the day for me.We finished up by walking through the outdoor explorers trail which had some smaller animal exhibits as well as playgrounds and climbing structures shaped like ships. I grabbed an ice cream and we sat for a while just taking it all in. I was a little sad to leave at the end of the day since there was still so much we didn't get to see or do, like the 4D theater and some of the outdoor performances.
