Upon graduating from the university, every student is faced

with a big, practical problem, that is, to make a choice for his/her

future career. However, the choice varies from person to person.

Some students want to find jobs in joint ventures, desiring to

earn more money. Many are preparing for entering the graduate

school, so they work hard to pass the entrance examination. Also,

there are unambitious ones who are indifferent to the choice of

career and think that any kind of job will satisfy their desire. Only

a small number of students are at a loss what to choose. As to

me, I am determined to further my studies abroad and I am fully

supported by my parents.

I have many reasons for my choice. T he fundamental one is

that in a developed country I can enrich my mind with most

advanced professional knowledge in my speciality. I believe that

the more I learn, the better equipped I will be with modern

knowledge, and the more probably I will succeed in my pursuit.

Some people suggest that I work while studying. Well, that might

be a good idea. However, I would like to see more of the world

when I am young, and I think three or four years' study will

undoubtedly benefit my whole life. In addition, I am sure that I

will certainly have more opportunities to get a satisfactory job in

future with the profound knowledge I learn in graduate school

abroad.

Confidence, in a broad sense, comprises self-trust, self-esteem, courage and in domit ability. This definition, though

somewhat vague and unsubstantial, can be appreciated through

experience because in our lifetime, we are always seeking to

achieve something successful andare always longing to attain a

glorious goal, which can only be reached with the spirit of self-confidence.

As is known, self-confidence is accompanied by will, and that

as a twin, offers hope. Those who do not have a strong will often

think themselves unable to carry out any thorny tasks, while

those who have do not find the tasks unsurmountably difficult.

In fact, when our heart is voidofself confidence, every hope is

gone, every thing on which we put our hands seems to be

veiledin dark. For instance, according to experts, every year in the

entrance examinations of all kinds, fully-prepared candidates

lose nearly 5% to 10% of the full scores, and consequently

meettheir Water loo simply because they underestimate their

own abilities on the one hand, and over estimate possible

difficulties on the other. As a result, their fear to meet new

challengeleads to helpless ness in the examination.

Self-confidence can be regained (if you have ever lost it) by

building faith in your self. True, whatever you do, you will

encounter hardships. But success will come to you if you are

courageous enough to strive for it. If you are not, failure might

be your life-companion.

Behind every great achievement in anyone's life lies

perseverance. We see this in everyhuman endeavour.

Outstanding sportsmen spend all their time practising. Their

endurance isbeyond imagination. The same is true of

businessmen who build up for tunes. What we usuallysee are

their achievements, but once we go behind the scenes we will

find that they have put ina lot of continual steady efforts. We all

have read of great musicians, writers and inventorswho have

created or discover ed breakthroughs in human achievement.

Invariably they havesaid that they owe all their success to

perseverance. As to college students, quite a big number of them

have become successful language lear ners through

perseverance, however, acertain group of them just stop half way

and their previous efforts turn out to be fruitless.

Of all the countless examples the saga of Colonel Saunders

is perhaps one of the mostout standing. The 65-year-old man

from Kentucky had a dream to start a chain of fried chicken

restaur ants all over the world. To realize his dream, he knew that

he needed a restaurant owner to go into partnership with him to

open the first restaurant and to fry chicken according to thesecret

recipe he had. Colonel Saunders had knocked on 1008 doors

before he finally found his partner. It is doubtful whether many
